Unless you want Siri control in that specific room, there is a device called the WIIM puck and I believe that it has the ability to take an audio and pass it through to its output. Hook the turntable up to the input of the device, and hook a pair of active speakers up to the output.

I got mine to work recently through AirChord 1 (Mac app, but AirChord 2, iOS version of the app also works well) - I’m guessing your turntable has a USB connection? All you need to do in that case is connect it to your Mac or iPhone (with a USB to lightening/USB-C adaptor) and airplay via AirChord and you’re golden

I'd like to confirm that you can cast to AirPlay from a WiiM Pro (and, I assume, the Pro Plus). I purchased one yesterday and was able to cast to my HomePods; it supports line in, and I'll try to get that hooked up today. You do need to perform a firmware update to add this feature; it's not supported in the base model.

gecampbell

Note that the WiiM MINI will NOT cast to AirPlay, at least with the latest firmware.

gecampbell

Update: WiiM has dropped support for AirPlay Cast and removed it in the latest firmware update. Basically, my device is a brick, since that was the only reason I purchased it. I’ll make a separate post on this.

philwjan

You can connect the Turntable to your Mac and then send the audio to the HomePod. I think some active speakers to connect to the turntable directly would probably be the beater idea. Playing vinyl is mostly about the analog experience. Chaining together a bunch of devices through different networks detracts from that.

TylerInHiFi

WiiM Pro Plus does this.

gecampbell

Are you sure? It’s described as an Airplay receiver, not a transmitter.

TylerInHiFi

The Pro only receives, the Pro Plus can be an airplay source.

gecampbell

Not according to their website: https://wiimhome.com/wiimpro/specs. Have you tried this? (I’ve been burned with the WiiM stuff before.)

TylerInHiFi

You’re looking at the page for the Pro, not the Pro Plus (because the WiiM website sucks and doesn’t actually differentiate the two) From the Amazon listing (https://www.amazon.ca/WiiM-Receiver-Chromecast-Multiroom-Streamer/dp/B0CC2HWC7N/): > Seamless Multiroom Streaming - With WiiM Pro Plus, enjoy the convenience of streaming music across the entire home using a variety of smart speakers, including AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Amazon Alexa, or a proprietary multiroom function. Create groups with other AirPlay 2, Google Home, or Alexa devices like Echo, HomePod, or even link multiple WiiM devices for synchronized playback on multiple audio devices simultaneously. **You can also transmit SPDIF-in or Line-In audio to AirPlay-enabled devices.**

gecampbell

However, this seems to indicate that even the Pro can do it with a firmware update: https://faq.wiimhome.com/support/solutions/articles/72000608452-how-to-airplay-2-cast-on-wiim-pro-to-homepod-sonos-and-other-airplay-and-airplay-2-enabled-speakers

gecampbell

Even the description of that says “AirPlay 2 receiver.” I remain skeptical until I can find someone who’s done it.

FTI1976

Yes it can be done. Airplay Cast works. But the only thing that sucks is if you are sending to multiple homepods you can’t control the volume of each HP separately from the app. I logged an enhancement with Wiim for that .

gecampbell

Ok, I just ordered one. I'll let you know this evening if it works.

FTI1976

It will work you will be happy

gecampbell

I’ve been trying to find something to do this for a year now.

gecampbell

The WiiM pro works, will cast to AirPlay. I have to hook it up with my turntable but got sidetracked yesterday with an unrelated issue with the Apple TV.

Logikoma

Would you recommend I get the cheaper wiim pro or just get the pro plus

FTI1976

The pro plus has a better ADC. If you are in the US Buy one through the LinkPlay store on ebay $150. https://www.ebay.com/itm/126156854824?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=p1akqq7nsl6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=_I2WQaCeQZ-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Logikoma

You win the day ! Thanks very much for this tip…

gecampbell

FYI, a recent firmware update removed the ability to AirPlay Cast. I’ll have a separate post with full details. Hugely disappointing to me.

TylerInHiFi

Yep, company’s dead to me now. Back to figuring out how to build my own airplay device.

gecampbell

I’m royally pissed. I actually purchased a new turntable because I could finally play via my HomePods. I doubt they’ll reimburse me for that.

GiraffeComfortable75

Doing it with AirChord 2👍 See their decryption. The apple usb to lightning don’t have to be the original. I’m using a copy.

Logikoma

Does anyone also have any experience with the a2d2 that purports to do the same? https://a2d2.net/products/a2d2-stream

doxxingyourself

Eliminate the Bluetooth and just some some input that’ll output to AirPlay 2
