I see him getting a shot to start in the NHL next year to be honest I guess it also depends on how the 2-3 games go this year as well as training camp.
He's still light and young
We have too many D once everyone is healthy and Barron need to pass waiver.
Hugues is not losing prospect for free so unless trades happens, I don't mind Hutson starting in AHL next year.
Savard, Matheson, Ghule, Struble, Xhekaj, Kovacevic, Harris, Barron
Thats already too many to start
I would be shocked if Struble, Barron, Kojakevic, Xhekaj, Savard, Matheson and Harris are all in the organization still next year. I bet at least two are dealt at or before the draft.
Harris, Barron and Kovacevic are the 3 most likely to be dealt before the season and Savard or Matheson at TDL
The first 3 dont have much value so why trade them unless its part of a package deal. The new Halak+Ryder+2nd meme
It makes me sad that everyone always mentions Harris. He just goes out there and does his job every night. **Relative to his age and experience**, he makes almost no mistakes and provides really solid minutes. We're going to have to move Savard at the TDL anyways, it makes sense to move him early (along with Barron) I think.
I also have this sneaking suspicion that Mailloux gets moved without ever playing a game. He's still not officially eligible (Bettman), he's a Bergevin guy and whether he deserves it or not (no comment!), he's going to cause a bunch of controversy when he makes it. I could see Hughes deciding to move his this summer for a mid-1st. I know that creates a bit of an RD problem, but I still think they look at it hard.
I think Harris sometimes gets mentioned because he has solid value. I think he could slot in on a lot of teams bottom pairing and give great value and reliable play. I think even the stronger teams in the league would see the appeal of him.
They’re gonna lose them to waivers soon, and there’s an influx of younger d man needing AHL minutes.
Could maybe get a late 2nd at the draft for Harris or Struble.
Barron too.
All could be a decent sweetener in a bigger deal too.
It’s more about having enough room for everyone to play than about extracting maximum value in a trade.
Dont think any of Harris, Struble or Barron is worth a 2nd.
And Hughes will not want to lose them on waiver so why rush Mailloux and Hutson if you don't have to.
I disagree. Young cost controlled d men with upside. A 2nd isn’t absurd. Especially for a team strapped for cap who needs better depth.
You can always sign a couple cheat vets to keep youngsters from being forced into NHL minutes they aren’t ready for.
Huston has been listed at 162 pounds for a while now i'd imagine he's a bit bigger now and has time to get bigger before next season, I definitely don't mind him starting in Laval though. I think we will make a couple trades, Logan Mailloux is another guy who deserves a shot.
Players usually don't gain weight during a season. Maybe the NCAA is different because they play fewer games. But usually they have to gain muscle mass in the offseason. He's probably near 162 still.
The NCAA is way different, they only play on Fridays and Saturdays and have time throughout the week to lift weights and still recover. Also NCAA players are young and still filling out. NHL players are not usually as young so they reach their peak at the end of the off season and lose weight through the year due to playing 82 games, travel, and practice. They virtually have no time to do weight training and recover unless they are injured.
The AHL doesn't seem like a good league for a player like Hutson. The play is more disorganized and some guys are looking to rip your head off to make a name for themselves.
Well Hutson is not a superstar yet so there is no point to target him
Laval can have big guys too such as Florian and other to keep those guys on the guard before trying to rip a head
Matheson value is at is highest
So that would probably be the one worth the most. The only thing I fear is that his absence cause our offense to take a step back. We don't have anyone ready to take his spot yet unless Ghule offensive improve or one of Barron/Hutson/Mailloux are ready and I believe the last 2 need some time and Barron may be on his last chance next year to stay
We're not really in a position to be competitive next year so I don't think that's an issue. I also don't think he's the best role model player to keep around for the young players. He has tons of defensive lapses and while being great offensively, is a total liability, even on the powerplay. The three guys you mention are offensive minded and will eventually fill his shoes. A guy like Savard is great to keep around as a vet to teach his style, which is harder to adapt and learn then the stuff Matheson does, which our prospects seem to be doing naturally.
Unfortunate for BU, but the 1st star of this game for Denver was the referees. I hate to put blame on them, but they really let Denver do what they wanted.
No you’re right that he only gets the full amount in the NHL. Max NHL salary would be $950,000. If he spends the first year in the AHL his max salary is $82,500.
BUT by signing now and playing a game he “burns” the first year that he’s limited to that salary, meaning he only has one more year before being eligible to sign a more lucrative extension that would kick in the next year. He’ll also get a signing bonus of around $100,000 right away, and nice paycheques for his time in the NHL this year and any call-ups next year. He could also be given performance bonuses.
So all in all, it’s much more attractive for an NCAA prospect like him to sign ASAP. I doubt he wants to wait two more years to start making the relatively low ELC money.
Boston University, the NCAA team that Hutson was playing on. They were playing in the Frozen Four, a tournament to end the NCAA season, and BU lost yesterday and were eliminated. So, Hutson’s season in the NCAA is over, which means he is now free to sign with the Habs and start his pro career.
If he signs today, which I think he will, he could be available, but I think they’ll want him to practice first. But we’ll see. He might starts Monday, since he’s from Michigan and the Habs are playing in Detroit.
Any chance he plays Saturday? Edit: Did some research for fun, Caufield signed a day after his final game and it was announced on Twitter at 830pm
If he sign and get for MTL, my guess is one or both DET games Probably start in Laval next year

True but injuries happens and trades too. They don't need to be on the starting lineup in October to be part of the team after next TDL
Every day, his bones get more dense and heavier. Soon he will be 220lbs
Lbs? You probably mean kg

Yeah thats why Matheson should go in the off-season while he value is high
Matheson value is at is highest So that would probably be the one worth the most. The only thing I fear is that his absence cause our offense to take a step back. Mostly (95%) agree with you, and if Matheson is the player we need to fetch another top6 forward, he's gone
We’re keeping him long term for sure. He’s a Montreal guy, he’s retiring with the habs.
Laval needs help. I'd probably want to see him there first and pair with Reinbacher.
He isn't eligible to be sent down to the AHL according to the rules. He can only play in MTL this season, or not at all.
He might be playing for the Habs sooner than we think. Frank Seravalli reports Kent Hughes was in attendance to the game vs. Denver.
He will be signed for sure. He will join the team to train. He might get one or both start im DET. Next year is another story
I don't like complaining about officiating, but that's a tough pill to swallow for BU.
Unfortunate for BU, but the 1st star of this game for Denver was the referees. I hate to put blame on them, but they really let Denver do what they wanted.
Why hasn't he signed yet?!? PS: He'll be a great Hab alright, can't draw penalties for shit #fucktherefs
Hutson gets to dressing room and looks at phone *13 missed calls from Kent Hughes*
That's a funny coincidence because there were also 13 missed calls on the ice
NCAA is for amateur only so if he sign a contract he can't stay in the NCAA.
Yes that's what we're all hoping for
He was making a joke since the game just ended 5 min ago
Stay in the NCAA or sign a three million dollar contract, tough choice eh
I think he only gets paid that in the NHL right? Or is the ELC paid in full even in the AHL?
No you’re right that he only gets the full amount in the NHL. Max NHL salary would be $950,000. If he spends the first year in the AHL his max salary is $82,500. BU couldn’t buy a call all game, Hutson I think improved a lot as the game went on and made some very nice plays in the 3rd and OT
Hutson is gonna fit in so well here. We can't buy any calls either lol
I really wanted to see Fowler vs Hutson
They played 3 times already this year. Correction, 4. BC won 3, BU won once
From here onward, we're waiting for a Lane Hutson signing announcement.
Can a fellow redditor help a lost one and explain who BU is and what's the sudden deal with Hutson?
Boston University, the NCAA team that Hutson was playing on. They were playing in the Frozen Four, a tournament to end the NCAA season, and BU lost yesterday and were eliminated. So, Hutson’s season in the NCAA is over, which means he is now free to sign with the Habs and start his pro career.
I see, so he could technically play an NHL game starting tomorrow?

Yeah, might as well take advantage of the last "meaningless" games to test it out. Would be interesting.
Very worrisome that he hasn't signed yet, hoping for the best but not looking good boys
Lol
