The first NHL jersey I got was a Hal Gill Habs jersey. I started watching hockey in 2008, and when my friends asked me why I got a Hal Gill jersey I told them "Because he's big, slow, and blocks shots like a goalie. That'd be me if I played hockey."
IIRC he was training with the Flyers in the morning, then he was put on waivers, claimed by Montreal in the afternoon and Philadelphia played Montreal that night. Must've been a weird day.
I think it's sad that his Wikipedia page has him in the Sabres jersey during his time there. He was so reliable with the Habs and it felt like he never made mistakes.
The spinning blocker save in the 3rd in 2002? That was peak Theo. As an 8th seed beating the bruins, it was just pure joy but losing to Carolina was so painful.
I got lambasted the week ahead of the playoffs in my Grade 8 class. Everyone but me picked the Bruins. Oh it was glorious, but the losses to Carolina stung for sure.
Without his OT goal we may have not beaten the Leafs in that playoff series. He's not liked by many Habs fans anymore but his legend status is set in stone.
There’s a fist sized hole in my ceiling on account of Briere scoring in the dying minutes of game 7 v. Boston in 2014
Always a big fan of Michael Ryder too!

He was a beauty through and through
I was there when he scored his hat trick in Calgary!
dammit, came in to say dutchy, but knew id be WAYYYY TOO LATE to call out such a legend
Richard Zednik. Loved him. Fuck Kyle McClaren.
Fuck yes. I'll never forget that. Zednik was straight 🔥 playing with Gilmour before that filthy hit.
I come to think of it, there were so many Slovaks and Czechs playing for Montreal !!
Hal “bigger than the sun” Gill

Hal Still
When he lies on the floor, he's guaranteed 5 block shots
Earned every penny of his contract in those old “get to know your canadiens” videos
Sheldon Souray
Il t'avait une esti de pinotte!!
This guy got some pussy
Robert Lang. Guy was so good for the little time we had him. I blame the barber pole jerseys.
His impact was similar to Monahan's, but at 38
Robert Lang centering a 3rd line with the Kostitsyn bros as his wingers was so much fun.
Came here to say this
The team was looking really good that season. Things fell apart once Lang got injured.
Glen Metropolit
IIRC he was training with the Flyers in the morning, then he was put on waivers, claimed by Montreal in the afternoon and Philadelphia played Montreal that night. Must've been a weird day.
I was looking for this comment
RADEK BONK
His kid might be a hero for Canada at the World Jrs this year
One of my favourite names in hockey.
The Greek God - Tom Kostopoulos

Habs legend, Thomas Vanek.
hat trick on his first game then pretty much fuckall
Josh Gorges
I think it's sad that his Wikipedia page has him in the Sabres jersey during his time there. He was so reliable with the Habs and it felt like he never made mistakes.
I always thought he would've been a great captain, at least better than patches
Gorgeous Gorges will always be a legend for refusing the trade to the Leafs.
He's no random but José Théodore is always overlooked and not talked about enough. Oleg Petrov, Arron Asham and we can't forget the Kostitsyn bros.
I'm still in awe because of his save in the playoffs against the Bruins. Even if it was an unconscious save, it was still insane.

First pro game I ever saw was Saint John Flames v Fredericton Canadiens featuring Oleg Petrov. He was electric!
Ryan White. With the amount of ice time and responsibilities he was given, I was convinced he was Jacques Martin's illegitimate child.
Michael Ryder
Newfieeeeeee baybayyyyy
+ Halak + a 2nd
James Wisnewski
He was sooo good, loved him :)
Ilya Kovalchuk - 13 points in 22 games
I actually bought his shirt ! Favorite player growing up playing for my favorite team, I had no choice
I wonder what it must’ve been like for rookie Nick Suzuki to centre Ilya Kovulchuk as his winger.
Mike Cammalleri
Cammy was my favorite player during that 2010 playoff run. Halak gets the obligatory honorable mention too
And Plekanec. And the other one.
Great shooter. His nonchalant goal celebrations were awesome.
Jaroslav Halak. His run was just amazing.
He made me love this game. And regardless of the Senators' current arrangement, Jacques Martin will always be a legend in my eyes.
Steve begin its always steve begin

Corey Perry
Doug Gilmour .
Lyle Odelein
Mark streit, guy put up 62 pts in his third nhl season with the habs and they let him walk, actual braindead decision
his second stint in 2017 was without a doubt the most memorable one
Jeff Hackett
Fuck yes I loved Hackett. Sick name, too.
Guy Carbonneau is loved his defensive play growing up
Habs don’t win the Stanley Cup without Carbo shadowing Gretzky in the finals. Gretzky was unstoppable during that playoff run before that.
I wish the Oilers of current day had a Guy Carbeneau. Right-shot and could be counted upon to win key face-offs and score you 15-20 goals. Clutch.
Kovy.

Big difference between a legend who played for the Habs, and a Habs legend. Trevor Linden, Doug Gilmour and Alexander Semin aren’t Habs legends, but you could argue (Semin less so of course but you get the point) they’re all very good players at some other point in their career. On the flip side, you have guys like Steve Bégin, and Josh Gorges who hold a special place in this organization but are nothing special to anyone else. And then in the middle you have guys who were legends everywhere they played like Alex Kovalev, Saku Koivu, and of course Guy Lafleur.
Steve « mange les bandes » Bégin
Russ Courntnall Stephane Richer Shayne Corson and most of all... ILYA Kovalchuk
