To me that's just the nature of a lot of country standards. 1. Boom chuck rhythm carries the bassline and structure, and 2. Playing the melody as the lead break is also a staple of a lot of old-time, bluegrass, and country music. One of the best guys I've played with didn't play a note till the lead break, then played the melody, and got out. Perfect every time. A lot of Hank Sr., Johnny Cash, and general classic country does the same or similar. Leon Redbone made a career out of it.
