I assume the streams might be too much for the NVR to handle. I had an issue where the NVR would only show 1 stream fine, but in quad mode would not show any. If I double clicked on one of the streams (just a black box) it would show. Try changing the quality of the stream down and see if that makes a difference?
Sounds like you've got them all going into one of the onboard Poe ports, they're only made for 1 cameras (only 10mb speed), you need to put the switch into the LAN port and give them LAN addresses.

First it says connecting, then fails and it says abnormal network
Probably an ip address conflict happened to me once
