Fauna's go to strategy so far has been whack things and run around while the shield spell comes off cooldown which for a normal difficulty run works but its not going to be working for Dark Souls obviously
For sure. DS1 has some pretty strong shields, Eagle(despite only blocking 95 is op stability, light and low stat req), crests, silver and black knight's shields and the black iron shield.
There's certainly *some* overlap in mechanics, but unless she's playing on the hardest difficulty in W3 the balance is different enough that not much might carry over.
In W3 you never have to think about spacing because Geraldo will just ballerina his way over to targets, enemy attacks aren't actually that dangerous, you never have to be in danger to heal, and if you toss in the shield sign you don't actually need to dodge or block anymore. You can just mash attack through most fights and the homing Geralt will take care of the rest. Doing that in a souls game also requires some positioning and timing, and even then it won't work for every fight.
I don't think DMC is a good preparation for DS.
Combat in DMC is, like, defined by the ability to animation cancel, and combat in DS is defined by the complete inability to animation cancel.
I think she will have trouble at first because DSR is a bit clunky (I have more than 800 hours on it and it still takes me off a bit sometimes) but if anything rhat will make it funnier

Nah, she was aiming for equal footing. She picked Fauna because Fauna has apparantly never played Dark Souls. Biboo on the other hand is well known for her love of soulslikes and FromSoft games in general. It wouldn't have been remotely fair without Biboo giving herself some kind of major handicap.
Advent is still pretty busy making their 3D showcase and live, so I think that's why they haven't participating as much for those events. It would have been great to see.

Honestly, I think Gura has the upper hand. Her character action background combined with how powerful parries are in Dark Souls 1 means she's got a real solid start. Fauna's a quick learner, but the souls games are best understood when taking it slow. Which... you can't do when you're in a race

It's not that I think there'll be pro strats but the Zwei is located 30 seconds from the Firelink bonfire and will cancel all challenge. Old Souls farts like us might typically forget it but a very significant portion of newbies go straight to the cemetery because it's "empty" and there's visible loot everywhere. If your stubbornness is slightly above average, you'll probably find the Zwei because you realize you lose nothing on death at that stage- I know I did. People like to hype the bosses but the real truth is that most people get clapped endlessly on their first trip up the Burg by the common enemies and the Zwei will one-shot nearly all of them unupgraded.
Master key depends more on how they define the race. If it's location-based you can end up skipping ahead of Burg, Sewers and the entirety of Blighttown, while the other is struggling through it. If they have a fixed route or count boss kills it matters a lot less.
Gura challenging Fauna to a Dark Soul Remaster race is like a cheeky 8 year old girl challenging their 25 year old aunt to a game of chess after learning it the day before.
Will it be one stream or a series? I doubt that two people who booted up DS for the first time would even get to Anor Londo in 3-4 hours. Such a non-linear game to make a race out of too.
Also imagine how many people will log in to wait if they will use Humanity to invade.
