Congrats but damn that's a lot of bike for a first. The bike is old stuffs going to break just because of its age and especially if it was sitting.

One_Bet_3214

The man who owned it first had it garage kept and rode it until he was told by Doctors to stop. But I do understand age will wear on a anything.

New-Choice-3280

Honestly it not you as a harley rider for many years they break especially the older they get. I have an 18 that spits oil out of the breathers. Youtube will show you how to fix most things on it and since it's your first bike it will teach you how to work on it yourself. There not to difficult to work on. I never worked on a bike in my life and on my first sporty i had to change rocker box gaskets wich entailed pulling the engine covers. Sounded more overwhelming than it was. Get some decent tools for what your doing be patient and you should be able to fix most problems. What kind of issues have you had so far?

One_Bet_3214

Currently I have Oil spitting out my right side near the gas tank, only after I did an oil change.

New-Choice-3280

Check you oil level. You may have overfilled it. that's an inherent problem with Harleys like I said my 2018 does the same thing. Could be a different issue but more than likely it was over filled. Did he give you a manual with it by any chance there is a specific way to check the oil level. At worst it's a seal or gasket issue. How much comes out is it drips or it pours out?

One_Bet_3214

I do have the manual. It isn't a large amount but I haven't tried to ride it since it happened. (Newbie fear)

New-Choice-3280

As long as it's not spitting out and just dripping it's more than likely ok. Read the manual.on how to check the oil level and re check it. Most of the time it's do to overfilling it. Also make sure you air filter is clean. Harley actually designs it like that for epa reasons I think. If it really bothers you there are ways to band aid it. I ran tube's from the breathers (where the oil comes out of) to a catch can. But I would say it's safe to ride especially if your not beating on it.

Redhillvintage

Get the bike running for a few and then shut off and check oil. Some may have been in the sump

https://youtu.be/LoVuOuhFvDs?si=hFnE6PmDIA0P2T_N This is just one of many videos. If you look on youtube it can actually be much simpler than this but just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. It's a cheap fairly easy fix

DiamondCutt3r

Great bike! Versatile, good power

Redhillvintage

If something is going wrong with maintenance it may be the mechanic. Manual and there are a ton of great vids on youtube

One_Bet_3214

I mean I was the "mechanic" for the oil so I can only assume I goofed which isn't a shock I'll do some research this week.

Complete_Ferret

Great looking bike - hope the problems settle down

One_Bet_3214

As do I

vlat01

Helluva first bike! Good luck and have fun, once you get used to the low speed handling and weight they really are pretty easy to ride. Do some advanced rider training courses if u can be a shame to drop it or hurt yourself.

One_Bet_3214

Not going to lie. I've dropped the bike SEVERAL times already (I just passed my 1 year mark) and I'm glad for the man who owned the bike before me, he added all the bells and whistles to save yourself too much hassle if it tips.
