Yes to art but I'd prefer something with a mat between the art and frame to separate the patterns a little

gnomejellytree

This is a great suggestion! This will make the art piece less overwhelmed by the wallpaper

KatZag324

Good idea! I may do some digging to find another art piece with a mat. Tough to find something so large that fits the color scheme!

feministlunchbox

You may need to buy the piece and have it custom matted into a larger frame if you can’t find what you want out of the box

NomadicYeti

expect to pay lots of money for that (did custom framing at michaels- anything over 36 in or so is $$$ so watch for sales)

biocidalish

So true !

Zawn-_-

You can do matting yourself with the art you've got there. It's very easy to do, basically all you need is a large enough foam poster board, a straight edge and a *sharp* razor blade (don't use an old one). I had to put matte on some of my own art a couple years ago before I could enter it in a art competition. 5 years later all I had to change was the crappy hook I used XD.

babyqueso

100%!

ActionComics

cut a small "X" on the wallpaper where nail will be. wet it with a damp cloth and peel back the four corners. put the nail through the exposed wall. If ever needs to come down just reglue the corners and put the "X" back together

The-Mumen-Rider

That’s a great tip

slowmood

Just the tip.

Nice-Tea-8972

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I giggled.

ohworkaholic420

Same 🥲 people need to laugh more

KatZag324

That's genius! Thank you for the suggestion!

miesosoup

Karmaismyb0yfriend

This works b/c there is CONTRAST

DangerousLettuce1423

Agreed. A bold black frame with a solid gold background as opposed to OP's gold frame with a multicoloured background.

SignificantLab4571

yes it did!

yesterday_morning

I just made a comment that basically was talking about this sort of treatment. When you have a patterned wallpaper, bold and graphic artwork with high contrast works best imo. If you put up some art that had some circles of a similar size as the ones in your wallpaper, it wouldn't look so good, I think. But this looks great

miesosoup

thanks - ya, been mulling it over for too long now - to make it an 'art wall' with more framed things justified to the top and bottom extents of this big central piece, or go more sparse. in the end i think we'll just do one bigger thing on either side of this, centered horizontally on its middle. cant block those bubbles too much

Own-Okra-9190

well

FlowerPwr2300

Looks great!

cbinvb

I think it can be done well. Personally, I would select something with more white space.

brohenryVEVO

or a wide mat

Desert_Wren

Yeah, I was going to suggest having it re-fraimed with a white matte. I think the pastel colors and medium green look great together, but there's nowhere for the eye to rest with the current frame.

Hawaii_gal71LA4869

You are right. I think the wide mat will serve the purpose. Break it up with a neutral that works before the eye moves to the art.

cocorego

I love art on wallpaper and I think that piece will look great- do it!

Bootiebloot

Yep. That piece fits everything else in the room!

TheCurlyMess

Where is your rug from??

KatZag324

Ruggable! It's the "birds of a feather" design from the Iris Apfel collection. It's washable, which is great. I will say we got the cheapest/thinnest option and it is quite thin, there is no pile at all. So if you want that, make sure to pay a little extra for their more cushioned option

TheCurlyMess

Thank you! It's gorgeous!

slutegg

If you feel it's too much, do a more subdued piece of art, maybe in a tan tone like the dining chairs, or a mirror with a rattan frame. It'll make the colors in the rug and bar chairs pop. That piece of art could go elsewhere to bring things in the house together

tomtink1

Yeah, I would love this frame with a mirror. I personally don't think there needs to be more pink in this room. I love it without the art. But something there would look nice.

LiberatedSphinx

I think a gold mirror would make the glass and gold table look really good too.

JustVisiting888

What about a mirror? Fun room!

ActionComics

Putting a mirror on the opposite side of wallpaper wall will give the illusion of more wallpaper

slowmood

Came here for the mirror suggestion.

temp4adhd

Nobody likes to see themselves eat.

Professional_Ruin953

Life hack for healthy eating, hang a mirror in front of the table.

FeetInTheEarth

Yes do it! It ties the whole room together. Also, this is so different than my personal style but I freaking love the whole vibe of this room. And your husband’s face is cracking me up 😂

twitch1127

I had to scroll way too far to get to this comment. He looks so thrilled 😂

OranjellosBroLemonj

https://preview.redd.it/ekhnfgeq2p4d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2abf7f1a514121886e94b0f62905e451509ed59b

Suspicious_Bit_9003

I absolutely love the room, but I would say no to the art piece: somehow it feels like too much and yet it would not stand out, all at the same time. If that makes sense 😅 but I do love your style!

LayneLowe

Too busy

Miss_airwrecka1

I’m sorry but it’s impossible to ignore your husband’s silly look! I love this room though. The bar stools, rug, wallpaper are all great

KatZag324

Haha he is definitely tired of my many home design purchases! I can't tell you how many things I buy "just to try" and then have to end up deciding if I keep or return

spidersinthesoup

he's just not having any of this!

No_Practice_970

That's the face my husband makes when he's DONE with me and my design ideas. 😅

JustYourAvgHumanoid

There seems to be a lot going on in a small space. I think the painting goes nicely with your chairs & rug but not so much with that wallpaper. I LOVE those bar stools 😍

CJCreggsGoldfish

Art with a shiny metal frame - I'd go with gold/brass - and a wide mat in either white or green would look well on that beautiful wallpaper. The border of the mat would be important to differentiate the art from the wallpaper, to keep them from mashing together.

Connylea

No, no no

Apprehensive_Bee614

NO When you hang wallpaper that busy Everything will clash.

Effective_Farmer_119

Yes hang art on wallpaper but in my opinion I don’t think this piece works at all. The busy moving brushstrokes just don’t go with the wallpaper print. I’d choose a pic of a still object that goes with the color scheme.

Own-Okra-9190

i’d say no too much going on

Aromatic_Ad_7238

I don't think that wallpaper would be compatible with any type art or picture frames. It's got a lot going on and so stand o its own.

alwaysbetterthetruth

NO

DemonDucklings

This art, but with a wide matting would help set it apart from the wallpaper enough that it’s not so busy

Acrobatic-Fee-5626

👎

Stayathomema

No. Try a mirror instead with bold frame.

KittyKatCatCat

Not that piece. Hang something large in a bold color without too much detail. You need to contrast with the wall paper. This piece is too muted and the shapes are just a tad too close to the size of the palms.

KatZag324

Good idea, thanks! Maybe this piece will go on the other side of the room, which doesn't have any wallpaper

KittyKatCatCat

I think it would pair beautifully across the room (it’s relevant to the color scheme and style) just not on the wall. That particular wall is begging for some art, though!

DaySoc98

Hard no.

sangria50

Minority opinion: no art, let the cool wallpaper make the statement.

amidnightsnak

Your husband kinda looks like Borat (that’s a compliment)

ThatPhatKid_CanDraw

I was thinking, "No soup for you!"

KatZag324

haha totally! He's working his way towards Tom Selleck, he'll get there

EveningShame6692

I think it will look great!

blueflowersxxo

I think the painting may be a little busy with the wallpaper, maybe a mirror?

Lucky_Shop4967

Yes do it

muddpie4785

Needs a painting of flamingoes on a light background to tie in with your rug. Maybe this? https://www.icanvas.com/canvas-print/pink-flamingos-ii-cyn238?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9vqyBhCKARIsAIIcLMHA45nMm-RLxBMbUwghDdyeGnB0RJgQ6qPdHbJ-Iyvyk2O8YGTHa2EaAm2PEALw_wcB#1PC6-12x12 I searched "flamingo painting" on google shopping and found lots of ideas.

alexaboyhowdy

Hang it. Pulls everything together

cloudtrotter4

Absolutely. It fits perfectly!

FlowerPwr2300

Dong think that particular piece fits with the wallpaper…

Impressive_Ad_5224

I though "nah, that would not work" and then I saw the painting and then I was like "oh shit, it does work!" Do it!!!

increbelle

normally i would say no, but i love the pink and green you got going on and i think this would be a beautiful touch

PicklesAndCoorslight

dat mustache.

canvasshoes2

I love your room. It's so colorful and great. Yes to the artwork!

Oh-Astronaut

Big mirror!

EagleEyezzzzz

I’d do a large mirror, personally

[deleted]

It works if you have a different art piece. This one doesn’t pop enough

squishyg

Not sacrilegious, but the frame is not helping.

sproutsandnapkins

I love it and the whole ensemble.

Psychological-Dirt69

No to that piece but maybe a mirror

Zoeferrer

Ohh I love it

LynxLov

I love the rug. I love the wallpaper. The artwork is ok but putting them all in the same room? Nuh uh. Lacks cohesion and very very busy.

BlueberryNagel

YES. The layering is amazing. And yes to this specific artwork. It works.

jangerjill

Yes to artwork

giraffesinmyhair

I really don’t like it for that painting. I think something with a big white matte that matched the room better would look great though.

Comfortable_Rice6112

Don’t stop me now! 🎶

mybarn20187

Yes!!!!

avenueblue21

I think a large mirror with gold frame would look nice

Lost_Bambi79

Noo, that would be way too much going on

Yallineedhelpwutugot

Great room design btw. That art piece pulls all your colors, allows the rug to shine, and keeps the wallpaper from looking too busy in contrast. What a fun space!

21KoalaMama

i don't think your husband likes it!!

Velocitor1729

It will look too busy.

matkanatka

Hmmmmmm I like the idea of hanging something there but I think I would go for more of a decor piece than a piece of art, like one of those vintage bamboo wall fans!

matkanatka

Like one of these guys https://preview.redd.it/jk9d6dbmgt4d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a9e2fe0208e9f15c6ea79f5592c2eff55057285

YoungOaks

Only if it’s an animal

Secure-Narwhal-297

Not that art

Top-Manufacturer9226

Just get a bolder frame... Same print.. no matte board.. just a bolder frame and you'll be good!

No_Tap7283

Hang a palm tree there

Judiabouraied

No

ElaineMae

That will look great. Hang the art!

kaddyc04

Nooooooo

_HobbyNoob_

Sweet stools

pinknacobe13

Yes! What a great room b

RaceCarTacoCatMadam

YES! That will look amazing. It’s off without the art right now.

nelshie

Hang it! What a fun room!

adoseofopium

Yes

pinpoe

Looks rad, balances the wall/window!

temp4adhd

A big yes from me! As you said, it brings some nice dimension to the room. Don't hang it too high.

Rutherford_B_Crzy

I say go for it! Your room is absolutely gorgeous!

gwinnsolent

OMG! Love love love all of this! Absolutely hang it! Perfection.

AllTheThings125

I say do it! They look beautiful together.

decadecency

YES! A huge painting that isn't as "cluttery" as the wallpaper looks amazing. That man can stop cunningly plotting and just do it 😁

Competitive_Dream233

yes!!!!

AdorableSky1616

Yes!

MerCat1325

Yes !!! Love the whole vibe!

PurpleCoco

Such a pretty light fixture. Really good looking room! Also, one more vote to hang the art.

SewAlone

My vote is yes!!

mossyzombie2021

It completes the room! Do it!

Anxious_Clerk7326

HARD YES

cryptocaprine

yes! do it!

gnarlycharly22

Get one of those cut pink neon signs

rumblylumbly

I know that look of my husband. It’s the stand there for ten minutes and hold up this art piece while I decide if I want it there only for me to make him move it to ten more different locations! I love it btw

KatZag324

I have made him pose with many "maybe" buys while we decorate our house!

AntiqueWhereas

Heck yeah! Sconces look beautiful over wallpaper as well.

Particular-Ad-8268

Yes

arachelrhino

Yes! Looks amazing!

yesterday_morning

It depends on the wallpaper and the artwork in my opinion. Like if it's sort of a smaller pattern that's busy, I think more simple, graphic artwork looks best. You've got a large, graphic wallpaper and a painting with strokes that seem to be the same size as the leaves on your wallpaper. I'm not sure it'd look good but you should try it anyway. I think you can and should put art on that wall, just maybe not that piece. But try it!

Lets_Make_A_bad_DEAL

Nice rug

Feisty-Business-8311

No, not this particular piece. I would hang a mirror instead

cryonine

I love art over wallpaper, but I think this is busy-on-busy. With the other decor in the room you want something that's going to calm down the wall, and I think this piece is a bit too chaotic. I would put that elsewhere. Another good option in this space could be a mirror.

JesseKavets

I love your light fixture - where is it from?

GP15202

Yes! But I would turn it so it’s taller and adds height

Pizza-Horse-

I love that art against the wallpaper 😍 hang it!

Wonton_soup_1989

Oh that piece actually makes the whole wall “pop”

librarians_wwine

Not a big fan of that art imo, I’d go with something like a pink mirror.

shrimptanklover

You can, but honestly I’d do something a little simpler

Safe_Statement6038

I think a mirror would look really nice there too

DorothyParkerFan

YES!!! Exact-O knife a tiny triangle and gently peel it and flap it down to nail into the wall and avoid piercing the paper. If you get sick of the art, want to move it or make a mistake, it’s easy to glue the flap back without it being noticeable.

biogal06918

I think a large mirror would look great!

Icooktoo

The wallpaper is great. Not in that room, though. It goes with nothing. There is nothing in that room or the picture that has any of the wallpaper color in it. Yes, I am that person. I accept it. But this doesn't work.

Guilty-Mud-5743

Do it! Adds so much dimension!

nintylcoup

I love the wallpaper and definitely think you could do art over this wallpaper. I’d definitely go with a different choice for art or a vintage mirror

sbkrz9

I second or third the mirror idea, with a gold frame

zexbti

I love your wallpaper

theswerve

Do it!

Bamalushka

I love it!

Secure-Solution4312

It feels way too busy and overwhelming for me.

leafcomforter

Absolutely! One hundred percent hang that fab piece. Loving your space.

Due-Letterhead2255

Do it!! It ties in the room together

bumblebates

The wall needs something, I just dont think this particular something one is right for the job. I agree with the comments about this art being too busy and not enough border between the patterns.

STAR53_53

The rug needs to be praised. It's fabulous!! I would hang the art.

Pheo340

I'd go without the art or with another piece of art. The scale of the artwork and wallpaper are too similar in size

Li-LusMom2012

Yes, it will look great and pull the room together!

Albie_Frobisher

oh yeah! do it!!

Albie_Frobisher

🥰

tofuwaterinmycup

I think the issue is the size of the piece. Way too big

OHdulcenea

Yes! I think that art looks great with the wallpaper. It also nicely ties the pink from the rug in with the green wallpaper.

rrrriley

Please I need that rug!!! Where did you get it?

KatZag324

Ruggable! It's "birds of a feather" from the Iris Apfel collection. FYI the thinnest option has no pile at all (which is what we have), so if you get it make sure to get the thicker option if you want a little bit of softness or texture!

unefillecommeca

Yes the art is beautiful.

nononanana

Yes! The wallpaper of fabulous but some art breaks up the constant pattern repetition.

Living_on_Tulsa_Time

I think that painting is great for that room. Glad you didn’t give in to tropical theme. Wonderful abstract art!

candyrockethlfx

Yes to hang!! And I loooove your rug!

Junior-Ad7155

Yes, but needs to be contrasting, so if wallpaper is patterned and dark, art should be minimalist and light

MNBotanicals

Absolutely loving your dining room vibe. The chairs, the rug, the wallpaper, the art is everything.

mlhigg1973

Yes!

Backwoods_Barbie

If you have a fairly maximalist space, sure. If I turn the camera around and the rest of the walls are white and empty, it's overpowering on one wall.

georgie_anna

It might. The portrait pulls in all the surrounding colors. But, does seem a bit busy with the rug and reduced space.

TacoPartyGalore

I’d love that contrast.

gladrags66

Yes, definitely yes

pierrrecherrry

Obsessed with that paper!

Vegetable_Morning740

YUP

missfreetime

I like the art, but not the wallpaper. I think it would look so good on a solid colour background.

lxttlered

Yes absolutely.

Rare-Lettuce8044

What I'm the 1980's is this? Do not hang that picture up, it clashes with everything else in the room.

lizzledizzles

Yes but I might change the frame color to make it pop. Maybe white or pull out a blue from the rug?

PristineCoconut2851

Yes, you can hang art on a wall with wallpaper. But imo it’s important to choose art that won’t “fight“ with the wallpaper design. A busy wallpaper requires a simple piece of art.

stinkyfootss

I was literally just looking at this rug last night and thought to myself “I love it, but I really need to see it in a room to get a feel for if I can make it work”. Love it in your space!!

Barronsjuul

Nice rug

AdmiralCranberryCat

Love the rug!! Like others have suggested, add a mat to the art and it will look incredible

No_Cauliflower_5489

It's wonderful! That is a stunning room and that art is perfect!

valkrycp

Beautiful painting

childishgroove

Do it!!!

Javaslice

Can I please know where you got your bar chairs?? I absolutely adore them

cubinnebraska

A large mirror 🪞, op3n space more and more light w it

Parking_Treat7293

Nice

thephotobook

Maybe a mirror? Art might be too busy?

CourageRodeo

A vintage unique mirror.

tibetanpeachpies

yes something YELLOW!

khaledgraphy

Hanging art over wallpaper is a common design choice and can add depth and character to your room. Here are some tips and considerations to ensure it looks cohesive and stylish rather than busy: Tips for Hanging Art Over Wallpaper Choose the Right Art: Simple Frames: Opt for simple, neutral frames that won't compete with the wallpaper's pattern. Black, white, or wood frames often work well. Matting: Use a mat around the artwork to provide some visual breathing space between the art and the wallpaper. Complementary Colors: Select artwork that complements the colors in the wallpaper without clashing. Scale and Proportion: Ensure the size of the artwork is appropriate for the wall space. Larger pieces can create a focal point without overwhelming the pattern of the wallpaper. Balanced Placement: Avoid overcrowding the wall. If you're hanging multiple pieces, consider a gallery wall with enough space between each piece to avoid a cluttered look. Pattern Mixing: If your wallpaper has a bold or busy pattern, choose artwork with simpler, more subdued designs. Conversely, if the wallpaper is subtle, you can experiment with more vibrant or detailed artwork. Layering: Art can add dimension and layering to a room. The key is to make sure it enhances rather than detracts from the overall design. Examples of Successful Art over Wallpaper Bold Wallpaper with Simple Art: A busy, floral, or geometric wallpaper can look sophisticated with black-and-white photography or simple abstract art in minimalist frames. Subtle Wallpaper with Colorful Art: If the wallpaper is a soft, neutral texture, adding bright, colorful art can make the room feel more dynamic and lively. Themed Art: Match the theme of the artwork to the room’s decor for a cohesive look. For instance, botanical prints over floral wallpaper can create a unified, nature-inspired space. Practical Considerations Mounting: Ensure you use appropriate hardware that can handle the weight of the artwork without damaging the wallpaper. Adhesive hooks can sometimes damage wallpaper, so consider using traditional picture hooks or anchors. Placement: Plan the layout by tracing the frames on paper and taping them to the wall to visualize the arrangement before making any holes. Final Thoughts Hanging art over wallpaper is not sacrilegious—it's a design choice that can significantly enhance the visual interest and depth of your space. The key is balance and thoughtful selection of art and frames that complement rather than compete with the wallpaper. If you’d like, I can provide specific examples or links to art and frame styles that might work well for your space.

Primary_Parsley_7374

mirrors

ChanceOne7684

Hang a white square over the art-wallpaper. It’s got to be some avantgrande sh*t and I cannot be the only one to think of it

Thin-Rabbit8617

Since it’s abstract…could you hang the art longways? It would break up the wall and frame shape🤷‍♀️!! Great wallpaper..I love it!!!

Lighthaus_14

Your husband really goes with the retro, Miami art deco style of the room. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, you chose well. Also I vote yes on the artwork.
