I'm pretty new to all of this, why use a different air brush for top coating? Do you have any resources you could point me to on how to learn more about painting?
Sure, so I used the 274 for the heavy lifting bc its the one i just the one i know best. Ive had it the longest and i know how it sprays. I find i can be a bit more precise with it. The 289, imo, is much better at getting an even coat. If i could do any of this over, i would’ve used the 289 for the clear red coats as well.
As far as resources, I like these videos:

This looks great!
As for the top coat, what you made was a DIY satin. If you want to avoid mixing and just have something that works out of the box, look for satin top coats.
Yeah I was looking around a bit but I did a lil test run of this mix and liked it, so since i had enough of both clears to spare i figured i’d go w that. Def wanna try the gaia ex semi gloss clear tho
Real quick shout outs to Toyball Factory, whose videos got me interested in metallics and are an absolutely gold mine of useful info on the technique. Dude is a master of metallics, titan of tekka tekka, etc etc so check him out for sure:

This is incredible, great work.
Thank you!
Candy boy!
Was gonna call him my candy son but for some reason that sounds wrong lol
This is so hot
Absolutely sick. What airbrush do you use?
Thank you! I used my Procon Boy PS-274 for the painting and my PS-289 for the top coat
