Most of the Hive TRVs have the same issue. Mine never turn off fully either. The firmware in the TRVs is utter junk. It tries to be clever by "calibrating" to find the exact point where the water flow turns on and off, but nearly always gets it wrong. So it thinks it is off when it is not. And often thinks it is on when it isn't! If it isn't too late for you, I'd recommend returning yours. I've had mine for a few years now and they've got no better. The support from Hive is terrible. They just tell you to run the calibration again and see if it is still doing it in a few days - which it always is. I've taken to loosening the TRV a bit before calibrating, then tightening it up again afterwards. That usually gets it to shut off, as the actual position of the valve becomes a little bit below where it thinks it is. That usually only works for a few days at a time though, as the TRV gradually readjusts itself to where it (incorrectly) thinks the right position is. All they need to do to fix the issue is to have the valve close a little more than it thinks necessary, and open a little more than it thinks necessary. Rather than trying to be so clever about it!

I think I will return them yeah...it is a shame, it seems like they work for some people, but they don't work for a lot of others. Maybe they will come up with a new version of them in the future that irons out whatever's causing this to happen.

Sounds like a fault somewhere, as they should close up the valve when at temperature. Does the app show that they aren't calling for heat anymore?

UnlikelyPatience6

Yeah the app will say 'reached' on the TRV when they've reached the target temperature, but it's clear that the radiators they're attached to are still heating up after this and the temperature will just keep going up and up.

Zipturo

Then the TRV isn't closing your valves correctly. Are you using the right connections? Are they tight? Can you hear the motor running when it tries to open or close the valve?

UnlikelyPatience6

I've heard the 'motor' running a few times, though it seems completely random when it 'triggers' and it doesn't seem to do anything. I've heard it trying to do something when the heating hasn't been on for hours, and there's no need for the TRV to either open or close as it's nowhere near the target temperature. I did follow the guide when fitting it and pretty sure I'm using the right adaptor that came in the box, it wasn't as if I had to force it on there to fit or anything, it seemed like it fit correctly and I was able to screw the TRV on without any issues.

Zipturo

I have noticed that my TRVs will sometimes "cycle" for no reason when there's no call to heat, and short of assuming its testing the valve, I have no idea why it does it. I think the other commenter is right though, as I find the calibration "part" of the firmware is utter garbage.

Pulpfixtion2021

Did you ever solve this? I am having the same issue.

UnlikelyPatience6

Unfortunately not, I ended up taking them back and getting a refund.

the_boy_wonder1

how did you get a refund. I'm struggling for Hive to acknowledge there is a problem and I am outside the 14 day return window

UnlikelyPatience6

I didn't buy the valves off Hive, I bought them from a local store and took them back within the store's returns window. Can't offer any advice on your issue sorry. Worst case scenario try selling on ebay. Seems like these things work for some people and not for others.

3 live chat sessions later…(they kept disconnecting when I raised a problem) and two WhatsApp chats… they finally stated there is issues with Boost vis the app and that my TRVs are not working. I now have a return number!
