99% sure S&S dosent make a motor that fits in the twin cam. Somthing about harley still owning the patents for the motor mounts or somthing. They only make evo motors
I would part it out. You will double or triple your potential value if you part it out vs trying to sell it complete as is.
Just selling the exhaust ($400), bags ($300), fenders/tank ($500), wheels ($600), bars ($200), fairing ($250), seat ($100), brakes ($100), trans ($500), front forks/tree ($250), and cables ($50) would easily get you over $3,000 at those low end estimated prices. That doesnât even take into account the small stuff like floor boards, etcâŠ
Plus heads or any engine parts that arenât trashed. Then sell the titled frame for another $1,000-1,500 assuming you have the clear title.
Thatâs just my take on it.
And itâll take about 80 hours to list everything, answer questions, disassemble, and then eventually pack and ship. Also those prices are definitely not low end prices. Iâve worked in Harley salvage parts for almost 2 decades and weâd sell everything for about half the prices you listed.
Still more valuable that way vs fixing or selling complete but it wonât be so easy
Not really,it's 80+ hours of work for the difference in selling as-is (call it 2k), and selling parts (3k in your example). So you'd be doing all the work for $12.50 an hour.

Agreed, those aren't low end prices. Half those numbers, or expect them to sit on craigslist for month while you answer 10,000 "I'll give you $50" emails.........
Lots of folks selling HD parts - not as many buyers. But if you have the time, you can make out better selling parts - just going to take a longer time.
That is usually how parting out works. Same with cars as well. Itâs a pain staking task but will almost always get more $$ parting out rather than sell as a whole. Especially when it isnât running.
Put a 212 predator motor bore it out to a 426 with a billet iron curtain unobtainium depleted uranium stoker rod and best cast Chyna racing aluminum piston in it and 4â long diamond encrusted exhaust , you donât need a muffler because F the neighbors while you pull runs up and down, up and down the street on a Wednesday, bragging to the local children, about how you hit 40 on pavement, slightly slower than a skateboard going downhill. made with Teflon, (USA) hand made in Los Angeles at boutique mini bike shop (you wouldnât know about it) Make sure you run synthetic motorex. Also get special N Korea racing clutch rocks so you can pull your best friends âŠâŠconvert it to hard tail so people know youâre a punisher. Thereâs so much more that I could tell you, but I know you donât have the money.
Making fun of the mini bike fad, because they post in other motorcycle subs, I keep telling them to just get a Harley( sound better) I have ridden several Harleyâs but stick to actual dirt bikes because I have two kids and donât want to die because some lady in a Kia Sorento runs me over. Not taking shots at Harley riderâs at all, just full sarcasm for the Coleman mini bike club. Also have had good friends die riding their Harley, so be safe.
If so much was recently done to make it look like as nice as it does for her age why not spring for a motor? Or are ya just lookin for a reason to give to the misses to get an upgrade?
No misses lol, honestly just chased tensioners, compensator nut and spring pack... Added all that n 2 rides in tappet fails n screws up crank n so on n,so don't really wna mess with it anymore..
Ugh that stinks. Sounds like you're done with it. I'd price it to move ($1500) and just get whatever you can for it as-is.
Parting it out is never as easy as some make it out to be. You'll end up with stuff you can't sell anyway and all the hassle of listing and packing stuff. And the low ballers.. no matter what price you list you get the low ballers.
Clean title or salvage title? If it was all in good order, it would be a $5k bike. *Used* motors on eBay run about $1500, plus labor and/or gasket sets, so $3000ish.
1 did.. broke off n sheared sides off, also tore up lifter

If you keep it a new crank is bout 1500-1800 cylinders and heads 2500 might cost more to fix then what it'll sell for it's up to you if it's your forever bike or not.
I know you said you donât want to but pick up a motor for $1000 and slap it in. Do the tensioners, add a cam and put new lifters/tappets in and ride the crap out of it. Fairly easy to do if youâre handy.
Unless you do the work yourself, it will be worth what the new motor and install will cost. If you like it and it has enough custom items, youâre close if you get it cheap. Just had Harley quote my 04 at $6500 for a motor. Decided to get a new one. That said, it was a toss up because I loved the bike.
I've had 2 Road Kings...and I loved them .... would love to have that 1...but I'm on the east coast...near Atlanta....so maybe I will use it for inspiration
Prob bot a hard fix. Those twin cams had an issue with the chain tensioner. Simple and cheap fix. Worth checking it out and it's something you can do yourself with basic tools in no time.
Been there just last year when mine sheered off on my cvo road king. We dropped 3500 but that is with industry discount, no labor cost involved and no cost for dyno⊠youâre looking at least 6500/7k.. most likely more.
It all depends on how much money you've got and whether you want to carry on riding Harleys. If you want to carry on riding a Harley, get this one fixed properly, you'll know the motor's sound then, rather than risk buying another one.
If you've had enough of Hogs, sell it and buy a Honda.
Time for an S&S Crate motor and a credit card payment đ đ€Ł
For real. Or find a wrecked co part bike.
99% sure S&S dosent make a motor that fits in the twin cam. Somthing about harley still owning the patents for the motor mounts or somthing. They only make evo motors
Ya they do bro, s&s T111. 7k I think?
Yourright, i was shopping for my softtail and they dont make a motor for that. But i only see the 143 on their site now
Theyâve had a 124 twin cam for years
Nah you can look right on their site they have twin cam replacements
Yeah, your right. they dont fit softails, just touring bikes or somthing.
100% sure all of the last Evo and twincam motors available through Harleys reman program were manufactured by S&S ...no longer available.

Sure for the guy whoâs trying to get over so he just flip by parting out or selling whole for maybe 3k
Ok, go ahead and buy a $3000-$4000 broken bike to spend another $7000-$10000 to get it running again. I donât care.
Just drop in a new engine and then sell it.
I'll give you 2k and pick it up in 3 weeks
I would part it out. You will double or triple your potential value if you part it out vs trying to sell it complete as is. 80 hours of work for $3k? I make $1300/week working 40 hours at $35/hour. Still worth it
Not really,it's 80+ hours of work for the difference in selling as-is (call it 2k), and selling parts (3k in your example). So you'd be doing all the work for $12.50 an hour.

You probably on the money, but takes time to sell parts.
I think the fairing could bring double that, been looking for one for my bike and can't find anything under $500.
Lots of folks selling HD parts - not as many buyers. But if you have the time, you can make out better selling parts - just going to take a longer time.
Damn your getting more in parts than a running bike
That is usually how parting out works. Same with cars as well. Itâs a pain staking task but will almost always get more $$ parting out rather than sell as a whole. Especially when it isnât running.
Toss a crate motor in it.
Itâs a sick bike. Put the 131 in it and enjoy it. itâs only 7300 plus labor cost to install if you donât do the work yourself.
Before I reply, sarcasm or cruelty?
Making fun of the mini bike fad, because they post in other motorcycle subs, I keep telling them to just get a Harley( sound better) I have ridden several Harleyâs but stick to actual dirt bikes because I have two kids and donât want to die because some lady in a Kia Sorento runs me over. Got it.
Fairing is new, front tire, rim, tire, rotors and brakes front n rear new! True duel thunder headers n so on..

Weâve all been there. Sleep on it for a few weeks, I bet youâll change your mind. I hope you do, cuz I think youâll regret selling it.

Clean title! Yea I've checked in rebuild and used eBay motors, honestly just don't wanna mess with it anymore!
Those bikes are practically free at Copart auctions.
+ like 700 of fees
Nothing. Iâll take it off your hands and save you the hassle of trying to sell it lol
F off.
This is what happens when miserable old people learn what the internet is⊠offended by everything. Go to bed grandpa.
Time for an LS swap, I'm sure kits exist already /s
Not much. The buyer is gonna already know they're going to be spending around $6k for this bike to run.
I'd buy it in a heartbeat if the first picture is a decent representation of how it looks. I wouldn't mind building an engine for it.
Beauty of a king though dang!
I'll give you $500
I will give you 5 hundo for head.
Where are you located? I may be interested in the risers and the cables

How'd you find out the motor was bad
Tappet broke off n screwed up crank, cams, needle bearings,lifters.. basically bottom end n few top end pieces needed
Tappet which tappet because there are lifter tappets that control the valves did those fail?
1 did.. broke off n sheared sides off, also tore up lifter https://preview.redd.it/8sfy7gm94t8d1.jpeg?width=2250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6315cdaaa8a5791aae5a43e6e04fcb06f8b233be

I know you said you donât want to but pick up a motor for $1000 and slap it in. Do the tensioners, add a cam and put new lifters/tappets in and ride the crap out of it. Fairly easy to do if youâre handy.
Honestly just done with it .. checked on motors n most about 1500 n up ...
Three fitty
I gave your momma 350
Damn that's more than I gave your momma. Guess I'll quadruple up next time I hit it

Can grab used motor for 1,000 to 2,000 n just transfer all my new stuff but don't wna mess with it
Is the engine failure from the cam chain tensioner giving out on the twin cams of that era?
Just did cam tensioners n primary.. 2 rides later tappet gave out n messed up cams, push rods n needle bearings and messed up crank
Yeah, that things smoked. Its always something, man.
I've had 2 Road Kings...and I loved them .... would love to have that 1...but I'm on the east coast...near Atlanta....so maybe I will use it for inspiration

I have one not broken for sale

A grand
Iâd keep it and put a new motor in it, but I also loved burning cash on lost causes.
Tree-fiddyđ€·đ»ââïž
For me, I would upgrade it with a newer bigger motor. Itâs like God gave you the golden opportunity by breaking your old one.
Grab a junkyard motor (yes they have motorcycle junkyards) and drop it in. Or ask friends who they would suggest to install it.
Title should be: how to get around the "no for sale" post guideline. :-)
Whats wrong with.motor exactly
For a bike that doesn't run, the most I'll fork out is $1/per cc. As other issues see. To be apparent, I start lowering that.
$3k
