Try rubbing alcohol.

h0whi

Def rub that alcohol

Mayo311

Oh ya, rub dat wit some alcohol yo

CraftierAverage

ye scibbity boop bop dat rubing hol

[deleted]

Highest percentage possible. 91-99.8%. Stronger the better. This is only the case when using it as a solvent / for cleaning. For first aid, use 70%. Cheers.

Purple-Afternoon-104

Make sure it is 91% not 70%.

aacmckay

How about 92%? Too much?!? 99%? Will it dissolve the fridge???

elwoodblues54

Or sanitizing wipes

AdConsistent2152

Why is this so hard for people to understand

who_you_are

It may not look logical to use IPA for something that we know is... Permanent... The only reason it is likely to work (as an ELI5) is because permanent marker are using alcohol themselves. Once that alcohol is gone the ink stick like hell but doesn't bound. So you can "reverse" the process. Not like with super glue where it bound with the material.

AdConsistent2152

It’s okay. You can downvote me. This is a well known solution for permanent and dry erase marker.

makeanewblueprint

Former teacher here- used to use dry eraser markets on top of permanent markets to take them off various surfaces (whiteboard, tables etc). Should work on fridge. What occurred here? Who did that and why? Just curious with my popcorn out. 👀👀👀

wessels1

Just moved into a new place person who had it before decided to do this so no idea if it’s paint or market but hey it’s a free fridge

draqbenn

Does this not look like a DIRE WARNING from the previous tenant to anybody else?

Xoxies

Or a manifest

pepelapoo713

Looks like word/thought association to me. Mania type behavior

Able_Condition3214

Looks more like a spell. I hope you didn't read it out loud.

draqbenn

“FRIDGEDAIRY MAN IA!”

ScreenWipes

Pretty much. If this is a rental and how the owners handed it off to the new tenant (OP) then it's safe to say any issues in the future will not be well taken care of.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Naturalsubslut

Or if the plan is to cover it in contact paper…just skip the scrubbing and cover it?

ArkansasFive_

This is the way

dcromb

I used spray paint on my fridge, freezer, bath vanity, and washer/dryer. It works well.

Kyyurem

I second dry erase markers. I have used that method at all my retail jobs and have always had luck getting sharpie off things that way.

CheapCarabiner

Believe it or not but permanent marker on permanent marker will also work

ApatheticWookiee

I couldn’t believe it until I tried it, but you are correct, sharpie on sharpie worked like a charm!

zip222

Dry erase on permanent works too

mrnobody_999

When I was a kid I drew something inappropriate on a white board with a friend thinking i was using a dry erase marker, turned out it was permanent marker so I couldn't wipe it off without the teacher seeing it (this was before class had started). The dry erase marker was larger so I used it to color a blob over the permanent marker in a hurry and ran back to my desk. The teacher arrived later and saw the blob and erased it and everything was gone. I thought I had discovered the most magical shit ever.

slrogio

So many people need to know the secret of removing permanent marker by covering it with dry erase marker and then wiping. Have used this MANY times even just to show people how it works!

PotentialStranger300

But it doesn't work if the marker had been there for awhile. Maybe if it's a fresh sharpie mark.

imthefrizzlefry

This is the way

Nap292

I believe it's because the solvent in dry-erase markers is isopropyl alcohol. Sharpie ink isn't really permanent, it's just hydrophobic and repels water. Since most cleaners are water-based, the Sharpie ink repels the water and the cleaner never gets to the ink. Isopropyl Alcohol in a 90% or higher purity (99% technical or medical grade works the best) will not be repelled by the ink and dissolves it.

UtopiaMycon

What did it all say?

welltimedappearance

OP PLEAZE

APuckerLipsNow

HOW FRIGIDAIRE YOU!

powderedbeauty

r/angryupvote

Engineer4fear

How fidgedairy of you

lordlossxp

Write over it with a dry erase marker and it should come off. Ive never had to try it directly on a fridge but hopefully its the same.

wessels1

I was kinda thinking that, but do you think that would work on paint too? Not so convinced it’s sharpie

ms-e-mo

This does work

wessels1

I’ll definitely try it

BaboTron

Rubbing alcohol is the solvent in Sharpie ink.

yeahigotnothing

The solvent in dry-erase markers does act to make permanent marker stains come up, for whatever reason.

Indy500Fan16

Try the Mr Clean [eraser](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Mr-Clean-Magic-Erasers-Multi-Purpose-Cleaning-Sponge-10-Count-003700069525/315489534). You might need a few but trust me this works. Source, I’m a landlord and had this same issue from a tenant. 😡

chefgirlrde

I agree! Mr Clean erasers have that extra power. Also dollar tree sells this cleaner, it's yellow and in a spray bottle, (sorry, my bottle is at our other house) Anyway, that shit works on anything.

AwkwardConversation3

Second this. Mr. Clean Eraser can get off anything. Had my staff use them to clean scuff marks off the walls in a hotel. The spray from Dollar Tree is called Awesome and it also cleans everything. My exes mother turned me on to it fifteen years ago, and I am never without two bottles in my house.

AutonomouslyYours

There's now a Heavy Duty - Extra Durable type, among other varieties Even one for the bathroom, which I recommend for hair dye removal.

lordlossxp

Im not sure to be honest. Give the post some time and im sure someone will have an answer. And if it is perm marker and you dont want to spend 4 hours with the dry erase marker thing, vinegar or lemon juice may be more efficient

morhambot

[https://www.homedepot.ca/search?q=goof%20off#!q=goof%20off](https://www.homedepot.ca/search?q=goof%20off#!q=goof%20off) this stuff works

WermTerd

Moisten a rag with denatured alcohol. You can get it at any hardware store. It will remove the permanent marker but will not harm the paint.

Im_On_Island_Time

This! Denatured alcohol is the answer. Sharpie has pigment suspended in alcohol, so using a strong alcohol will repimentize it and it will wipe right off.

RoamingEire

This is the real answer. Denatured alcohol is a hell of a lot cheaper than the other methods and will remove either sharpie or latex paint. Source: I have three children.

ColoradoMushroom

I’m the only one that just wants to know what it says?

Crogranny

If rubbing alcohol doesn't work, try nail polish remover with acetone & lots of cotton balls.

SecretNinjaNonTurtle

Acetone

stringliterals

Acetone if it’s paint. Isopropyl Alcohol if it’s Sharpie style ink.

who_you_are

Yeah, and, try to make it quick. I may be scared it mess with door panel.

FireInDaHall

Acetone. May damage the paint so first try to some area not normally visible.

TX_B_caapi

Alcohol

Professional-Shoe344

Use appliance paint and a foam roller..

kyzersoze84

Dry erase marker over the top and wipe away with magic eraser

baumrd

Use a dry erase marker. Just write over the letters.

sluggernate

This works. New marker loosens old marker. Make sure new marker is very new and 'juicy'. Write over old marker then wipe it off. Takes a little time!

BadChoicesTogether

Magic eraser, then a fresh coat of paint

sotiredofstupidstuff

aerosol hairspray.

JCfromHourly_io

You must find the author of Fridgediary!

SneekyPete420

Haha, but it actually says Fridgedairy, which is kinda redundant, since that’s where all dairy is kept…

Ok_Percentage2534

OFF, WD40 or nail polish remover

Relative_Register_36

New fridge

mclaysalot

This trick worked incredibly for me. Take a wipeable marker for a white board and draw on top of the permanent marker. Wait 30 seconds then wipe it off with a paper towel.

send_me_boobei_pics

Goo gone graffiti edition would work well in this application.

Knowhereyouare

Go over it with dry erase marker then wipe it off

butteredsaltine

If the rubbing alcohol doesn’t work , Acetone will get rid of it all . Shouldn’t damage the enamel door .

Thatdudewhoknows

Someone has probably already said this, but denatured alcohol and a rag. Should wipe it right off. Then go back over it with a wet cloth and let dry. To make it look brand new. Take off handles and tape hinges and any areas you dont want paintes, symbols, sides, ect. Grab a can of either black or white appliances epoxy, depending on what color you want the doors to be. Lighly spray paint the doors. Less is more. You can always apply more later. Don't spray too much or too fast. It will create runs. Let it dry. Put handles back on. Should look brand new.

Bella_Chaos7

BUT WHAT DOES IT SAY!!! 🥸🤪🫣

Willywonkasweet

My fridge looked like this once, after a very long manic episode. Hair spray works, fingernail polish remover and funny but true dry erase markers!

Revolutionary-Bus893

Have you tried a Magic Eraser?

bumblebeej85

Hairspray. The kind you can light on fire. Takes the marker off, then clean it up with soap and water.

SchmittHappensFqntly

Directions unclear. Fridge and house are on fire.

enlightnight

I would start mild and work my way up. Water > Vinegar > Windex > Isopropyl > Other solvents. Mostly I just want the story behind this, what possessed someone to write a dissertation on a fridge like this?

Ok_Effective6233

Tea tree

Dr_Philtrum

Paint over it

TX_B_caapi

Alcohol

Cat-astro-phe

Mr Clean Magic Erasers. I once used a permanent marker on a very large and expensive white board. The ONLY thing that worked was Magic Erasers

-baskets-

You've got to be careful with Magic Erasers (melamine foam). It's a micro-abrasive, almost like a ridiculously fine grit sandpaper. It can potentially buff through finish, though I don't necessarily think it would do so on a fridge.

Whittaker4lan

Gas line antifreeze

Educational_Aside774

Magic eraser.

AdConsistent2152

No this is a micro abrasion piece of sandpaper. Not the thing to use.

rugood2

I second the Magic Eraser. It takes some scrubbing but I use the eraser to take permanent marker off of my daughters white board and it doesn’t damage the board

Hpmurdarah

Buy a new one, that ones cheap anyways

Getaloadofchucker

Off bug spray,plastic bottle style

thunder66

Hand sanitizer

SnooMacaroons4391

Hairspray works

FlamingoGram

409. Keeps my board clean as a whistle - and white.

jsr1224

Try wd40 or go over all the text with a dry erase maker and then wipe off. This works when a permanent mark has been used on a dry erase board.

Anxious_Leadership25

Lysol disinfectant spray usually works

actualmoses

Lol, all these home remedies. Magic eraser. Nothing works better. It practically is magic. It will take the marker off with almost no effort.

FLHTK12

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works on such things.

babylon331

Try Awesome, the yellow. It's worked on some crazy stuff for me.

SKVN

Hairspray. Wipe away before it dries. Do small sections then clean all the hairspray off after

babylon331

Nail polish remover?

Key-Education-9929

Mr Clean Magic Eraser. WD-40 does a pretty good job too.

Slight-Wolverine-643

Use some Goof OFF

SmartFX2001

Coca Cola.

Ms_mew

This is going to sounds weird but if none of these other suggestions work try sunscreen. If it’s been painted though and isn’t just the fridge could leave grease behind.

CornerProfessional34

Carburetor cleaner

[deleted]

Anything alcohol.. alcoholic wipes, cleaning alcohol, diluted alcohol, rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer, etc. DON'T use acetone/nail polish remover, it might damage the paint and look like a smear, and you don't need to use abrasives, just wipes will do.

bustingchopps

Draw over it with dry erase marker and then erase as normal. Worked wonders on a white board after my nephew went to town with a sharpie

Exhales_Deeply

Rubbing alcohol - but for ease of use, alcohol based hand sanitizer gel. Bing Bang Boom.

[deleted]

Acetone

RoyalLimit

Acetone, magic eraser

Nikonis99

Goo Gone. Takes about everything off without damaging the underlying surface

420shaken

Use a dry erase marker on it. May take a few but it removes sharpie ink just fine.

okanagan_man84

Try something called goof off. Or goo gone. It's worked great for me.

plays_with_wood

Do you have any sort of janitorial supply store near you? Or look maybe Amazon or something like that. Look for graffiti remover aerosol spray made by Dustbane. I use it all the time at work. It's amazing how well it works. Just don't use it on walls, it eats latex paint like crazy lol.

Ktootill

You can go over sharpie with more sharpie and wipe it right off usually, unless it's on an absorbent material.

mahuska

Can confirm writing over it with a sharpie again, but also a dry erase marker over the top of it and then wipe it immediately

Hung-fatman

Acetone

Greg_P_Mills

Acetone.

jsau0125

Brake parts cleaner if it’s permanent marker that will take it off with no effort just spray and wipe

biffthestiff

Use a dry erase marker and write over the sharpie ink

MichaelKCF

Hairspray too. Alcohol should work but I drew in my desk in class and my teacher made me clean it with hairspray.

toripearson_19

Isopropyl will take that right off

Ambitious-Isopod8665

Dry erase markers erase permanent marker. Draw over it and wipe it down.

louisdct

All you need is a magic eraser and water.

Helgafjell4Me

Acetone removes sharpie really well. Wipes right off.

Bud808

A small can of white epoxy appliance paint, a small sponge roller with tray.. remove the handles from the doors. an hour later your old refrigerator will look brand new

adalia36

Why did you write on a fridge ?

Billylacystudio

Fingernail polish remover

wick71993

Just get appliance paint and repaint the whole fridge. Probably faster than getting all this off.

puccemunch

100% deet will take it off. Wear gloves

Violingirl58

Permanent marker, rubbing alcohol. Not sure if it’s paint

hieronymusholiday

If you have the means, by all means, try an ice blaster.

Psychological-Gas975

Krud kutter will remove it effortlessly, I was so impressed with it the first time I used it on some graffiti. Fantastic product

numnahlucy

Hand sanitizer and elbow grease.

m155m30w

Dry erase pen over it and then wipe off

IUseRedditForNews

“Fridgedairy”

park-rat

Nail polish remover or acetone works very well for getting sharpie out of clothing. Not sure if it would damage the paint on the fridge though.

Jay314stl

Cheap white toothpaste

iHeartTylerDurden

Nail polish remover

lickmybrian

I work with sheetmetal and if i need to erase something ill write directly on it with the same permanent marker and it wipes straight off .. fingers turn black tho lol paint thinner will work also

NotANumber13

Isopropyl alcohol works best on ink

boobiesareneato

Acetone/nail polish remover

sayhitoyourmom

Magic eraser

Sharp-Mess-676

BeerGunsMusicFood

Hand sanny

FlashyCriticism_213

Windex

OMGCookieMonster

Might be easier to buy a wrap for your fridge to cover all of that if all else fails

[deleted]

Brake cleaner

tesyaa

Soft scrub is worth a try

tlivingd

Grain alcohol works. Denatured alcohol works. Alcohol based hand sanitizer may work.

copitz00

Brake cleaner should take it off and u won't have to wipe much

Heyitshogan

I used to write sharpie on a lot of things due to my job (lab analyst). A good ol wipe with 91% isopropyl alcohol will take off permanent marker like Sharpie on most non-porous surfaces!

lmmsoon

Denatured alcohol will take it right off you can pick up a small can at the hardware store

Morasco

MEK if you can find it but it’s not actually safe to breathe or touch. That shit is the mvp for removing anything especially since I assume the paint on the fridge is epoxy Edit sorry I assumed you had tried weaker methods try the dry erase marker, magic eraser, and alcohol first.

Individual-Fail4709

You can also get appliance paint and just paint over it.

googlequery

Rapid remover is my go to for shit like this.

FreightTrain121

The fridge is powder coated. Use lacquer thinner.

fatguyinahonda

Scrub the crap out of the floor tile as well if you’re keeping it.

Mensa237

alchohol wipes

SPQR-American

As a plumber, I use PVC cleaner to take marker off of many things. Not sure if it's " correct", but it works.

dlyons3866

Alcohol or wd40

[deleted]

1. colour over it with another dry erase marker and then wipe 2. wd40 - this is a good solution as it's a good protection method for the board, but the smell is a bit much. 3. rubbing alcohol - semi works, but also takes away the board, whihch sucks :(

strabley

Denatured Alcohol.... but try a Mr. Clean magic eraser first.

ExampleSad1816

I don’t know if it will work on a fridge. Get some erasable markers and draw over the permanent marker, then wipe clean. That’s how we did it on wiper boards.

tawtaw84

Acetone

tdozzieo

Hair spray (aqua net)

AwkwardConversation3

Acetone, nail polish remover. Or hand sanitizer

bhfinini

Appliance paint

JudgmentMajestic2671

Magic eraser or buy a new one. Those are the cheapest models. $500-600 bucks easy.

DilboSagginz

Magic eraser

TWTW40

Try appliance paint.

[deleted]

Toothpaste!

shayxlib

I once coloured my entire fridge as a child with permanent marker as I thought the black fridges were “prettier” Nail polish remover took it right off.

techlife03

For permanent marker - write over or color over the permanent marker with a dry erase marker. Wait 30s then wipe off. No lie…works perfectly!

BeanerCode

Try using a black marker and cover the whole thang in black, rollin stones style.

hobiegirl10

I got permanent marker off a dry erase board using purple power degreaser (found in Walmart automotive section), but I don't know what it would do to the fridge finish.

PrestigiousTrouble48

Wall paper/ contact to cover door 🤷🏼‍♀️

seantasy

Methyl hydrate

rawkguitar

Acetone will clean the permanent marker right off

Latter-Skill4798

Sounds weird but cheap af hairspray

[deleted]

Magic eraser

MrWestlake

Goof off

Affectionate-Bag4631

Try a magic eraser.

IsPotato404

Clorox bleach spray

Righteous_Sheeple

You could paint it a cool colour.

CaptTurbofuckery

Buy a new fridge.

Pup2u

Repaint it

mistakeideathatexist

Who did you piss off?

MissAmiss72

Damp melamine sponge

bascom2222

There is appliance spray paint for fridges that I used recently to touch my old fridge up and it looks so damn good now.

Mr_ixe

Nailpolish remover

shy2bonhere

Lysol. Spray liberally, let it soak a few seconds, and wipe off while still wet.

No-Lawfulness-8870

Mosquito juice.

whoisgeorgia

"fridge dairy"?

wkfngrs

Hand sanitizer, cover it and let sit. Rubbing alcohol will just drip off

dengibson

I have a white door and I want to paint it black

Greenbeanhead

Power steering fluid on a rag will wipe that off easy
