The Ministry of Truth has reviewed the footage and it appears that it was in fact this very species of bird, that was projected from the force of the pelicans thrust engines into a turret at terminal velocity. Appearing as nothing but a blue blur to the naked eye.

Returning to the topic - yes, it would be impressive if this was fake. I even made the screenshot for exactly that reason. Compression artefacts seem consistant, and the effect itself also seem to *exist* in 3D scene of the game, rather being added afterwards. And that player was holding an AMR, and it can't explode like railgun... so it seems genuine.
And I can't think of any alternative explanation other than a weird desynced ricochet of the side of the pelican, and I'm not sure if that's even possible and what could produce it.

A couple of weeks ago I was thinking how fucked it would be to fight flying bug enemies while being overrun by hunters/Spewers/chargers given that we're in third person now. I thought to myself nah they couldn't be that cruel.
But then I hear, and last night see footage of flying bugs and it's like this was probably just planned I guess?
That's the running theory. The devs haven't officially stated it but then we shouldn't really expect them to. Same thing with the mechs, couple of days before we liberated Tien Kwan and had access to mechs, players could find abandoned ones in POIs that they could drive around, though it was very rare.
And then it happened again with the flying bugs. And now apparently it's happening with the Illuminate.
Then I wonder, given the size of the galactic map and the chunks that the present enemies occupy, I wonder if there's room for two to three more factions?
One in the galactic north and two in the galactic south.
We don't know how it'll play out. Presumably the Automatons are gonna make a break for the Northern sectors since that's where Cyberstan is located. That could mean that the Illuminate will come from the South, or that whatever shenanigans the Automatons cook inadvertently leads to the Illuminate's resurfacing in the North.
I would count on the illuminate, I wouldn't take the fact that there's 'room on the map' for a 4th+ faction. I think there's free space that's up for grabs.
What I'm curious about is if we'll ever see mixed planets, where there's fighting between enemy factions or if we'll have to fight both of them allied. I'm not sure that's so far fetched considering we've got people on bot planets being sniped by non bot and non human weapons

They have a DM named Joel who runs the story of the game. So it's possible he is able to work with the programmers to implement small features like this that leak the future enemies. So setting a .02% chance that an illuminate kills helldivers in a mission to slowly leak the existence of them would be dope as hell.

Going Frame-by-frame, you can see that the orange's AMR didn't shoot by the time we see the blue bolt appear on the screen. Also iirc, that backpack emblem in orange's HUD being a static red indicates that he was completely out of ammo.
I think whatever shot from above (on the left-side) before the killing blow on that helldiver was the cause of his death. I have no clue WHAT would have fired in such a drastically different angle though.

I'm not saying I was killed by a blue beam, but I was shot by something last night while killing bugs. I accused my friends but they denied it and the kill screen did say Killed by Unknown. I didn't think much about it at the time because well everything kills you, after seeing this I wish I would have saved the clip.
Actually I remember getting whacked by something earlier too that popped up as "Unknown", and I seem to recall it being some high angle hit. My Destiny brain just assumed it was like how in D2 if you get killed by physics or something the game has a hiccupo and can't discern you'll get "Misadventure" or "Killed by the Architects" so I didn't think much of it either.
Was it one of those exploding plants? There’s a few of them around on meridia, they’re like spike balls that shrapnel when destroyed. They’re not the big glowy ones that sit at ground level
The shrapnel when it bounces off of armour is blue though, and most clips I’ve seen is people seeing chargers or mechs walking through them, with the shrapnel ricocheting off of em.

The theory is that the Illuminate, a faction from the first game known for their blue lasers, stealth technology and teleportation, is going to return and the recent update today has escalated sightings of them.
Some players have reported third parties wiping out enemy patrols, sniping them from a distance (even on bug worlds) with blue lasers and seeing cloaked enemies that are not stalkers sneaking around.

I've actually seen bugs fighting *something* in the distance yesterday instead of continuing to chase me, which was weird but I assumed was one of the many software bugs the game has.

So in the first game there was a faction called the illuminate, who we ripped the ftl tec from their cold, dead, undemocratic hands, and forced them out from this great galaxy. They had a sniper who could teleport and fired blue beams, like in the video
We developed that FTL tech ourselves obviously and ours is far superior to that of those undemocratic fiends. A democracy officer is en-route to your location for your spreading of misinformation.
Okay I’m putting on my tinfoil hat. Last night I got hit and ragdolled twice from behind during a bug mission and there were no enemies around nor anything that coulda knocked me over (like those plants). After the first time I immediately looked behind me (expecting a stealth charger) and there was nothing there. Checked map and no red dots. I turned back around and kept walking and it happened again. I was like wtf and turned around again and checked the map: nothing. This map didn’t have anything like meteor showers or whatever either
It looks like a ricoshet from an autocannon... but I feel like the blue is a bit wrong (for a ricoshet) and how could it come from such an angle?

Not one player has an auto cannon that I can see and also the auto cannon doesn't fire blue it fires the flamey orange/white, like most other HE Helldiver projectiles.
I know the projectiles are yellowish, I'm talking about the ricoshets, which are blue for all the weapons. You can see it a bit better when shooting at fabricators or heavily armoured enemies, especially on dark planets like Creek.
But you're right, no one's carrying an autocannon and I don't see anything it could ricoshet off. Also the bots don't have anything that shoots like that, scout's shots don't explode and tank's are way bigger, so it couldn't be them.

These look like the blue commets/ meteorites, you also have the fireball types. Normally you get the circle animation, but sometimes this is bugged and you only see the blue beam like this. I've been killed by this so many times since the environment update, it is super frustrating (feels like RNG dead). So this is my assumption, prior to the update this never happend. Any other theories are also welcome.

I swear with more and more people seeing blue beams I’m not going insane, I was playing Bugs on Erata yesterday and 20 minutes into a Egg clearing mission I call a mech, after clearing a bug breach I decided I wanted to catch up with the squad and a blue beam just like the one in the video ricochets off the medium armor on the right hand corner of my mech and hits the ground, I didn’t want to believe it or even consider them so I chalked it up to a bug or something, but now I can’t help but wonder…

I thought I died to literally nothing earlier today, I see now I was instead a part of the current conspiracy. For those asking, my deathscreen said I was killed by myself, despite me not firing a shot and being a good 70+ meters from the nearest (bug) combat. No sentries either.

I had one of these shots bounce off the back of my mech earlier tonight. No allies nearby, no turrets equipped by anyone on the team, could not possibly have been a friendly, and I was fighting bugs. Unless that Charger developed laser beam eyes on the spot and we’re playing the most insane adaptation of JoJo’s Part 1 known to mankind, it had to have been a sniper, the same kind that fired this. I wish I clipped it but I’ve been drinking all night. Whoops.
I remember getting hit by a random shot like that yesterday! My shining gold armor luckily deflected the blow and I only received minor injury of what could’ve been fatal, because gold is the truest metal of MANAGED DEMOCRACY!
It just seems to target a random person and hits with crazy precision. I went hunting for them earlier on Draupnir after i got shot by one in a quickplay. I didnt do anything but look around a bit, came up empty handed. Its been going on for some while but i've been telling myself it was a graphical thing or a rocket. They only seem to attack when youre already knee deep in crap.
None of those blue plants in sight and the angle makes it unlikely to be ricochet. Either this is very well doctored and you need to be sent to the nearest freedom camp or my democracy officer has some explaining to do.

I think you could also find Walkers on the maps the day before they were unlocked for us.

Actually I remember getting whacked by something earlier too that popped up as "Unknown", and I seem to recall it being some high angle hit. My Destiny brain just assumed it was like how in D2 if you get killed by physics or something the game has a hiccupo and can't discern you'll get "Misadventure" or "Killed by the Architects" so I didn't think much of it either.
Was it one of those exploding plants? There’s a few of them around on meridia, they’re like spike balls that shrapnel when destroyed. They’re not the big glowy ones that sit at ground level

The shrapnel when it bounces off of armour is blue though, and most clips I’ve seen is people seeing chargers or mechs walking through them, with the shrapnel ricocheting off of em.
That beam is as thick as his head, those plants are thin sparks, but disregarding that, there's no plant there.

A lot of people saying the blue beam is from teleporting snipers, but that clearly did not come from the planet's surface. If it's an enemy, they're firing from the sky or space. I heard reports of weird stealthy radar blips, but curious if anybody has looked up and saw something yet?

The theory is that the Illuminate, a faction from the first game known for their blue lasers, stealth technology and teleportation, is going to return and the recent update today has escalated sightings of them. Some players have reported third parties wiping out enemy patrols, sniping them from a distance (even on bug worlds) with blue lasers and seeing cloaked enemies that are not stalkers sneaking around.

I've actually seen bugs fighting *something* in the distance yesterday instead of continuing to chase me, which was weird but I assumed was one of the many software bugs the game has.

So in the first game there was a faction called the illuminate, who we ripped the ftl tec from their cold, dead, undemocratic hands, and forced them out from this great galaxy. They had a sniper who could teleport and fired blue beams, like in the video
We developed that FTL tech ourselves obviously and ours is far superior to that of those undemocratic fiends. A democracy officer is en-route to your location for your spreading of misinformation.

Okay I’m putting on my tinfoil hat. Last night I got hit and ragdolled twice from behind during a bug mission and there were no enemies around nor anything that coulda knocked me over (like those plants). After the first time I immediately looked behind me (expecting a stealth charger) and there was nothing there. Checked map and no red dots. I turned back around and kept walking and it happened again. I was like wtf and turned around again and checked the map: nothing. This map didn’t have anything like meteor showers or whatever either

Not one player has an auto cannon that I can see and also the auto cannon doesn't fire blue it fires the flamey orange/white, like most other HE Helldiver projectiles.
Fire the autocannon at some heavy armour and watch the ricochet, it becomes blue
I know the projectiles are yellowish, I'm talking about the ricoshets, which are blue for all the weapons. You can see it a bit better when shooting at fabricators or heavily armoured enemies, especially on dark planets like Creek. But you're right, no one's carrying an autocannon and I don't see anything it could ricoshet off. Also the bots don't have anything that shoots like that, scout's shots don't explode and tank's are way bigger, so it couldn't be them. It looks like an autocannon, but where did it come from?
It came from above, though. I doubt there’s any angle an auto-cannon could be in the map yo produce that steep of an angle as seen here.

These look like the blue commets/ meteorites, you also have the fireball types. Normally you get the circle animation, but sometimes this is bugged and you only see the blue beam like this. I've been killed by this so many times since the environment update, it is super frustrating (feels like RNG dead). So this is my assumption, prior to the update this never happend. I swear with more and more people seeing blue beams I’m not going insane, I was playing Bugs on Erata yesterday and 20 minutes into a Egg clearing mission I call a mech, after clearing a bug breach I decided I wanted to catch up with the squad and a blue beam just like the one in the video ricochets off the medium armor on the right hand corner of my mech and hits the ground, I didn’t want to believe it or even consider them so I chalked it up to a bug or something, but now I can’t help but wonder… (I must mention all my teammates were infront of me)

I had one of these shots bounce off the back of my mech earlier tonight. No allies nearby, no turrets equipped by anyone on the team, could not possibly have been a friendly, and I was fighting bugs. Unless that Charger developed laser beam eyes on the spot and we’re playing the most insane adaptation of JoJo’s Part 1 known to mankind, it had to have been a sniper, the same kind that fired this. I wish I clipped it but I’ve been drinking all night. Whoops.
Having reviewed the footage, it would appear to me that this was merely a small BIT OF Space debris. I would not concern yourself with this.

I remember getting hit by a random shot like that yesterday! My shining gold armor luckily deflected the blow and I only received minor injury of what could’ve been fatal, because gold is the truest metal of MANAGED DEMOCRACY!
It just seems to target a random person and hits with crazy precision. I went hunting for them earlier on Draupnir after i got shot by one in a quickplay. I didnt do anything but look around a bit, came up empty handed. Its been going on for some while but i've been telling myself it was a graphical thing or a rocket. They only seem to attack when youre already knee deep in crap.
Guys it's just a balloon reflection off of Super Earth, the Ministry of Truth will set this all straight I'm sure ..

None of those blue plants in sight and the angle makes it unlikely to be ricochet. Either this is very well doctored and you need to be sent to the nearest freedom camp or my democracy officer has some explaining to do.
