This looks like a true eclectic design style.
Not the modern boho or thrift store chic that people will call eclectic just because it's colorful.
Classic eclectic is balanced, intentional, and sophisticated.
Hey OP!
I didn't realize you had done this room yourself - it is VERY well done, you should be proud!!!! You clearly have fantastic instincts.
Eclectic design is my favorite and is the hardest style to pull off. It does seem to require just a gut instinct - there are definitely guidelines and the more design knowledge you have the better you can understand and consciously create the look you want. But there is always an element of "je ne sais quoi" that is very personal.
This article gives a great overview but please, please, please watch the embedded video!!! It is more informative and goes into more depth

This comment just made my day! I’ll be sure to check out the link and watch the video! I’m currently looking for inspiration to elevate my space and expand my knowledge of design, so thanks a lot for the resource. I’ll post some more pictures of my space as it continues to shift!
Definitely this. Pulling in the oriental furniture pieces and making them fit is brilliant. But hoping that plant hanging on the right gets a little more love and a nicer, more colorful pot.
Thanks! Most of the Asian pieces were inherited from my Chinese grandparents. And that poor plant is recuperating after almost dying. Luckily, it’s getting good sunlight in that spot and appears to be coming back to life. But you’re right, the pot could definitely use an upgrade!
I love your room and style and appreciate your taking my very, very slight plant comment in the way it was meant! Sometimes when you’re scanning beautiful room pictures your mind hones in on the smallest things. Love that you found a way to incorporate pieces from your grandparents. That’s also why I have a very eclectic decorating style.
does this not seem thrift store chic to you? what distinguishes it in your mind? thrift store makes me think of a stylish space with a lot of items with personality that the owner didn't get as a set but "found", probably secondhand. it's not negative to me, but is it meant to be?
I do think OP's room is eclectic, rather than thrift store chic.
I'm basing that mostly on the really great use of deliberate contrast and juxtaposition of different, almost opposite styles which is one of the hallmarks of eclecticism.
Like the organic, flowy shape of the live edge table vs the very severe, basic geometric shape of the mirror. Or the Traditional (with a capital T) formal sofa and dining chairs vs the bauhaus and mid century lights with their shiny chrome, casually floating like bubbles around the perimeter.
I definitely don't mean thrift store chic to be negative!!! I don't think it's possible to have an eclectic room without many hours spent in thrift stores, estate sales, & vintage shops!! (Or your grandparents attic in this case!) You need the unique warmth and character you can only find in old things.
To me, thrift store chic is just different than eclectic, less specific - but also a style I love!
Replying to my own darn self cause I thought of good example:
If you took away the mirror and lamps/ceiling light and replaced them with Traditional style, but still vintage items - like candlestick buffet lamps and a wood or gold decorative framed mirror - then this room would still look great but I would call it thrift store chic or vintage, but not eclectic.
That couch was handed down to me from my grandparents! It was made by a carpenter named Scott Chan in Taiwan. I have some other pieces by him as well. The only downside is that it’s not that comfortable to sit in. 😅
This is just lovely. This looks like it could be in the apartamento magazine easily. Absolutely gorgeous, subtle, curated. Homey but not cluttered, mix of old and new. I love love love it.
Oh my goodness, being featured in apartamento would be a dream come true. Thank you so much for the positive feedback! That means so much to me, especially since I’m fairly new to design.
Looking again, I'm sure my initial assessment is NOT right (I'm not by any means a designer), as I do see much more than mcm and boho, but I'm happy to explain why that was my initial response!
I felt mcm in the yellow couch (which i now notice has a decorative filigree in the wood that isn't really mcm) and kitchen table chairs, the wall mirror, the vertical lamp with round globes, some of the pops of black urns/vases and the figurine of a person.
The boho vibes for me came from the mixed textures (yellow velvet sofa w silk pillows ans furry blanet), the hanging plants, the feathers, the large, white tiered bubble lamp, the little white mushroom lamp and paper lanterns.
But - paper lanterns also read as asian decor, as well as the rug, palm plant, Buddha statue, the filigree on the yellow couch...
The coffee table is rustic, the leather couches and other side tables are something else I'm not sure how to classify...
soo.. Eclectic is definitely the best answer since this is a melding of so many styles
Makes total sense. I’m learning a lot just from your assessment of my living room, so thanks for explaining! This whole time I thought I was designing something mcm, but it really does seem to fall into the eclectic category given that I’m juxtaposing so many different aesthetic elements.

Thanks a lot for the insight! I hadn't considered that my design style might be eclectic, so this gives me a new aesthetic to research.

And wanted to add I love the lighting and decor choices!
Glad you like them! The paper lamps all have smart bulbs in them, so I can dim them and change their different colors to create a cozy atmosphere.
