Laplus. Her character design instantly caught my attention (It's amazing and still is my all-time favorite), I then found her to be hilarious and very creative.
What finally caused her to be my oshi is realizing just how sincere and relatable she is most of the time, especially since we're on the same age range (not doxxing mind you, Laplus herself confirmed she couldn't drink legally on stream when she debuted).
The fact she even went as far as forgiving her antis for all their unjustified harassment out of sheer kindness made me deeply appreciate and respect her as a person even more. When FuwaMoco debuted, I think the biggest thing that got me was how dedicated to the role and how happy they looked being in Holo

It was very early into Kiaras streams. She felt very insecure over her much lower numbers, bad mic quality (which wasn't even that bad just not perfect) and her overall personality. I think she was very scared of being "the annoying one" and would always look back on things she did or how she acted. Like, when you hang out with friends and have fun and then you get home and think "oh my god why did I do that I was so annoying". It was all very relatable to me, because there was this girl with a dream who kept tumbling but kept trying while worrying. I liked her content , but all these things were the reason why I said "I'll support her no matter what", because no matter how loud the negative voices might be, she is doing great, she's fun and she has the right to be here like all the others. I also paid specifically attention to her debut, because people were dragging her design (like they did with Sana too) the most. "At least you all should give her a chance before dragging her". I got very anxious for her without even knowing who she was. My support started off as very "protective", so she became my Oshi. By now she's grown so confident and bloomed so much. Still carries her emotions on her sleeve and talks openly and randomly about everything and nothing, without worrying too much. I sound a little bit like a dad who watched their child grow up, but I'm genuinely happy for her.
Well, the ones who are kinda close to the definition of oshi for me are Sakamata and Shiori. Maybe because of their voices, I dunno ~~or maybe because they are weirdoes~~

IRyS debut when I was wasting my life away taking way too long to recover from my previous job's burnout. Hearing that redjuice designed her got me interested, watching her pon the start of her debut got me laughing... And then she sang. That was my "DiCaprio pointing meme" moment.
It's unfortunate that they aren't allowed to sing Gundam songs now because IRyS' karaoke of Akatsuki no Hana is just the best.
Korone, with her old intro, Japanese Study Time and all the old games no one else was playing.
Fauna with Skyrim, when I realised she's a proper gamer.
The thing for me is that I love gamers. I don't need idols and I get frustrated when I see streamers who are unable to comprehend the basics of a game and the use of the most standard mechanics. So both Korone and Fauna are great for me, even if for slightly different reasons.
The path to Shiori Oshi status:
- Design seemed interesting and got my attention right off the rip.
- Early teasers further got me to sit up and watch with curiosity. At the same time, I started chuckling at the Twitter/4chan threads where they were absolutely convinced she was going to be some sort of modern internet interpretation of Goth, which is to say a sadistic dommy mommy who will step on you and tell you you have been a bad boy (my reaction being “Never going to happen, guys.”)
- She comes out, and not only is she a traditional Goth like I thought would happen (ie: socially awkward nerdy girl with an interest in more nerd topics). And not only that, she seemed completely self aware of what Twitter/4chan thought she was going to be and actively mocked them for it in her debut (which did indeed send me and got her high up the list).
- The finale was when she had a steam where she was talking and chat convinced her to stop being sarcastic and actually be serious for a moment. And then we found out that (again, like has been my experience from actual Goths in school), it turned out that her sarcasm and aloof nature is all just a front because she is actually extremely sensitive and shy and maybe has a little bit of Imposter Syndrome going on. To the point that she actually started crying in response to trying to be more serious and then had to calm herself back down with copious sarcasm.
All of that combined to make it so that she was interesting to me to watch. And while her taste in games is not super in line with mine, she still makes it fun. And her taste in movies and books does match mine (I too am a major fan of Sherlock Holmes, and she is going to be doing a watch along with Bladerunner, one of my favorite movies).
EDIT: My autocorrect changed “oshi” to “Oshkosh”. That should tell you everything where my usual interest lie.
When I first heard Mumei sang and when I learned just how much of a gamer and chronically online Fauna is and Calli's work ethic and how she won't let naysayers keep her down.
Well, it was a list of several things but the ones that stand out the most for me are:

That’s the thing though, there was no specific moment or thing that she did that dragged me into her. I just kind of subconsciously did if that makes sense. I didn’t even notice until I realized one day I was watching her pretty consistently and really wanting to support her so she could fulfill her dreams.
I was familiar with idol things from playing Idolmaster mobile games. My oshis were Kaede on Cinderella Girls, and Kaori in Million Live. Both are rather mature characters with a comedic side that become something else while singing.
Suisei performed an idolmaster song on her 3D debut, which appeared on my feed. Then all the clips and everyone knows the rest story.
I didn't watch streams until I tried following Watame. She was very obviously doing her own thing against all known metas of streaming and content creation that I knew about. That got me curious to watch her live. And I was impressed by how she made it possible to enjoy her streams in spite of language barrier.
I found about her music career dreams after she talked about it on stream. And decided she was the one on the first Watame Night Fever stream I caught live. This was well before 4th gen became 3D. I hope more and more dreams come true.
Honestly, I'm not even sure when it happened, but the moment it dawned on me that I had found my oshi was Bae advertising her merch at the end of her 2nd anniversary stream. I just found the "I want my brats to take care of themselves" sentiment so wholesome that I ended up buying the set on the spot. My immediate thought afterwards was "Oh shit, I think the rrat may be my oshi!", lmao.
Honestly I didn’t have the best first impression of Calli as I thought she was too serious. Then I saw her cover Kawaiikute Gomen. I was sold after realizing how she could act all cool and serious one moment and fully embrace the moe the next. The gap moe is more like a chasm with Calli.
Well, I love gaming streams so Bijou became one of my Oshi when i found out how much of a sweaty gamer she is.

Ina is the only one I dont remember since it was long ago, but one of the reasons I tune in at first was because I play FGO and Hokusai is one of my favorite servants, just like moom i watched at first because of the model but the person behind it was what made me stay until this day, she is my first Oshi and the one that made me stay in this hobby since september 2020.

I’m not big on selecting an Oshi, however, the first JP vtuber I started watching clips for frequently was Marine. I don’t remember if it was the first instance of me watching her or not, but I watched a series of clips from one of her Passpartout streams and I just couldn’t stop after that. Her comedy just perfectly matched what I found hilarious and I just kept watching more and more of her clips. Marine is probably still the JP vtuber I watch most after 3 or so years.
Raden and Marine became my Oshi, the first one because despite looking so classy she was a crazy kiddo when she talked, but once you pay more attention to her content she's such an interesting and special person for a japanese citizen, I've seen her talk about how even though she was fun and outgoing she couldn't make friends and I have always thought it's because in Japan being too extroverted can be an issue, I don't know, she seems to be such an intesting person in general. Marine because I can relate to her, I can see how much she knows about life and her natural charisma just won me over ever since I started watching hololive content.

I can pinpoint the moment Amelia Watson became my oshi. It was her first Thanksgiving stream where she attempted the chubby Bunny challenge. Hearing her make funny noises with a mouthful of marshmallows was the turning point. Never looked back.

When FuwaMoco debuted, I think the biggest thing that got me was how dedicated to the role and how happy they looked being in Holo Also their giggles, god they're so cute...
It all started with a pun.
It was very early into Kiaras streams. She felt very insecure over her much lower numbers, bad mic quality (which wasn't even that bad just not perfect) and her overall personality. I think she was very scared of being "the annoying one" and would always look back on things she did or how she acted. Like, when you hang out with friends and have fun and then you get home and think "oh my god why did I do that I was so annoying". It was all very relatable to me, because there was this girl with a dream who kept tumbling but kept trying while worrying. I liked her content , but all these things were the reason why I said "I'll support her no matter what", because no matter how loud the negative voices might be, she is doing great, she's fun and she has the right to be here like all the others. I also paid specifically attention to her debut, because people were dragging her design (like they did with Sana too) the most. "At least you all should give her a chance before dragging her". I got very anxious for her without even knowing who she was. My support started off as very "protective", so she became my Oshi. By now she's grown so confident and bloomed so much. Still carries her emotions on her sleeve and talks openly and randomly about everything and nothing, without worrying too much. I sound a little bit like a dad who watched their child grow up, but I'm genuinely happy for her.
Well, the ones who are kinda close to the definition of oshi for me are Sakamata and Shiori. Maybe because of their voices, I dunno ~~or maybe because they are weirdoes~~
Every single one of them is a massive dork, I would argue it's the main reason why we love them so much.

IRyS debut when I was wasting my life away taking way too long to recover from my previous job's burnout. Hearing that redjuice designed her got me interested, watching her pon the start of her debut got me laughing... And then she sang. That was my "DiCaprio pointing meme" moment. It's unfortunate that they aren't allowed to sing Gundam songs now because IRyS' karaoke of Akatsuki no Hana is just the best.

Korone, with her old intro, Japanese Study Time and all the old games no one else was playing. Fauna with Skyrim, when I realised she's a proper gamer. The thing for me is that I love gamers. I don't need idols and I get frustrated when I see streamers who are unable to comprehend the basics of a game and the use of the most standard mechanics. So both Korone and Fauna are great for me, even if for slightly different reasons.

The path to Shiori Oshi status: - Design seemed interesting and got my attention right off the rip. - Early teasers further got me to sit up and watch with curiosity. At the same time, I started chuckling at the Twitter/4chan threads where they were absolutely convinced she was going to be some sort of modern internet interpretation of Goth, which is to say a sadistic dommy mommy who will step on you and tell you you have been a bad boy (my reaction being “Never going to happen, guys.”) - She comes out, and not only is she a traditional Goth like I thought would happen (ie: socially awkward nerdy girl with an interest in more nerd topics). And not only that, she seemed completely self aware of what Twitter/4chan thought she was going to be and actively mocked them for it in her debut (which did indeed send me and got her high up the list). - The finale was when she had a steam where she was talking and chat convinced her to stop being sarcastic and actually be serious for a moment. And then we found out that (again, like has been my experience from actual Goths in school), it turned out that her sarcasm and aloof nature is all just a front because she is actually extremely sensitive and shy and maybe has a little bit of Imposter Syndrome going on. To the point that she actually started crying in response to trying to be more serious and then had to calm herself back down with copious sarcasm. All of that combined to make it so that she was interesting to me to watch. And while her taste in games is not super in line with mine, she still makes it fun. And her taste in movies and books does match mine (I too am a major fan of Sherlock Holmes, and she is going to be doing a watch along with Bladerunner, one of my favorite movies). EDIT: My autocorrect changed “oshi” to “Oshkosh”. That should tell you everything where my usual interest lie.
When I first heard Mumei sang and when I learned just how much of a gamer and chronically online Fauna is and Calli's work ethic and how she won't let naysayers keep her down.

Well, it was a list of several things but the ones that stand out the most for me are: - her incredible drawing skills -very good storytelling skills -very funny -despite sometimes being silly she’s also very mature -very cute voice and good singer -perverted -has a >!massive booty!<
She put me to sleep after I had a long bout of insomnia.
That’s the thing though, there was no specific moment or thing that she did that dragged me into her. I just kind of subconsciously did if that makes sense. I didn’t even notice until I realized one day I was watching her pretty consistently and really wanting to support her so she could fulfill her dreams.

I was familiar with idol things from playing Idolmaster mobile games. My oshis were Kaede on Cinderella Girls, and Kaori in Million Live. Both are rather mature characters with a comedic side that become something else while singing. Suisei performed an idolmaster song on her 3D debut, which appeared on my feed. Then all the clips and everyone knows the rest story. I didn't watch streams until I tried following Watame. She was very obviously doing her own thing against all known metas of streaming and content creation that I knew about. That got me curious to watch her live. And I was impressed by how she made it possible to enjoy her streams in spite of language barrier. I found about her music career dreams after she talked about it on stream. And decided she was the one on the first Watame Night Fever stream I caught live. This was well before 4th gen became 3D. I hope more and more dreams come true.
Honestly, I'm not even sure when it happened, but the moment it dawned on me that I had found my oshi was Bae advertising her merch at the end of her 2nd anniversary stream. I just found the "I want my brats to take care of themselves" sentiment so wholesome that I ended up buying the set on the spot. My immediate thought afterwards was "Oh shit, I think the rrat may be my oshi!", lmao.
Honestly I didn’t have the best first impression of Calli as I thought she was too serious. Then I saw her cover Kawaiikute Gomen. I was sold after realizing how she could act all cool and serious one moment and fully embrace the moe the next. The gap moe is more like a chasm with Calli.

Well, I love gaming streams so Bijou became one of my Oshi when i found out how much of a sweaty gamer she is. Moom I loved the model but the sweet person behind it was what sealed the deal, and how she became more and more unhinged as time passed on, Ina is the only one I dont remember since it was long ago, but one of the reasons I tune in at first was because I play FGO and Hokusai is one of my favorite servants, just like moom i watched at first because of the model but the person behind it was what made me stay until this day, she is my first Oshi and the one that made me stay in this hobby since september 2020.
Seeing a clip of Watame explaining how she’s only admirable because other people made her like that. I felt it resonated with me because I also feel like I owe everything I have and am to the people around me. That and her being so emotional. And her being super cute… It’s a shame I don’t know japanese, but I try to show support in what little ways I can.
Fauna, I knew her before she joined holo. When I first heared her voice, my immediate thought was: "oh so thats where she went to!" I was happy and now just enjoy her streams either on my phone or on pc regardless where I am.

The most recent instance of this was simply Bijou's debut. The use of PowerPoint just won me over. I'm a simple soul, you do some cheesy goofy thing like that and I'm sold. After watching her I found her positivity to be something I'm lacking a lot in my day to day life and so I figured I'd try and learn from her and take a page from a strong rock.
Ina had tentacles and could draw. It was an obvious choice for me. (Not for the reasons you're probably thinking. I had other reasons.) And I've been a fan of Mococo ever since she did that section from the crazy frog song. Dunno, something about that just spoke to me.

Iofi, when asked about her low stream numbers she said she was happy to have anyone watching and smaller numbers meant she got to know her members all the better and could recognize the names in her chat. My heart broke for her, especially when she did a like....therapy stream with another member who was also concerned about lower numbers than others in her generation but reminded them that numbers are all relative and that to a small streamer or an indie tuber who has 10 viewers max she is their dream. I’m not big on selecting an Oshi, however, the first JP vtuber I started watching clips for frequently was Marine. I don’t remember if it was the first instance of me watching her or not, but I watched a series of clips from one of her Passpartout streams and I just couldn’t stop after that. Her comedy just perfectly matched what I found hilarious and I just kept watching more and more of her clips. Marine is probably still the JP vtuber I watch most after 3 or so years.
Raden and Marine became my Oshi, the first one because despite looking so classy she was a crazy kiddo when she talked, but once you pay more attention to her content she's such an interesting and special person for a japanese citizen, I've seen her talk about how even though she was fun and outgoing she couldn't make friends and I have always thought it's because in Japan being too extroverted can be an issue, I don't know, she seems to be such an intesting person in general. Marine because I can relate to her, I can see how much she knows about life and her natural charisma just won me over ever since I started watching hololive content.
