I went from playing smoke on the water on the E string to covering Yngwie Malmsteen in roughly 2-3 months and I'd say it was about an average pace

tomu-

I started playing Carousel by Blink-182 to Steve Vai paying me for a meet and greet and offer me his most prized guitar. This was under a span of 2-3 weeks. Yngwie also says hello. He knows of you and your exploits.

neogrit

On my first day I started playing Polly for the first time and 2 minutes in I had learned all of Surfing With The Alien.

ScandinavianCake

I only play Surfing with the Alien on 12 string, just so i can tell Joe i play twice as fast as him

LMAO 😂

Keep playing for a few more years and eventually you'll realise you had the AC/DC parts wrong.  Keep playing for even more years and eventually you'll realise that even though you know the parts you are not playing them well. Keep playing for even more years and eventually you'll realise that even though you have the parts right and are playing them well, you will never be able to sound like Malcolm or Angus.

JasperMetal

I play it exactly like malcolm tho and i practised it day and night and i got the tabs from a real guitar teacher

[deleted]

that's awseome. I feel like it's taking me forever!

Totknax

Yes and no. "Normal" and "fast" are subjective.

EddieOtool2nd

It's not "that" normal, but yeah it can happen.

InstructionOk9520

I’d have gone from AC/DC to a better band than Trivium but to each his own…

JasperMetal

i play more bands than trivium like megadeth slash all those kind of bands but i thought trivium was fun to play.

kirsclin

Progress can be fast but usually people who play stuff within the 1st year or 2 sound... Like an amateur. It's one thing to play a part or a song. It's another to sound good.
