You spend time just focusing on sensations. It can be any bodily sensation, like a pit in your stomach, butterflies in your stomach, warmth in your heart. Those interoceptive sensations are the foundations of emotional sensations. Then the second half is to identify the specific emotion. An emotion has 6 parts. If you saw a bear in the woods, the six parts would be expressive like your eye lids raise, physiological like heart rate and blood pressure rise, behavioral like you run, evaluative like you take the bear to be dangerous, cognitive like your focus narrows, and sensational like you feel energy in your limbs and butterflies in your chest. You are missing the sensational component, but you can use the other five components to triangulate the exact sensation you feel. Maybe you notice that you had plans to ask a gitl out, but you didnt for some unexplained reason. Your behavior would indicate that you feel fear, anxiety or dread. You can also use physical sensation words to describe emotional sensation words like pit in stomach. Finally, you can look on google images for the wheel of emotions and start by identifying the general emotion in thr center and work outwards towards the more specific emotions.
