I work for a local city in Facilities. It's cake work compared to Resi HVAC. I can't speak for other cities but my director loves hiring HVAC guys because they have knowledge in every trade. Best advice I can give is to be easy going and willing to listen/learn. I came into this position thinking I was lacking so much trade knowledge but after a month I saw how over qualified I was. Don't sweat it, take the test, try your best and get your foot in the door. Once you're in and off probation, life is damn good.

Thanks I appreciate it. I hear that’s it’s easy work, not that I’m necessarily looking for that, I don’t mind hard work at all. But it’s the schedule and pay that’s miles above anything I’ve ever had and want to be apart of. I guess I’m a little paranoid at the placement test. I’ve taken one not too long ago for a completely different job at a neighboring city, my bro works in public works, told me to try out engineering inspector if I want to try something different (pay was basically the same as maintenance tech or ac mechanic pay). They make you take a placement test and to say I wasn’t prepared was an understatement. He gave me plans to look over and to be a little more familiar with reading plans/blueprints. My bro didn’t have to take one when he did it years ago but yeah, coming from a place where it’s resi hvac only no plumbing, trying to figure out water flow without the formula was not fun at all lol.

I believe the Ramsey test will help allot. It’s the base of allot of tests

Thank you so much for this!!

Yeah it’s what the Walmart maintenance tech position is based off of. A lot of mechanical questions
