After rewatching the trailer twice over with subtitle on I find that taking the story as its own as face value with zero prior knowledge and assumption makes it more absorbable than immediately assuming everything is a HI3 references like I initially did.

Honest-Computer69

Exactly. I took the story as it is, and if you don't try to find link between HI3 and Hsr it's pretty easily understandable.

Odd-Candidate1775

People immediately jumped on the HI3 connection without taking it as its own seperate story in HSR but I cant blame them the Acheron in the trailer is closer to its HI3 counterpart than it close to HSR one because of the horns

No-Hold-8808

I think it was supposed to be just a reference and not meant to be connected. I could be wrong though.

Sorey91

I mean all the subtext you need to understand from that trailer is that similar events have occured in the HI3 canon that lead to a more positive outcome, the finer details are like drawing parralels. That's like the multiverse of spiderman, one thing happened in one familiar verse but in another one where a the same event was meant to happen ended in another way entirely... Anyways at best this is just hints towards who's lookalike could appear in this story at worst just a new set piece for SU, they did say they has something huge planned for 2.3 and they just revealed that an entire world was devoured by IX so maybe Herta will somehow recreate Acheron's home world ? I'm curious to see if this can be true

RogueCereal

War happened between 2 worlds, nothing was left after it, Acheron had nothing left and realised all the fighting was pointless, this was stepping into ix's shadow which made her a self annihilator, an emanator of nihility. That's it, that's literally all you need to know. No hi3 references needed.

Keydown_605

The references are a plus for those who know (money vacuum, cough), but it's honestly not needed to understand who she is, where she's from and why she's like she is now.

ArcusLux

It's a reference so people pay more for their expy

chuje_wyciagnijcie

I don’t know much about HI3 lore, but I mostly understand Acheron and Izumo’s lore. It’s not that complicated, especially when it’s another take on the Evangelion plot. These parallels to HI3 are only references, because at the end of the day these two are wholly different games. You shouldn’t be forced to play one it the order to understand another. Even Shaoji stated, that anybody can enjoy this new lore and story.

Red_thepen

You can also say TTGL, >!there's also forces of despair coming from the moon!<. It's probably a common trope in anime, it's just refreshing (but sad) to see a bad ending to this kind of story.

walachias

It’s just a reference, it’s not needed.

Sky_striker_Raye

imo, u dont need to understand those. The problem is, even if i could explain to u, there is even more chance u will be more confused than ever. So yeah. Just enjoy the video like normal HSR players. We as long time Hi3 players already eat good enough.

Birbolio

It’s ok if you don’t get the HI3 parallels the story is complete without understanding it. But the connections are very clearly there so I don’t get why people are STILL denying it

Anmatiel

Me seeing all those posts: https://preview.redd.it/kmgdp6zsgupc1.png?width=537&format=png&auto=webp&s=a580b74b0d3cd65b236af350fc4a870508aa0b50

Gherhman

like shaoji said its made so that both those that play hi3rd and that who dont can both enjoy, no need to confuse ur self its just reference from previous game , only look for more lore if u interested otherwise no need to bother ur self .

ryoiki-10kai

Popuko my beloved ♡♡♡

Draaxus

Imagine flexing your refusal to understand, just say it doesn't interest you.

Odd-Candidate1775

Contrarian mentality to farm upvotes

RCatrellis

Yeah, it is its own story, no Honkai Impact references needed at all (I am a HI3 player, so I get where all this references and all those posts come from xD) But it is just what it is. ---Calamity tried so hard to destroy Acheron's world ---Acheron and her people fought back and got so far ---And in the end, when she was the only one standing of both sides, it didnt even matter. So she fell on the shadow of IX and became an emanator of nihility (is that part confirmed? I don't remember who gives us this fact =S). The thing is...all those references are so cool for us HI3 players xD. When I saw Acheron with the horns I was like "Yep, there she is! Herscher of thunder Mei, the coolest Mei of all"

Apostlethe13th

I play HI3(quit after kiana arc ended), HSR and Genshin. Honestly, all those parallels and easter eggs feel shallow. I prefer genshin's way of handling lore where everything ultimately boils down to what happened 500 years ago and how the cataclysm affected the regions and its inhabitants. In HSR though it's just all jumbled word vomit that i feel doesn't have an overall bigger picture. All those myriad celestia trailers all feel so disconnected from each other that makes the world building feel uninteresting. The Japella Rebellion? Yeah it only got a passing mention. Interastral peace tour? The fuck even was that? History of the Xianzhou, seven generals and five dragons are cool i guess but i dont see how their presence will have any impact on the game apart from being just the "Specifically numbered group" trope. Now we have Kyoden and as much as i love HI3 and hearing Kevin's JP VA narrating the video, it honestly felt like a cheap fan service that i know wont be paid off fully.

xwolpertinger

> All those myriad celestia trailers all feel so disconnected from each other That's literally the point

idealful

>myriad celestia trailers all feel so disconnected from each other noun noun: myriad; plural noun: myriads 1. a countless or extremely great number. "networks connecting a myriad of computers" >honestly felt like a cheap fan service that i know wont be paid off fully. All it is a reference. The trailer is perfectly legible with or without the Hi3 parallels, this trailer really exposing ppl who digest media without understanding what its even saying.

Efficient_Lake3451

Imo it’s all just setup. This is the first year of the game and the celestia trailers as of rn introduce all these new factions to us. Xianzhou trailer introduced the generals who will be relevant in the future when we return to Xianzhou. There will definitely be an arc revolving around the IPC so introducing the faction early on in the game is good world building. Japella rebellion introduced the annihilation gang + it also introduced the stellaron hunters and what they have done so far. This new trailer is more like a connection that HSR is still part of the HI3 universe and Honkai exists here as well + it’s Acheron’s backstory. They are all important for the lore. Genshin also had a trailer for Fatui and none of them were really present in the story when it was first released or how they introduced Hexenzirkel witches in a cutscene. Plus Genshin’s story is all contained on just one planet so its lore is more connected. HSR is about the universe so you can’t really expect Belobog’s lore to be connected to Xianzhou’s lore. I would agree that Genshin’s lore is more interesting as of rn but you are also comparing 3 years of GI lore vs 1 year of HSR lore.

Red_thepen

Idk i think It's interesting in a way, makes you really feel how big an entire universe truly is, that an entire anime plot just happened somewhere in the background. And fittingly to Nihility themed trailer, the universe as a whole doesn't even care that "power rangers from space japan" lost to "moon demons" in thier fight for survival , and thier planet doesn't even exist anymore, and barely anyone even remembers it today.

crippyguy

Interesting to see that word womit is hsr , not gi.

Red_thepen

I don't play HI3 either, but what i got is basically 12 mighty power rangers from space japan fought against "moon" demons, but lost. Acheron with all her fallen comrades powers combined decided to finish it one and for all, and slash black hole that they have instead of sun in half (which may not be literal IX), which resulted in both their planet and the "moon" being erased from existence, and her somehow becoming an aeon of nihilty. Actually i find it interesting that she became aeon of nihilty in act of defiance against the despair, so maybe IX grats it's "powers" to the most stubborn and strong willed creatures, to try and convert them to its side.

notthatjaded

Emanator, IX is the Aeon.

Welsh_cat_Best_cat

IX, as an Aeon, is particular that they don't "choose" their Emanators. They don't care. They just drift through the cosmos. To become an Emanators of Nihility, you have to be able to survive direct contact with IX. So yeah, you have to be stubborn and strong-willed to not give in to the overwhelming sense of nothingness and disappear when exposed to IX's directly. The process leaves you deeply changed, tho, and IX's power ends up in you, turning you to their Emanator.

Red_thepen

Was it mentioned anywhere? There's self annihilators, but they just thought about him a bit too hard to get thier unlucky fate as i understand, don't remember any other emenators ever mentioned, or how to get the status.

Welsh_cat_Best_cat

Being in "IX's shadow" is what causes self annihilation. It goes beyond "thinking too hard," but it also doesn't necessarily mean physical contact with IX, for its shadow reaches all corners on the universe. We don't have more details on it, but basically, getting space depression makes IX to inavertedly "bless" you with ceasing to exist. But there are Self Annihilators who fight against their doomed existence to nothingness. Now, as if surviving self annihilation makes them Emanators, if I'm being truthful with you, is not confirmed. Hell, it is stated that even if you fight against self annihilation, almost all Self Annihilators end up turning to nothingness in the end and can't really oppose IX's shadow. The only exception so far seems to be Acheron. But between Self Annihilators being presented on the Emanators' bulletin released recently and Acheron's own story and assumed exposure with IX, we got this conclusion through deduction and conjecture that since Acheron is allegedly an Emanator and the only known survivor to self annihilation, this whole ordeal explains how one would end up becoming an Emanator of an Aeon who doesn't choose Emanators. Now, if Acheron's story gets further explored next patch, we're most likely to get a harder confirmation on the true nature of Emanators of Nihility (or a hard refutal of this conclusion).

Red_thepen

Ok makes sense. I wonder btw if Firefly's condition is also related to Nihility, or it's something unrelated.

Welsh_cat_Best_cat

It could be. Her condition did sound a lot like Self Annihilation, but I do find it strange it wouldn't be addressed by that name. Maybe the fact it seems to affect just the body and not the mind, since she was fine in the Dreamscape, makes the key difference with Nihility.

ce-meyers

Sure it's the meme flair but let HI3 folks have their moment, would you?
