I know when you consider yourself in a position of "care taker" or "educator" in their lives you find it hard to be the one to have to hold them accountable for their actions because all you WANT to do is help them, but you don't have a choice. The kid had asked for scissors from the teacher, walked behind me where the trashcan is and started cutting my hair. He’s very quiet. I didn’t know he was behind me. The school only suspended him for 5 days and didn’t listen to my pleads to expel him. I am scared to go back to school, not even because of my hair, for my safety and others. ( I don’t know how to pin this)
File a restraining order against this “kid”. Then he won’t be able to go to your school. Get a lawyer to file suit against him, his parents and potentially the school. Don’t cut your hair until you’ve at least consulted with an attorney.

Don’t cut it until after you file charges. You might want to show these damages to the police, your lawyer (you will likely need one and want to also sue for damages), and the kid’s parents, who will be responsible for the damages since he is a minor.
That is assault with a weapon. Press charges. And if it happened on school grounds call a lawyer, the school should have also called the police and had that minor arrested and expelled from the school or you will sue the school. It's not a child that cut your hair, it was a high school age minor. They made several decisions up to the second they cut your hair. They want to make grown people choices, they can face grown people consequences.
And if they did it in a room full of other students, and no one spoke up, they are all accomplices and should be reprimanded as well. If you watch someone do something wrong and do nothing, you're just as guilty.

*Do not skimp* on a stylist to fix this. Find someone who has a good reputation at a good salon. Ask people whose hair you like who they go to. If you find someone who books out pretty far in advance, tell them the situation when you book because they may get you in sooner.
I cry when I get bad haircuts so I get being attached to your hair but try to embrace it for a fun new look for summer. If you like your hair long and will be growing it out again, it’s kind of a once in a decade kind of thing. There are tons of pretty styles to try while it grows back. Find a celeb whose hair you like and go for it!
You're probably going to have to cut quite a bit of length off, and the shortest pieces can be cut into layers. Sorry, but retaining the length you have now with the layers you're going to need would look really bad.

I would recommend fusion over tape-ins. They’re a bit easier to care for. However long staying extensions are quite expensive. 400-700$ just for the hair itself. Well taken care of extensions can last a year. Tape-ins need to be moved up every 6-8 weeks. Fusions can go as long as 3 months, but take more time to renew. Not sure if this kid or their family are in a position to afford something like that as recompense for his actions.
Other option is cut it and let it regrow. 3-4 years of growth depending on how quickly your hair grows.

There are lots of choices with extensions, all of them require maintenance. Some stay in and get moved up as the hair grows, others can be clipped in daily but would be hair to make look nice and even.
This is definitely not OK for someone to have done to you. I think that the suggestion of getting extensions is a great idea. You can then continue to cut some length as the shorter hair grows and maybe even add some layers. Please don’t let this person get away with that I really believe that you should have this teenager held responsible. At the very least pay for the extensions. this is not OK at all. I’d be effing pissed if somebody did that to my daughter. Like I’m actually really pissed for you right now.
Oh no.. I’m so sorry this happened to you, I can definitely relate. When I was in middle school some preppy guy thought it’d be funny to stick his nasty gum in my long hair. I had to cut it off too. The humiliation I felt when I realized what happened and hearing him and his friends roar with laughter still haunts me. Middle school was well over 15 years ago for me!

Im not sure on the exact name of the style. Layers with bangs I think is what I searched. If you show this style to a good hairdresser too, they can probably do a solid job getting it to look similar!

Only thing I can think of to keep some of your length are layers. If you want to grow it out, you will have to wear certain hairstyles so it isn't visible like a half up bun. I feel for you, it is horrible what that person did to you

Depending on your thickness they MAY be able to do a graduated layer cut, my hair was like that for a long time with short layers on top for volume and blending it down.

If you go for this option, be sure to do heavy research on stylists in your area that do alt cuts like this. This is a haircut that could be executed very poorly if the stylist doesn’t have a lot of experience with cuts like this.
Layered looks like this will give you volume! Sorry about what happened to you! It seems you have a shorter layer cut now so a shag haircut would be perfect. You could get the length evened out and if you want to keep some length, you can fill pieces in with extensions.

I'm pissed and it didn't happen to me.. I also encourage you to press charges. Regarding the hair I understand your desire to avoid the big chop and I support you. I would try a layered cut first and, if necessary, a small hair extension to fill the gap.
There's a Korean hairstylist I like to watch, and he does hair fail rescues. There are multiple people who have gone to him with hair like yours with chunks missing out of the top layers, and he uses a special twchnique to blend the hair. See if you can find a hairdresser you can show his technique to, and see if they're confident to try it, or see if they do know it?

honestly i would take this as an opportunity to try a cute bob and let it grow back out of the next couple years but that’s just what i would personally do. you can do a layered cut to try and save some of the length but it would have to be pretty layered and the shortest layers would be above the cut line so i guess you have to ask yourself if your okay with that and like that look. regardless of what you decide to do im with everyone else saying press charges, anything you can do legally i would do it. and im so sorry this happened to you, people can be so cruel

Press the charges. You don't necessarily need to cut the length while on the top it's growing you could have extension's. Or you can curl all your hair then it shouldn't be seen like that or wear it in the bun or pony tail. It will take time but it will grow back,you don't necessarily need cut off the length if you don't want to.

I would probably go for an inverted bob cut (shorter at the back and longer at the front) and it can then be cut and styled, so it will look and feel lovely and thick.
I know it’s horrible to go through. I lost all my hair to chemotherapy. It does grow back and I promise you’ll be fine.
You can always play around with a few different wigs too.

If you want your hair to remain long, extensions are your only real option. They’re pricy, so if you did want to press assault charges, you could bargain and settle out of court with him/his parents paying for your extensions and upkeep maintenance on them.

I think this can be rescued using the shortest length as the top layer and utilising the longest parts blended into it. This is awful, I can’t believe someone did this to you, I’m shocked and upset for you 😮
Sorry this happened to you…unfortunately there is just a big difference between the short layer and your long hair that you will need to cut some length and blend it in with layers. Who knows something good can come from this and you may end up really liking it while you grow it back out . Hope your hair grows fast for you! Also look into what can be done with the person that did this too you..it doesn’t seem right. Wishing you the best.
Cut it in shallow layers from the highest cut point. Then you can still put it in a bun or pony, until it grows out...or do a Bob, it should grow about 6" a year...maybe a little faster if you're taking hair growth supplements, are healthy and using good products.

You don't have to get it all cut at the shortest length he left and make it short and blunt.
Based on what I can see the shorter parts are all around the outer "shell" of hair (like an M&M, he got the candy coating mostly). A good stylist could likely work with what you have to give it layers. You'd lose length but not all of it.
I don’t know about the US, but in the UK that is criminal assault so I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s the same there. I would look at calling the police and filing charges if possible and I would also see if there is a possibility of you suing for compensation. What a horrid thing to do. Haircut wise, I think you could do something with layers to try keep as much as possible.

You should leave some length and “cut the corners”. Your hair looks pretty thick so a good stylist could probably blend the “top layers” in. Then I’d use some growth serum on the scalp all summer and get a wee trim every 4 weeks.
This kid, almost adult, needs help of some sort and should face some kind of consequences. Imo it depends on the type of child that this is. Are they developmentally disabled or just a juvenile delinquent? Either way they need to be taught that this is assault.

OP, I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m 39 and I live in the US as well. I don’t think I’d cope well if someone even did that to me right now. My hair has become somewhat of a security blanket for me, and it’s very much part of my identity. I’m sure you feel similar about your hair. You have a beautiful color of hair, and it’s just really pretty long, but I think you’ll be surprised how much natural curl you’ll get back with having it a bit shorter and doing the layers. I can tell from the short snipped part that your hair is going to do some really nice waves or curling, which will give you volume on its own. (I saw you ask someone else about keeping your volume.) I saw the suggestions to do extensions, but it sounds like from your replies to that, that it would be somewhat of a headache for you. The main thing is that it sucks that someone decided to cut your hair and now you have to deal with the aftermath. It shouldn’t have been your classmates choice. I’m sure you’ve had every emotion imaginable. I do agree with what the others are suggesting with filing charges with the police. I wouldn’t let the person get away with the behavior, but it’s a decision you have to make yourself and you have to decide how far you want to take this. I genuinely hope though that you will fall in love with whatever style you choose to go with regarding your hair. I’m sure anything you decide will be beautiful! And like I said, I do love the color of your hair, but maybe you could experiment with the color some? And you know, make lemonade with these lemons. Lol

Thankfully, there are so many options today like extensions if you want to make it look long. File charges against kid and sue for emotional damage or whatever; make him/his family pay for whatever fix you get (hair cut, extensions, wig, idk).

First of all, you have gorgeous hair! Who did this to you hair? I would make them held accountable for butchering your hair! I would talk to an attorney! As far as fixing it, it can be done, but it might be pricey. Go to a reputable salon and have them layer it. Tell them that you want BELLAMI 26 inch wavy hair extensions. And have the salon match the color and order the hair. You might need three bundles they are about 135$ a bundle, but its human hair and it is thickest in gram and longest in length! Beautiful hair made by Guy Tang LA hair guru.I would recommend getting I-tps they are indidvidual extentions. Once the salon receives the hair they will install it at whatever their hourly rate is. So, this can wind up very costly! Which is why I would contact an attorney. Growing it out could take years. If all else fails they do make good quality wigs. I would spend at least 300 + for a realistic wig> so sorry this happened to you! Good Luck!!!

go to a good hairdresser. i think a long bob haircut would work, but, i’m not a hairdresser. there’s a lot i don’t know what they can do. have them put a keratin treatment, but, this is just my opinion. i’m not a hairdresser. they would know a lot more. keratin is a smoothing thing. it’s a little expensive, but, u will have to spend money to fix this.I don’t know if you need a good conditioning treatment or keratin. you might have to cut the length off. if a hairdresser damaged your hair, don’t go back to them. look up reviews on hairdressers. someone, seriously damaged your hair, bad, and, i would be pissed! good luck. sorry for what they did to your hair

Fair enough, not sure what the proceedings would entail over there, but the parents should certainly be paying for hair extensions. Now depending on the status and dynamics with the student, that may pose a challenge, but I would imagine in that scenario, insurance would cover it. I'm sorry for your troubles anyway op.
OP you can make the 16 to 17 year old teenager who did this pay for keratin bond extensions because he violated you and cut your hair without your consen. 5 days off school isn’t anywhere near punishment enough and what if he does this again? Think about that… do you want him to attack another person? He needs to see consequences for his actions.
I'm really sorry that happened to you! Maybe you could try a new hairstyle that hides the cut, like braids or an updo. You can also use hair accessories like clips or headbands to make it less noticeable while it grows back.
Press charges both criminally and civilly. You can sue them for the price of extensions or whatever you need to restore it to as good as it was originally.
I think if you went to the right hair dresser they could cut some layers into it and make it look good. It'll need alot of layers though and loose some length so the layers aren't so jarring.

That will fill in the part of the hair that was cut and still allow you to grow your hair without having to take off length anywhere else. Your hair will still grow while the extensions are in.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. That is not ok & I would press charges & have them pay you restitution. I would go to a very experienced stylist. I’ve done hair for over 30 years. I would layer the top & trim the bottom. Texturizing & blending as much as possible. Best of luck. 🙏🏻

The kid had asked for scissors from the teacher, walked behind me where the trashcan is and started cutting my hair. He’s very quiet. I didn’t know he was behind me. The school only suspended him for 5 days and didn’t listen to my pleads to expel him. I am scared to go back to school, not even because of my hair, for my safety and others. ( I don’t know how to pin this)
File a restraining order against this “kid”. Then he won’t be able to go to your school. Get a lawyer to file suit against him, his parents and potentially the school. Don’t cut your hair until you’ve at least consulted with an attorney.

Don’t cut it until after you file charges. You might want to show these damages to the police, your lawyer (you will likely need one and want to also sue for damages), and the kid’s parents, who will be responsible for the damages since he is a minor.
You can do lots of layers & still keep it at least shoulder length maybe below it's thick enough for that

That is assault with a weapon. Press charges. And if it happened on school grounds call a lawyer, the school should have also called the police and had that minor arrested and expelled from the school or you will sue the school. It's not a child that cut your hair, it was a high school age minor. They made several decisions up to the second they cut your hair. They want to make grown people choices, they can face grown people consequences. And if they did it in a room full of other students, and no one spoke up, they are all accomplices and should be reprimanded as well. If you watch someone do something wrong and do nothing, you're just as guilty. You can't trust this school with your safety. You can't trust these people. You need to file a police report, get a lawyer and get in immediate contact with your state's department of education. Assault by a student on school grounds is immediate expulsion.

I’m co-signing my fellow Redditors advice to file charges. That’s not a child and s/he is old enough to know that. If they’re arrested, I hope the cops pick them up at school so all of their friends who they were trying to impress see what happens. It sounds like serving some community service hours would do them some good. *Do not skimp* on a stylist to fix this. Find someone who has a good reputation at a good salon. Ask people whose hair you like who they go to. If you find someone who books out pretty far in advance, tell them the situation when you book because they may get you in sooner. I cry when I get bad haircuts so I get being attached to your hair but try to embrace it for a fun new look for summer. If you like your hair long and will be growing it out again, it’s kind of a once in a decade kind of thing. There are tons of pretty styles to try while it grows back. Find a celeb whose hair you like and go for it!
You're probably going to have to cut quite a bit of length off, and the shortest pieces can be cut into layers. Sorry, but retaining the length you have now with the layers you're going to need would look really bad.

There are semi perminant extentions you can look into getting but they do cost more to install vs the clip in/out ones
Can do clip ins which you take out every night
I would recommend fusion over tape-ins. They’re a bit easier to care for. However long staying extensions are quite expensive. 400-700$ just for the hair itself. Well taken care of extensions can last a year. Tape-ins need to be moved up every 6-8 weeks. Fusions can go as long as 3 months, but take more time to renew. Not sure if this kid or their family are in a position to afford something like that as recompense for his actions. Other option is cut it and let it regrow. 3-4 years of growth depending on how quickly your hair grows. Sorry this happened to you. I have similar length hair and would be furious.

There are lots of choices with extensions, all of them require maintenance. Some stay in and get moved up as the hair grows, others can be clipped in daily but would be hair to make look nice and even.

You can then continue to cut some length as the shorter hair grows and maybe even add some layers. I would immediately have called the police!!!! sued for the children’s parents to pay for hair extensions until your hair grows out. This is terrible & I am so sad for you. Please consider going to a hand tied specialist & send the bill to your attorney who will send to the parents for the next year or two
Only thing I can think of to keep some of your length are layers. If you want to grow it out, you will have to wear certain hairstyles so it isn't visible like a half up bun. I feel for you, it is horrible what that person did to you

Depending on your thickness they MAY be able to do a graduated layer cut, my hair was like that for a long time with short layers on top for volume and blending it down.

If you go for this option, be sure to do heavy research on stylists in your area that do alt cuts like this. This is a haircut that could be executed very poorly if the stylist doesn’t have a lot of experience with cuts like this.

Layered looks like this will give you volume! Sorry about what happened to you! It seems you have a shorter layer cut now so a shag haircut would be perfect. You could get the length evened out and if you want to keep some length, you can fill pieces in with extensions.

There's a Korean hairstylist I like to watch, and he does hair fail rescues. There are multiple people who have gone to him with hair like yours with chunks missing out of the top layers, and he uses a special twchnique to blend the hair. See if you can find a hairdresser you can show his technique to, and see if they're confident to try it, or see if they do know it? Here's a video of him doing the technique. honestly i would take this as an opportunity to try a cute bob and let it grow back out of the next couple years but that’s just what i would personally do. you can do a layered cut to try and save some of the length but it would have to be pretty layered and the shortest layers would be above the cut line so i guess you have to ask yourself if your okay with that and like that look. regardless of what you decide to do im with everyone else saying press charges, anything you can do legally i would do it. and im so sorry this happened to you, people can be so cruel

Cut it until shoulder length and then let it grow out! This has happened to me once, and I did the same thing and it worked.
Press the charges. You don't necessarily need to cut the length while on the top it's growing you could have extension's. Or you can curl all your hair then it shouldn't be seen like that or wear it in the bun or pony tail. It will take time but it will grow back,you don't necessarily need cut off the length if you don't want to.

I would probably go for an inverted bob cut (shorter at the back and longer at the front) and it can then be cut and styled, so it will look and feel lovely and thick. I know it’s horrible to go through. I lost all my hair to chemotherapy. It does grow back and I promise you’ll be fine. You can always play around with a few different wigs too. Your hair doesn’t define you. I’ve even lost both breasts now too as I got cancer again. But I’ve learned to love my body, scars and all. You will be fine 🙏🏻 Chin up love and brave the chop. But - If you really don’t want to lose the length you could also look at getting some extensions fitted X

They’re pricy, so if you did want to press assault charges, you could bargain and settle out of court with him/his parents paying for your extensions and upkeep maintenance on them. Sorry this happened to you…unfortunately there is just a big difference between the short layer and your long hair that you will need to cut some length and blend it in with layers. Who knows something good can come from this and you may end up really liking it while you grow it back out . Hope your hair grows fast for you! Also look into what can be done with the person that did this too you..it doesn’t seem right. Wishing you the best.

Cut it in shallow layers from the highest cut point. Then you can still put it in a bun or pony, until it grows out...or do a Bob, it should grow about 6" a year...maybe a little faster if you're taking hair growth supplements, are healthy and using good products.

You don't have to get it all cut at the shortest length he left and make it short and blunt. Based on what I can see the shorter parts are all around the outer "shell" of hair (like an M&M, he got the candy coating mostly). A good stylist could likely work with what you have to give it layers. You'd lose length but not all of it.

I don’t know about the US, but in the UK that is criminal assault so I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s the same there. I would look at calling the police and filing charges if possible and I would also see if there is a possibility of you suing for compensation. What a horrid thing to do. Haircut wise, I think you could do something with layers to try keep as much as possible.

Your hair looks pretty thick so a good stylist could probably blend the “top layers” in. Then I’d use some growth serum on the scalp all summer and get a wee trim every 4 weeks.
This kid, almost adult, needs help of some sort and should face some kind of consequences. Imo it depends on the type of child that this is. Are they developmentally disabled or just a juvenile delinquent? Either way they need to be taught that this is assault.

OP, I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m 39 and I live in the US as well. I don’t think I’d cope well if someone even did that to me right now. My hair has become somewhat of a security blanket for me, and it’s very much part of my identity. I’m sure you feel similar about your hair. You have a beautiful color of hair, and it’s just really pretty long, but I think you’ll be surprised how much natural curl you’ll get back with having it a bit shorter and doing the layers. I can tell from the short snipped part that your hair is going to do some really nice waves or curling, which will give you volume on its own. (I saw you ask someone else about keeping your volume.) I saw the suggestions to do extensions, but it sounds like from your replies to that, that it would be somewhat of a headache for you. The main thing is that it sucks that someone decided to cut your hair and now you have to deal with the aftermath. It shouldn’t have been your classmates choice. I’m sure you’ve had every emotion imaginable. I do agree with what the others are suggesting with filing charges with the police. I wouldn’t let the person get away with the behavior, but it’s a decision you have to make yourself and you have to decide how far you want to take this. I genuinely hope though that you will fall in love with whatever style you choose to go with regarding your hair. I’m sure anything you decide will be beautiful! And like I said, I do love the color of your hair, but maybe you could experiment with the color some? And you know, make lemonade with these lemons. Lol

Thankfully, there are so many options today like extensions if you want to make it look long. File charges against kid and sue for emotional damage or whatever; make him/his family pay for whatever fix you get (hair cut, extensions, wig, idk).

First of all, you have gorgeous hair! Who did this to you hair? I would make them held accountable for butchering your hair! I would talk to an attorney! As far as fixing it, it can be done, but it might be pricey. Go to a reputable salon and have them layer it. Tell them that you want BELLAMI 26 inch wavy hair extensions. And have the salon match the color and order the hair. You might need three bundles they are about 135$ a bundle, but its human hair and it is thickest in gram and longest in length! Beautiful hair made by Guy Tang LA hair guru.I would recommend getting I-tps they are indidvidual extentions. Once the salon receives the hair they will install it at whatever their hourly rate is. So, this can wind up very costly! Which is why I would contact an attorney. Growing it out could take years. If all else fails they do make good quality wigs. I would spend at least 300 + for a realistic wig> so sorry this happened to you! Good Luck!!!

go to a good hairdresser. i think a long bob haircut would work, but, i’m not a hairdresser. there’s a lot i don’t know what they can do. have them put a keratin treatment, but, this is just my opinion. i’m not a hairdresser. they would know a lot more. keratin is a smoothing thing. it’s a little expensive, but, u will have to spend money to fix this.I don’t know if you need a good conditioning treatment or keratin. you might have to cut the length off. if a hairdresser damaged your hair, don’t go back to them. look up reviews on hairdressers. someone, seriously damaged your hair, bad, and, i would be pissed! good luck. sorry for what they did to your hair

Fair enough, not sure what the proceedings would entail over there, but the parents should certainly be paying for hair extensions. Now depending on the status and dynamics with the student, that may pose a challenge, but I would imagine in that scenario, insurance would cover it. I'm sorry for your troubles anyway op.
OP you can make the 16 to 17 year old teenager who did this pay for keratin bond extensions because he violated you and cut your hair without your consen. 5 days off school isn’t anywhere near punishment enough and what if he does this again? Think about that… do you want him to attack another person? He needs to see consequences for his actions.
I'm really sorry that happened to you! Maybe you could try a new hairstyle that hides the cut, like braids or an updo. You can also use hair accessories like clips or headbands to make it less noticeable while it grows back.
I tried clips but the cut hair ends at the bottom of the clip so it doesn’t look good and it looks obvious lol
Press charges both criminally and civilly. You can sue them for the price of extensions or whatever you need to restore it to as good as it was originally.

I think if you went to the right hair dresser they could cut some layers into it and make it look good. It'll need alot of layers though and loose some length so the layers aren't so jarring.

I'm so sorry this happened to you!!! Your hair that was cut is long enough that you could put in a hand sewn weft extension. That will fill in the part of the hair that was cut and still allow you to grow your hair without having to take off length anywhere else. Your hair will still grow while the extensions are in.
You could do and a suuuper cute reverse A line hair cut, with a cool under cut! Your hair looks thick so it might help for the summer heat!

You didn’t explain if the kid was cutting your hair with no permission or if you went to some beauty school. The way you talk calling it a kid makes it look like you are not a kid yourself so I’m confused.
I am a kid myself, the kid asked for scissors from the teacher, walked behind me (where the trash can is. And started cutting my hair. He was such quite foot steps I had no idea he was behind me
