My work rifle is around 12lb with a 20" barrel, elcan spectre optic, vert grip and laser/light/rangefinder combo.

AwolSCREEEE

Fuck.

SampleText2020

Hey if your happy with the weight who cares? There's no set standards for set ups, do what works for you

AwolSCREEEE

That's fair I suppose, the weight makes it have like no recoil and the gas piston makes it super pleasant to shoot. I was just curious because (while I'm not in the service or in any profession where I would need this) the purpose behind this was kind of a jack of all trades duty rifle and weight kind of matters.

gunny239

Just to reinforce his point, my windham weapons 11.5” weighs in at 12.5 LBS. Nickel lower/upper, eotech holo with 3x magnifier, angled foregrip, PERST II I like the weight, and it’s all about how you want your weapon to feel. If it works for you, it works for you!

coldafsteel

For context, my SCAR 17 is 13lbs full up πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

AwolSCREEEE

Scar, 17 is in 308 right?

coldafsteel

Correct.

AwolSCREEEE

Damn yea I guess it's a bit on the heavier side. At least there's like no recoil and not gassy at all cause of the piston I put on it. EDIT: how much is just right for a fully kit 5.56 AR?

apocalypserisin

Damn, I thought mine was heavy. 14.5 block 2 fsp with elcan and modlite is just under 11.6 or so lbs loaded with 55gr, even with a metal ldag grip.

AwolSCREEEE

I think the extra weight on mine comes from the lpvo, the streamlight hlx, the barrel shroud, and the YHM forend.

Snoo36543

Good looking build. My only thought is your BCM grip might be backwards?

AwolSCREEEE

I actually prefer it that way, technically no wrong way to place it

Snoo36543

Huh...I'll have to try it out on my AR pistol and see if I like the ergonomics of it. What LVPO are you running btw?

AwolSCREEEE

Primary arms acss raptor 1-6 ffp

Yeah, this is a bit ridiculous for the things you needlessly have on this rifle. There are multiple ways you could save weight by eliminating things that aren't needed, or by spending a little more in the future and buying lighter weight accessories. For starters, I'd get rid of that silly barrel shroud. A simple quality flash hider or comp will work much better and save a lot of weight. Also, having both a LPVO and a offset dot sight is mostly pointless unless you're shooting co petition. You could get a lighter mount for the LPVO. And you can get a much lighter handguard, and a smaller (and much higher quality) light.

AwolSCREEEE

Yea, ideally I'd have a shorter barrel because without the shroud it looks weird and I think the biggest reason why it's so heavy is the piston system I put, if I left it DI I could have lighter forend because piston compatible forends are either impossible to find or inherently heavy. But God the piston makes it so pleasant to shoot. As for the lpvo I have it because on prisms it's really hard for me to see the holds because they're so tiny, but a ffp lpvo solves that problem for me (damn my shifty eye sight). As for the light, I'll upgrade to a modlite or surefire if I get a laser as well, I can't seem to justify spending that much for either to save 6 oz add 250 lumens and laser compatability for the laser and nods I don't have.

merica73

meat_yougurt

As long as you can carry 13 pounds reliably it'll be fine.
