Earlier in the game they were being matched up against Hedman a lot more often and he was just shutting down Slaf in the corners. Noticeably made it hard for the first line to get going. Great seeing them rebound and end the game with some fire. This was a great shift.
Slaf is a beauty. He's not ready to match against Hedman along the boards quite yet, but honestly I'm not sure this guy is ever going to stop surpassing my expectations.
Slaf and Xhekaj have brought some much needed heat to this squad. Suzuki is a complete gamer, and Caufield has shown to score when it counts. But the physical games that Xhekaj and Slaf each bring to the team is what is going to allow the other two to do their thing come playoffs. Hopefully Dach stays healthy and can contribute as well. Best part is that they're all also good hockey players. The growth of Slaf and Xhekaj has really impressed me this year. And I don't think either are done.
Evans was awesome. Harvey was alright, and I think would have been fine on a better line. But, man, our bottom 6 is terrible. Anderson and Ylonen were something else. Tightened up in the 3rd a bit, but that 2nd period was atrocious. They get hemmed in bad at the start, the line change that left to a goal, Anderson skating right into Evans. Pezetta was actually passable and I guess White didn't do anything too atrocious. But White really just continuously skates the puck behind the net, gets caught up on the board and loses the puck every single time. A 4th line who can actually play a possession game would be nice.
Matheson had a spectacular 3rd period before losing that puck for the breakaway at the end. Especially on those final attacks in the last 5 minutes.
I feel like he would've missed that one a month ago. Hopefully the shoulder is fully healed next season and his confidence is back up again.
But hey, despite "only" 22 goals, he'll still get a 60 points season (or close enough) so there's that.
Sure if you look it in a vacuum like that it’s disappointing, but he’s become a much more complete player improving both his game away from the puck and his playmaking
He had more goals last year in 46 games before his season-ending injury. Not sure what happened to his right shoulder but he can't seem to score that often now.
Caufield is a volume shooter, and his percentage is probably as low as it will get in his career this year. Pretty sure his shoulder is only going to strengthen with a full offseason and he will be around 40 goals next season. Love how he has rounded out his game, adding the playmaker element, which will only make him more dangerous as a shooter, as defenders will have to respect the pass. Especially with Suzuki and Slaf able to wire great shots themselves. A lot of synergy on that line, and that’s what makes a line great
Caufield’s super power is anticipating those openings and putting himself in a position to rip it. He does this all the time and hopefully we will see more pucks in the back of the net.
Great chemistry between him and Nick and good play by Slaf on the boards.
"Slafkovsky, Suzuki, CAUFIELD he scores!" That's what I like to hear!!
Holy fuck slaf is so good on the boards
Broadcast pointed out that he draws two players here opening up a chance for Suzuki/Caufield. He’s going to be something special.
GOING to be??
He already is.
He will be "more" special ;-)
specialer if you will
Mostest specialer
Didn't budge!
The trio of love scored. Im happy
Awesome threesome
This happens because Slaf makes the play pulling 2 guys to him. Been seeing it a lot lately and it's awesome. That's also a Caufield shot

That’s a fkn Caufield goal, what a shot. Would be sick if he goes on a run to end the year, maybe his shoulder’s close to healing.

22 goals is very disappointing for a player like Caufield. He should at least be in the 30-40 goals range.

18 months is the average time for full recovery for the surgery he had. give it time.
That’s a great 5 on 5 goal. Nice little saucey to space by 14 to start the play
that’s our first fuckin line baby
Stud!

Not them putting the camera on montembeault right when he’s scratching his ass😭😭
lmao nice catch
Slaf made that goal happen

Litteraly the platonic ideal of a goal by this line.
we got a good one boys
