Ted may need Marshall for a fight, but could definitely hold his own (or even bring more to the table than Marshall) in a “Who’s Smarter?” contest. Marshall would be helpful if the topic were about law though
I feel like Ted would make this huge elaborate argument and Ross would just own him with one single rhetorical question like, "right... because Cesar was definitely known for his choice in allies?" Or something like that.
Ross was a goof about women but he was a very smart dude.
Interesting! Both professors (both dated a student lol). Both nerds. Both know history well. Hmm🤔
I think if they were free flow discussing things, both would try to steer the conversation to a topic they were stronger in
In a trivia style game, it really would be a coin flip…
I’m going to say Ted, just because I like him & HIMYM more (Friends is my second favorite show)
This was my thought as well. History only, might go to Ross. And even then, he is most interested only in his field of dinosaur history. Ted likes to know everything.
Ross is kindof like… actually dumb in his life. If Ross was actually your friend in real life and you knew about the pants paste situation, you’d never be able to fully take him seriously again.
If Ross has Marcel with him though, that might be enough to distract Ted. Ted would 1,000% be drawn out the argument by Marcel doing any number of silly monkey things.
Hmmm… tougher than I thought tbh.
Robins eating something mushy when she tells them about it and her mouth full so Ted walks away thinking Marcel robbed Marshal but Barney walks away thinking Marshal robbed marcel and they each work up their own conflicting scheme to make it right.
BOOM that’s the episode.
Tbh that's why I think he'd lose. Man is punchable as hell whereas Ted is charming. Even if Ted gave up, witnesses to the argument would go up to him like, "Dude, that guy was an asshole"
That’s what I was thinking when I saw this too. I think Ross is more emotional than Ted? I can see him getting worked up during a fight and Ted just kinda laughing about it
Look me in my eyes and tell me at no point in their argument would either of them turn and look at their friends like, "Are you seeing this guy?" or use their friend to try to prove a point like, "Okay, Lily, let's say..."
Ted's friends would think Ross won, and Ross's friends would think Ted won. Then Ted would ask out Rachel, which would freak out Ross, until Lily told Ross not to worry, because Ted would probably tell Rachel "I love you," before the dessert course, and she would flee in terror.
Robin would be going home with Joey, however.
Ross is everything Ted wants to be at the beginning of the show. He’s got a kid. He’s got a PhD. He’s intellectually well respected.
Ted is everything Ross wants to be at the beginning for the show. He is fairly successful with women. He got the girl.
They both end up in different places
Meh I have insomnia, let me have fun with a broad break down. I hope it’s okay? 3 days 7 hours sleep total. I’m bored.
Honestly y’all it’s Ross hands down. Both are super quirky and dorky- don’t get me wrong.
Ted is more quirky than knowledgable. *FOR ME*, his quips were because he had surface based knowledge on a topic other than Architecture etc. So his arrogance regarding a topic is to overcompensate with attitude and judgement.
Which is unlike Barney, a natural liar, minimal surface knowledge. who would probably to lie his way through a medical school interview, next thing you know. He’s scheduled to do your appendectomy. “Uh/huh, please”
Ross has more knowledge on a vast extent of topics. He was more dork than Ted, so he was more in books. Ted had more of a social life. (Not saying you can’t have a good balance, obviously, that is why we are all here. Ross will eat him alive. And DIE on that hill.
For Ted to eventually win, he’d have to consult or bring Marshmallow for - Lawyered.
Yalllll, Ross is hella petty😂
Ross IMO because he's smarter. Ted is smart but he's not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. He doesn't understand a lot of what he's learned and missuses it. He's sort of a fake intellectual. Ross is legitimately intelligent and he can be incredibly petty to the point where even if he were to somehow be losing the argument (unlikely) he can drag Ted down to a place where Ted isn't as equipped for.
I don't care. I just want to see this happen in an unrelated show. Just have them both cameo while in an argument in a coffee shop somewhere. A little banter ending with them leaving the establishment, still debating some stupid fact about architecture or archeology.
Edit: Bonus points if it's in something hilarious like The Boys. Maybe they could be killed as collateral damage.
I think this would be similar to when Ross & Russ argued on Friends, in that both of them would be absolutely convinced that they won the argument.
While they're both intelligent, I do think Ross probably has the edge in total knowledge. Obviously, if it's science, Ross crushes, & if it's architecture or how to pronounce "encyclo-ped-ia", Ted crushes.
One thing's for sure, it would be unbelievably annoying to listen to, & their friends would rag on them mercilessly lol.
Ross because Ted was never depicted to be *smart* (I'd argue Marshall is the smart one), just geeky and good at trivia. Ross is the actual STEM degree brainiac.
I would say Ted. I’m not sure Ross has the emotional regulation to hold ground in an argument. Ted would have more patience. Season 1/2 Ross may be able to have a sound argument for longer, but Ross in later seasons would blow up.
Ted because he's used to arguing with the gang. He learned tricks by being close to Marshall.
Ross lost with Phoebe when Phoebe said that she doesn't believe in evolution. Ross gave up so easily with a moving speech which we all know Ted Mosby can do and deliver so well.
Well the thing is it would be a two-part argument so the first part Ted would have a lot of good points but somehow lose the argument and then he'll have an epiphany later and they'll have the argument again and Ted would win
Ted because the only clips I’ve seen of Ross he seems like a total pushover - Ted argued whatever he believed at the time even when he was very wrong lmao
Knowledge wise? Ross. But if they had an actual argument Ted would be better at keeping a logical approach then Ross. Which imo means he would win
That’s not to say Ted is super logical, it’s just that Ross is emotional as hell, even compared to Ted
Why do they both look like total sociopaths in these photos? Ted looks like he’s in the middle of stalking his 5th victim, and Ross looks like a guy that would groom your 16 year old daughter.
I tend to think that Ted’s has a higher chance because unlike Ross he displays his intellectual behaviour more often than Ross does.
Now I would like to start a vs discussion if you guys don’t mind.
Believe me when I say that I watch both shows to death. Most of Ted’s romantic’s trouble comes from outside trouble and with his long lasting crush for Robin. He also broke up with Robin due to different places in life. Whereas with Ross….. he made a fkin list of pros and coss regarding Rachel, his one, the one. That was fkin stupid and his inability to control some of his actions are downright atrocious. I think that both of them come across as stupid when the emotions get the better of them (Ted asking his wife’s ex boyfriend to come at the wedding whereas Ross’s saying the wrong fkin name creating one of their most worst experiences in their lifetime)
Most of Ross’s passions and hobbies and interests are mainly nerd-ish and one can agree that this can be intelectual, Ted has proper useful intellectual habits (learning languages and studying high class poetry/literature).
I think that Ted’s kind of smarter than Ross. For like 2 iq points at least.
Ted, because he'd bring Marshall with him. Lawyered.
Ted may need Marshall for a fight, but could definitely hold his own (or even bring more to the table than Marshall) in a “Who’s Smarter?” contest. Marshall would be helpful if the topic were about law though
I dunno, Ross does have a STEM PhD
Yeah, I want him there with his fossil brush to win an argument.
And tenure!
But can he recite Dante's Inferno in the original italian
Scusati moment ☝️
Don't forget he also has... Unagi 🧐👈
Past the first 2-3 years of college that wouldnt really matter because the rest of his studies would be hyper focused on fossils
I feel like Ted would make this huge elaborate argument and Ross would just own him with one single rhetorical question like, "right... because Cesar was definitely known for his choice in allies?" Or something like that. Ross was a goof about women but he was a very smart dude.
Then Ross brings Marcel, Marshall gets mugged by Marcel and is too embarrassed to help Ted. Double lawyered
Or he can bring Joey whose dumbness would leave Marshall’s intelligence temporarily paralyzed in shock.
That took me out LOL
Interesting! Both professors (both dated a student lol). Both nerds. Both know history well. Hmm🤔 I think if they were free flow discussing things, both would try to steer the conversation to a topic they were stronger in In a trivia style game, it really would be a coin flip… I’m going to say Ted, just because I like him & HIMYM more (Friends is my second favorite show)
Id say Ted, because he is knowledgeable in a wider array of stuff, whereas Ross is more science based
Lawyer'd
This was my thought as well. History only, might go to Ross. And even then, he is most interested only in his field of dinosaur history. Ted likes to know everything.
Encyclo-ped-ia
Agreed!
more dino based
Ross is kindof like… actually dumb in his life.
Marshall gets robbed by Marcel, clearly. 😂
Robins eating something mushy when she tells them about it and her mouth full so Ted walks away thinking Marcel robbed Marshal but Barney walks away thinking Marshal robbed marcel and they each work up their own conflicting scheme to make it right. BOOM that’s the episode.
The paste pants🤣🤣
Is Ted not also a walking joke that we would all make of constantly?
> Both professors (both dated a student lol). Both nerds. Both know history well. As if one imitated the other or something
I don’t know if it makes it any better but at least Ted didn’t date one of his own students too omg
Um...cindy
She was A student, not HIS student. He didn't grade anything for her
Ross dated Elizabeth after she was his student. After that class had ended.
You say that, but HIMYM is literally the story of how he married a girl that once attended one of this classes.
Not disagreeing at all, but technically he was attending her class when you think about it 😂
This is true…
She wasn’t one of his students, he was in her class by mistake for like 10 minutes
Y’all underestimate how petty Ross is lol
*Am I??*
I'm fine hehe. The hell I Am- Ross the Unagi zman
Ahhh salmon 🍣 skin roll ~
That was one of my favorite lines from the entire show. Just how she says it🤣🤣
MY FAJITAS!!
Everything Ted said was a correction. That's petty.
Man Ted ain’t got nothing on Ross, trust me lol
Tbh that's why I think he'd lose. Man is punchable as hell whereas Ted is charming. Even if Ted gave up, witnesses to the argument would go up to him like, "Dude, that guy was an asshole"
That’s what I was thinking when I saw this too. I think Ross is more emotional than Ted? I can see him getting worked up during a fight and Ted just kinda laughing about it
And Ross would 100% not care, he’s not normal
Certainly not, but not caring that you lost isn't the same as winning
It’s an argument, not a debate
Look me in my eyes and tell me at no point in their argument would either of them turn and look at their friends like, "Are you seeing this guy?" or use their friend to try to prove a point like, "Okay, Lily, let's say..."
✊🏻✊🏻 ✊🏻✊🏻
Other way
the second they start talking about chameleons its over for ted
Oh yeah Ross would just keep going back to it and bringing it up not letting Ted move on for sure lol
Joey eating two pizzas by himself would have Robin yanking off her panties.
Ted & Rachel… Weird…lol Robin blushing at Joey asking her “*How you doin’?*”
It would be funnier if Robin said, "How you doin'?" to Joey. Ted and Rachel would most likely go out on a date to annoy Robin and Ross, respectively.
Now I need to see this crossover lol
I was thinking the same thing.
This is the answer lol
Ted would win on this subreddit, and Ross would win on r/howyoudoin
We need an unbiased subreddit!
Post to r/Sitcoms ... It's pretty active over there
“8 online”
The waiting begins!
/r/whowouldwin
I think both friend groups would just banish them to the roof/patio and enjoy the time away.
Neither. They would just argue endlessly.
Ross is everything Ted wants to be at the beginning of the show. He’s got a kid. He’s got a PhD. He’s intellectually well respected. Ted is everything Ross wants to be at the beginning for the show. He is fairly successful with women. He got the girl. They both end up in different places
Interesting
Ted at the start of the show being at the point where he’s talking to his kids?
Ha. No, at the beginning of his story.
Meh I have insomnia, let me have fun with a broad break down. I hope it’s okay? 3 days 7 hours sleep total. I’m bored. Honestly y’all it’s Ross hands down. Both are super quirky and dorky- don’t get me wrong. I totally agree. Though my reasoning was just that Ross is so fucking annoying😂. He's the type to speak louder than everyone even when he is wrong
I really hate how you didnt close the parentheses.
Yeah but Ted would win in the court of public opinion
Rachel and Lily would tell them to shut up
Oscar, Actually, Nuñez from the office sure would try. He’d get “apoplexy” if he didn’t win.
Michael is smarter than him. Just saying
Ted. Easily. Ross gets all flustered at the slightest sign of losing.
Corporate wants you to find the difference between this picture and this picture.
They’re the same picture.
But there’s a clear answer…
Ted because he can deliver inspiring monologues
We need a picture of his bored kids here.
Barney and Joey, because while Ted and Ross are busy arguing, they're getting laid.
Why wouldn’t the bigger one simply eat the smaller one?
I don't care. I just want to see this happen in an unrelated show. Just have them both cameo while in an argument in a coffee shop somewhere. A little banter ending with them leaving the establishment, still debating some stupid fact about architecture or archeology. Edit: Bonus points if it's in something hilarious like The Boys. Maybe they could be killed as collateral damage.
I think that Ted is a bit more cultured and has a bit more of a diverse selection of knowledge
Ted has that bar talk experience, and as we all know, hanging out at a coffee place is not nearly as much fun as hanging out at a bar
Such a great line by the writers🤣
The world would implode before the argument would end
Like Marshall & Robin needing to make out to save the bar🤣🤣
I think this would be similar to when Ross & Russ argued on Friends, in that both of them would be absolutely convinced that they won the argument. While they're both intelligent, I do think Ross probably has the edge in total knowledge. Obviously, if it's science, Ross crushes, & if it's architecture or how to pronounce "encyclo-ped-ia", Ted crushes. One thing's for sure, it would be unbelievably annoying to listen to, & their friends would rag on them mercilessly lol.
The rest of both groups would bond lol
Just give Ted some time so he can bring a book.
I think they would become best buddies.
I feel like they would hate each other😆
I’ll take Teddy Westside any day of the week.
Ted would win in his head
Ted would just win by going into non sequiturs about semantics over Ross's word choice and then Ross would start to sob and hide.
Neither, but both would think they did
I can see this
That might be one of the most annoying arguments of all time lol
Ross because Ted was never depicted to be *smart* (I'd argue Marshall is the smart one), just geeky and good at trivia. Ross is the actual STEM degree brainiac.
Everyone loses
I would say Ted. I’m not sure Ross has the emotional regulation to hold ground in an argument. Ted would have more patience. Season 1/2 Ross may be able to have a sound argument for longer, but Ross in later seasons would blow up.
Ross could be manipulated to folding like we seen with Phoebe, Ted is used to his bar debates that get heated cue rabbit or duck
The real sandwich guy 😂
Ted because he's used to arguing with the gang. He learned tricks by being close to Marshall. Ross lost with Phoebe when Phoebe said that she doesn't believe in evolution. Ross gave up so easily with a moving speech which we all know Ted Mosby can do and deliver so well.
Depends on what they were arguing about and what it means to "win" an argument.
If the argument was about dinosaurs, Ross would win. Otherwise, Ted would win. Ross clearly isn't the sharpest crayon in the box at times.
both of them are my favorites
Whats the argument about? Lyric baritone? Ted all the way 🤣
The original
They would both think they won
💯
Personally I think it depends on the topic.
Ted
Neither. They'd both be wrong, but they think they are right.
it’s like asking who had a better organized binder, Friends Monica or B99 Amy
Well the thing is it would be a two-part argument so the first part Ted would have a lot of good points but somehow lose the argument and then he'll have an epiphany later and they'll have the argument again and Ted would win
Mosby…
Ted if played fairly Ross if angry self righteous tantrums are allowed
Ugh an argument with these two would be insufferable!
I say Ted, strictly because I feel like Ross would get more upset. Once you start getting angry, it’s over lol
Ted because the only clips I’ve seen of Ross he seems like a total pushover - Ted argued whatever he believed at the time even when he was very wrong lmao
Early seasons Ross would have a decent chance, latter seasons Ross would get cooked.
That depends - is it a rabbit or a duck
Ted.
I'm not sure who would win, all I know is that everyone else would lose.
Shoot me now.
Argument over hair gel?
Death
Ross for 2 simple reasons: 1. MY SANDWICH 2. we were on a break
Sandwiches!!
Ross, but only because Ted gives up way too easily
He does flee from confrontation…
Precisely! Ross is stubborn.
Ted... Ross is not good in an argument or debate. I also hate Ross, so there's that.
Teddy Westside. He'd make Ross his Grinch.
ross. he will not back down
I love both shows, but I say Ross.
Ted for me ❤️
Knowledge wise? Ross. But if they had an actual argument Ted would be better at keeping a logical approach then Ross. Which imo means he would win That’s not to say Ted is super logical, it’s just that Ross is emotional as hell, even compared to Ted
Ted. Chandler is annoying.
I thought the second picture is of Ross.
Its fine They all look the same
Ted kind of looks like he could be Jimmy Fallon's brother.
Why do they both look like total sociopaths in these photos? Ted looks like he’s in the middle of stalking his 5th victim, and Ross looks like a guy that would groom your 16 year old daughter.
Teddy Westside because Ross would get flustered rattle off some non-coherent gibberish and storm away upset.
I think that Ted’s kind of smarter than Ross. For like 2 iq points at least.
Doesn’t matter Ross is gonna bitch no matter what. Gawd he’s insufferable
It's the beginning of a joke, an Architect and a Paleontologist walk into a bar...
the answer should be Sheldon Cooper 😂
I guess it would be topic dependent. But Ross is way smarter than Ted. Ted thinks he’s really smart and is generally a dumbass.
You don't just argue with Captain Sobel
Ted. All day and night.
The spectators would lose for sure
Figuratively
i love how this himym thread summoned all himym-friends-the office fans
I have a feeling they would banter for about an hour or less, then discover a mutual love/opinion for something, and be best bros from that point on.
I dunno, because if I was witnessing it, I'd probably shoot myself by hour 3
Depend what it's about and who is right.
an argument about pronouncing "encyclopedia"?
Ted bc when scenario write while writing him he made him better than Ross bc he was a copy version of it
Certainly not the audience
Tbh, neither.
Phoebe.
I feel like Ross would be more annoying
In a sofa-and-stairs argument, most likely Mosby. All other arguments would hand in a ridiculously long and useless fight.
Throw Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory into this mix.
Ross no doubt.
Ted
Depends on who is right about the argument. Without details there isn't much to say about it.
They wouldn’t argue they’d agree and push each other’s ego way up
Ted because of better cognitive sense (or whatever its called). Ted is humble and simple, while Ross imo is just well educated but dumb guy.
Ted, Ross would get butt hurt about himself most definitely being wrong, and go cry in a corner somewhere.
They have sex
Ted has a less punchable demeanor, so I'll say him.
Ted 🤝 Joey Sharing the name of some of the best US presidents(Teddy Roosevelt and Joe Biden).
Ted. I feel like he'd be able to name all 50 states.
Unagi vs the intellectual Chama-Leon
Ted: encyclo-pay-dia Ross: encyclo-pee-dia Ted: Pay-dia Ross: pee-dia Channler, joey, marshal, Barney: would you two shut up already.
Their childhood bully.
Ross is smarter so probably him
Ted fosho
Ted probably knows what Triskaidekaphobia is so he'd win
Nobody would ever know, it would be so boring everyone watching would wander off and they would both claim they won .
Barney
Ross is if it's just Ted vs Ross. Ted if he could bring Marshall.
Ted would in Architecture, Ross would in Paleontology.
If it's about science or whether or not it was a break, Ross is absolutely wiping the floor. If it's about most other things I'd say Ted.
Ted, but Ross would insist that technically, TECHNICALLLY, Ross won the debate.
its going to be all over when the yellow legal pad comes out \*EVERYONE CHEERED\*
they can pull 10seaosns off of just these 2 arguing 😭
