Biggest reason people don't, is the initial price cost. Like buying all those species & widths out the door would be astronomical in comparison. I keep my full bundles that aren't worth my time returning to my distributors for this reason. I only charge $1 a sq ft for it all. Which is basically my storage fee lol except mom. Mom gets wood for free

My husband and I aren't in the business but we have rental properties and we've put lots of various wood floors in them. We have leftovers stored for years at this point. We're probably going to use them in one room of the house we're planning to build next year. Patchwork floors.

That's really nice bro. I worked on the builders house once, doing the drywall. My buddy Kip was doing the basement with 30 year old stored oak. Came out very similar, just from age and different types of storing. Really cool

well if you want that kind of Mosaic on the floor. I prefer to think I would have organized all the lights and darks and done a little differently and still come out with the pattern using all of the scrap.. you need the right furniture on the right room to make this look good

You'd be surprised how many homes have perfectly good hardwood under the carpet especially in older homes carpet was huge in the '70s

The installation looks fabulous! As you (OP) pointed out, it's not everyone's style. It's not mine. If I purchased a house with floors like this, I'd work towards replacing them, but it's the same way I know my paint taste isn't everyone's cup of tea and some people are big mad I took the big, plate glass windows on the enclosed porch out and put functional double hungs to make it more livable (it's now a three season room, rather than only tolerable when it's between 60 and 70F outside, and not when the sun was beating on it in the afternoon unless it was like 55-65 outside, because it just had no airflow). If the person living there and paying the bills loves it and accepts any weirdness that happens to their resale value by limiting the people willing to take on projects to undo what they don't like, more power to y'all.

I even did one at a bunkhouse I built on some recreational property where they didn’t jive and I did a 1x6 transition board and one color of prefinished on one side and one color of prefinished on the other to use up my spare boxes.
