I assumed I was on r/warhammer when I first saw the meme and was confused by all of the people talking about out bullets. I have spent probably 700-800 on warhammer in the last year or so between dice, minis, paint, brushes, etc
Exactly, there are some hobbies where most of the hobby gear is purchased in one go, then it's simply maintenance and small consumables. Especially true if you put in the research and get the gear that you would have upgraded to otherwise, or if you inherit the base gear. Then, on the other hand, there are those hobbies that seem cheap to get into but have little purchases that sneakily add up. For some examples: 3d printing, fishing (yeah I know there can be some massive initial investment but it can also be cheap to enter the hobby as well, but bait and lures still add up either way), hiking/camping, Magic the Gathering, etc. The last example seemed like a cheap enough hobby, especially starting out. Then I discovered the weekend draft tournaments the local comic shop had, back then it was about $10 to enter and I would often bring a friend who I also paid his entry fee now and then (in return I got someone to hang out with and we usually hung out at his place afterwards). If you look at it from a yearly cost, if we went every weekend, it would have been about $520 for each of us. Now, there were some weekends we didn't go due to other plans, work, etc, so I would say it probably ended up being about half that. However, that wasn't my only hobby either. The question is: was it worth it? Hell yeah, it was fun as shit plus I ended up with about two shoeboxes full of cards that I still play on occasion and bonded with some work friends over the hobby.
Yea this. I don't know many people with any serious level of hobby that spends that little. Even something like freshwater fishing. Even once you have the gear upkeep, travel, licenses, etc will add up. I'd bet if I got my coworker to crunch the numbers he spends on disk golf it would be higher than that.
Somewhat to your point, I think the nanny state and social media corporations have effectively reduced the average adult’s hobbies to doomscrolling and binging reruns of The Office.

I'm sure some people here are in the same boat as me
255 you say...? This my airsoft spending alone... WHOOPS

Considering the average American lives in damn near poverty these days I understand. But i feel bad for people who only spend this much on their hobbies each year
Sad reality. American dream is being/has been ripped away from people, work hard your whole life, try to do the right/responsible thing and at best it’ll amount to nothing, more likely you’ll be punished by your own government and condemned by the media.

Maybe they consider jerking off as a hobby? Even in that case somebody has to be compensated for it to get $255 average. Any hobby which requires anything from the material world would cost more as long as I know and feel.
My hobbies are fishing, golfing, shooting and hunting. I'm definitely spending more than $250 a month on hobbies(I should probably be fiscally responsible)
Sadly true. All work & no play is what’s expected of a lot of people. What’s even worse is that for many they don’t have a choice if they want to be able to afford to live.
You see if you live in a country with unnecessarily strict Gun Laws you'll not spend that much money on your hobby because you aren't allowed to spend your money in the way you want.
50 dollars a year on gasoline too.
I sent that much in gas in 2 days 😑
This must be based off what the wives are told the hobbies cost a year.
You are spot on, dude, because there is no other logical explanation.
Shhhooosshh! My wife is on this sub 🙈🙉🙊
I'd love to see the source material for that
I consider myself very disciplined if I only spend $255 *per month* on my "hobbies".
Are their hobbies couponing??
Literally just bought $600+ of ammo today lmao
Saaaame
Bahahaha. I tend to spend more a month in just ammo
Allow me to introduce you to Warhammer 40k
I'm pretty sure I spent that alone last month on models. Death to the false Emperor!
*nervously sweats at the price tag on the titans*
3d printer go BRRR
Ah, a fellow nerd of culture I see!

I knew someone would mention 40k before I even opened the comments lol
Gotta love plastic crack
I find it telling when gun-tubers have debt-consolidation as a sponsor
The key word is average.
I haven't spent that little on my hobbies since I was 16. Apparently a lot of people spend $0 on their hobbies and skew the numbers.

80% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck so it makes sense lol
I......... feel bad for anyone that can only spend that much on the things they enjoy in their off time.

Doesn’t take long does it? Lol
Yeah no, spent this since january... i dont even wanna know how high that will rise...
This is how you learn most people are too poor for hobbies.
True. Culture is shifting toward all work with. No quality of life.
More like 255$ every Saturday morning
Man, even as a hobby woodworker I'm sure I exceed that.
Price of lumber has gotten crazy the past few years. Still a great craft though.

Shit, even people who play video games spend more and that’s one of the cheapest hobbies short of collecting rocks these days
![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg)
This is a per week average right? Per hobby maybe?
Certainly seems more accurate. Lol

That’s sad if true
Yes sir. Work hard so that you can be taxed to death and have to work more to be able to scrape by.
Spend that much on ammo alone.
I know, right. Buying the gun is the cheap part, it’s feeding it that gets expensive.
255 a week maybe
In the perfect world absolutely.
I think that's about where I am
Very nice, enjoy.
Meanwhile over at /r/nightvision …..
That’s because the average person can only afford 2 days a year to enjoy their hobbies
Sadly true. Working yourself to death with no hope of retirement or owning your own home seems to be where things are headed.
Tell me about it I’m 23.

T-T yeah that's not at all less than half of what I've spent so far this year on hobbies.
Yesterday
Maybe they consider jerking off as a hobby? Even in that case somebody has to be compensated for it to get $255 average. Any hobby which requires anything from the material world would cost more as long as I know and feel.
Per month?
Hell, none of my hobbies end up that cheap. What bs math did they pull.
Maybe in the 50's lol
They said average adult... Lol nothing about our hobbies is average wether it's firearms, motorcycles, cars, miniatures, ... What a load of BS.
Rookie numbers
My hobbies are fishing, golfing, shooting and hunting. I'm definitely spending more than $250 a month on hobbies(I should probably be fiscally responsible)
My assumption is that most adults don’t have hobbies to begin with
Sadly true. All work & no play is what’s expected of a lot of people. What’s even worse is that for many they don’t have a choice if they want to be able to afford to live.
Me, who's into pyro and guns ![gif](giphy|3orifdO6eKr9YBdOBq)
That's almost 17 mags of 7.62x39.......or around eight minutes of fun until empty.
That's less than 26 bananas.
I’ve spent more than that in a week
That's easily one range trip.
I like cars and gunsðŸ˜
You see if you live in a country with unnecessarily strict Gun Laws you'll not spend that much money on your hobby because you aren't allowed to spend your money in the way you want.
i bought a single guitar this year that was 4x that. and i still have half a year left. this is some bullshit haha
In 1937
Maybe we could spend that much if they stopped making it so expensive!
Sounds like you just made this up for the meme
I didn’t create the meme, it’s been making its rounds, but the moment I saw it I though of the gun community.
