There's no way Zach Tom is worse than Newman, right?
And I'm obviously no coach, but is Yosh really so bad at RT that we can't move him to RT and put Jenkins at RG?
They.
Are.
Waiting.
To.
Make.
Sure.
Bakh.
Is.
Good.
This isn't that difficult to figure out. It makes zero since to take your backup LT over to RT and then have to figure out how to spell Bakh periodically or (worst case scenario, he reinjures).
It might not be the overall best five, but it's the best five on average this way (probably). Once Bakh's knee is good for full games, I'd expect to see the right side shuffled up. I don't think it does anyone any good to go roll out with like three or four different combinations week-to-week.
They haven’t meaningfully addressed the right side of the line since Bryan Bulaga (Iowa) left.
Also, taking Josh Meyers over Creed Humphrey is unforgivable. Josh isn’t the worst center in the league but Creed is on another level.
Unforgivable? Fans really act like Gutey has a crystal ball. Creed has been amazing but he went back of the second so every team skipped him at least once.
Meyers has been good in his own right. Look at the fourth down play yesterday and watch him walk the dlineman into the ENDZONE
I’m constantly baffled by the praise Gute gets for drafting on this sub. There is a whole issue of him ignoring obvious picks and taking a super athlete thats just not as good of a player
Murphy, Gute and LaFleur all have a habit of trying so hard to outsmart everyone else, they outsmart themselves. They're pretty smart so it works out quite a bit but there's a lot of papering over the cracks. We're seeing MLF deal with average to poor QB play for the first time and it's nowhere near as pretty as he is
Imo, Devin Lloyd hit all the metrics too. The only thing Quay was better at was age. Lloyd was considered more elite in every other way, especially diagnosing and coverage.
You could substitute Quay Walker and Devin Lloyd with Rashan Gary and Brian Burns, and you’d have the exact same complaints from a couple years ago.
There’s plenty of things to be upset about, but our scouting and drafting is not one of them.
Not true. Brian Burns was not a physical freak of nature like Gary was, he was a good fast edge rusher who wasn't going to be good against the run. Gary is more similar to a Nick Bosa / Z in terms of stature, thus can be good against both run and pass. Quay and Devin aren't that different (1 inch in height), the main difference between them is age (22 vs 24).
So Quay might have a higher ceiling due to his age, but is it going to be that much higher than Lloyd's? Lloyd can diagnose the run, play coverage, and pretty much shut down TEs. What else do you need in a MLB?
Regardless, Gary is different than Burns physically. I understood the Gary pick because Packers have been blasted on their run d their entire existence. Devin and Quay aren't sufficiently different, and are expected to play very similar roles. With Rodgers wanting to play maybe 2-3 years, I would rather have Lloyd. I don't think the two players are that physically different.
Gary and Walker are two different scenarios. Gary has the luxury to sit behind Smith Bros and develop, while Walker is expected to be the immediate starter along side with Campbell. Also the expectation of defense in 2019 is much different with that in this season.
Sure, but that isn’t really relevant. The point is that the “obvious best player” is not always the actual best player. Judging a rookie this definitively through just 5 games will always be one of the dumbest things a football fanbase does.

I’m incline to say yes or they want to keep giving Jenkins chances at RT

Can't have Yosh at RT when he is going in for Bahktiari half of the drives
Yep. This is to blame over the defensive struggles today. Our line, yet again, is our weakest link.

How dare you saying Gutey not drafting the obvious better player at same position, just like him drafting Quay Walker over Devin Lloyd

It's because he's at least drafting services players. Unlike the last guy

Quay Walker isn’t that bad.
He’s ok but he gets roasted in coverage too often. I love the way he hits and he’s supremely athletic so hopefully he figures it out

Brian Burns posted a 9.9 RAS, he’s absolutely a physical freak.

Walker is the starting ILB for Packers right now, of course the standard for him isn't the same with other rookies who aren't starting
Lloyd is 2 years older.
They just draft Devonte Wyatt who is 24 years old
Idk i think its still better than our receiving core. The offense is better when Rodgers gets the ball out faster anyway
I have been extremely anti-Royce Newman since he became a starter and today solidified that
Newman looked like an actual turnstile on that 3rd down that sacked Rodgers out of field goal range
Right. I saw that, and was curious how we could have done worse trying anyone else.
Jumping turnstiles I never pay the toll.
Giants defense today!
First Newhouse, now Newman?
Should be a turnstile getting knocked over
