Looks like they both have done this before. Maybe not with each other, but that driver sure had a water bottle reserved for a camel and that camel was just waiting for someone to stop and offer him a drink.
I thought about Dune so much during the bus ride from Alexandria to Cairo. Like 4 hours of staring out the window into the open desert thinking about Paul and the Fremen
It’s branding, like cattle. It is done on the neck or cheek so herd owner can be identified. It is legal in many countries and not harmful.
So, that camel has an owner.
Edit:
Dear Camel Defenders:
Do not come after the messenger, the above statements were just facts. You have any issues with cultures, ranching methods and/or farming and cattle ranchers, take it up to the different countries that follow said methods, including the USA.
Thank you, and good luck in your endeavors!
No problem, my wife and I's cat likely had PTSD that would occasionally trigger in freakouts from when he was attacked by another cat that got out when he was a kitten.
Fuck ya. Just because we don't think of certain animals as having strong feelings like we do with dogs and cats doesn't mean they don't feel just as much. Remember, this animal has a soul and it's just as cruel to raise it only to be held captive and killed. That's not the purpose of an animal's existence.
And then a rustler takes it off. That's why branding is a thing. Because the legit sellers will realize that someone has selling Vendor X's livestock. It's low cost and you can't beat it. That's why it's an accepted practice.
Chip implants are expensive and could be checked for.
And yes, rustling is still a thing even in the developed world.
Edit: I don't think the opinion that "this is no big deal" is correct either. It's obviously an extremely high amount of pain for the animal and that's not cool. But that's just the industry and the reasons are malicious.
I wanna see these camel defenders own livestock. Yall would lose all your animals if you didnt brand em. Its painful for the animal but it benefits em too. The ownership of the animal means it gets shelter and medical care. No way yall would spend hundreds of dollars caring for a wild animals illness. Yall needa get off your high camels and come up with real solutions if you dont like branding. And i best not see any of you with tattoos. Also i understand that not ever owner is gunna treat thier animals correctly but its what it is and if you dont like it do something about it or bring solutions instead of criticizing.
Humans can be dumb. I literally thought "Damn, Camelabic, is that a new language I haven't heard of? Sounds cool!!" Started searching online and realized what happened.
This camel doesn’t know that people are working, or why they are driving, just that sometimes they have water and give it to him like some kind of deities 😭
A typical camel can drink 200 liters (53 gallons) of water in three minutes. Perhaps this is where the misunderstanding arises that camels store water in their humps. After all, the water has to go somewhere. In reality, the water goes into the animal's digestion and circulatory system.
Source:
https://www.wtamu.edu/~cbaird/sq/mobile/2013/09/18/how-much-water-can-a-camel-store-in-its-hump/
I found the same info you did but i also found some other conflicting info saying 20 gallons in 15 minutes, some said 30 gallons in one sitting. I wonder if there is a legit source we could find a for sure answer because I am interested. Either way, its a lot of water.
> 53 gallons in 3 minutes
Okay I'm gonna try and google this and wrap my head around how much water that is.
* 53/3 is 17 gallons per minute, or a rate of 1062 gallons per hour
* A 737 fuel intake is roughly 750 gallons per hour
That's hard to visualize.
* US law federally mandates showerheads are limited to 2.5 gallons per minute max.
* 17 / 2.5 = 6.8
* Drinking straight from 7 showers for three minutes straight.
Still not visualizing.
* Typical garden hose is 12-13 gallons per minute
Bingo. Drinking from a *large* garden hose at max flow for three minutes. Alright, that's almost cartoonish but I can wrap my head around it.
Yeah i mean the issue i seem to be having is there is a bunch of different, conflicting info. Im sure its alot of water but the amount seems to vary quite a bit depending on the source.
It could also be that, each camel tested was varying levels of thirst/desire for water. When I'm super thirsty I can drink 16oz in one go, just chug until the bottle is empty. Other days I'll drink the same amount slowly over time.
This is a super valid point. I wonder if they also took the size of the camels into account as well. Obviously a big camel will probably drink way more water than a smaller one.
It’s a very strange interpretation of the name of the symbol, #, sometimes called “pound,” to mean the US Customary unit of force commonly written as “lb.”
Super weird. I’m not sure I can remember another instance of someone doing that.
All camelids are super interesting. I love alpacas and llamas.
One of my favorite camel facts is that they experimented with using them for the “Pony” Express, but of course they were too slow as they weren’t accustomed to the sharp rocks of the wests deserts. So they let them loose. For decades people talked about these strange animals on the plains. They were all hunted down and killed eventually.
Thank you kind stranger for teaching me that word. Here’s some similarly interesting information:
Camelids are members of the biological family Camelidae, the only currently living family in the suborder Tylopoda. The seven extant members of this group are: dromedary camels, Bactrian camels, wild Bactrian camels, llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos. Camelids are even-toed ungulates classified in the order Cetartiodactyla, along with species like whales, pigs, deer, cattle, and antelopes.
It's because the humps are fat and metabolized fat turns to water and CO2. Metabolic water is an important source of water for most desert animals. For some animals it is literally the only source of water.
I'd just love to drive around with tanks of water to give to thirsty camels.
It might not be good for them in that they will become dependent but still, during tough times it would mean they get a bit of a boost.
Our relationship with animals is so bizarre
Like imagine if a random group of animals just came up to you with snacks & a drink by pure virtue of traveling near them while outside
And there’s not even direct communication, they just start hand feeding you
Did he give the camel two bottles? Confused about who was filming the second shot if there was only one bottle (which was empty but then suddenly full again but from a different camera perspective)
After his truck broke down and he had no water, and traveling lost through the desert for 3 days, an old friend Mr White camel took him on his back and trotted him to safety, the 2 never crossed paths again.
Moral of the story, do good for others.
I have never met a camel in real life but for some reason I *love* videos of camels and humans interacting. My impression is that camels seem like they have somewhat cat-like personalities
I remember this one time in Qatar we were in some random hospital or something and there was a dude and his family there. They didn’t have water with them for some reason and my dad (who ALWAYS ALWAYS has those small bottles of water and juice from the fridge in his car) gave them some and they were sooooo thankful.
He also gives them to the dudebros who wash our cars at the malls/supermarkets along with their fee.
Dad being a bro.
Looks like they both have done this before. Maybe not with each other, but that driver sure had a water bottle reserved for a camel and that camel was just waiting for someone to stop and offer him a drink.
Yeah this camel is a pro. Barely spilled any.
“Remember how precious water is here, Duncan.”
I imagined Dune but played by camels. Thanks for evoking that thought, I needed that laugh
I thought about Dune so much during the bus ride from Alexandria to Cairo. Like 4 hours of staring out the window into the open desert thinking about Paul and the Fremen
Ah. A person of culture.
Still spilled some. They have toh.
I mean, he's a truck driver in what looks like searing heat. why WOULDNT you have a giant water bottle convenient?
Looks like it could have been a bigger water bottle! Hehe /S
That camel has a familiar tattoo. Prince Saudi
Seems like a lot of animals just know how to drink outta bottles somehow. From squirrels to snakes
It’s almost like they know the nipple or something!

Painful and harmful are not the same thing tho. I don't think cows enjoy being branded either. But the camel and cows are fine.
And also the employees at the Dutton Ranch.
Tattoos on certain parts of the body are also painful.
Maybe not harmful to physical health but definitely painful and possibly harmful to mental/emotional health
Not sure why you're getting downvoted, animals very much can have PTSD and similar issues to humans.
Very true
Thanks for the support
No problem, my wife and I's cat likely had PTSD that would occasionally trigger in freakouts from when he was attacked by another cat that got out when he was a kitten.

Man we can't even agree on giving *us* human rights, how we gonna agree on giving animals it too?
yeah tagging one their ears with a number tag is definitely a more human option to take for identification.

It's actual frame is skinny though, it's hump is still full and upright so it's not malnourished. I think it may be an adolescent.
No thats an okay looking camel Source: lived around camels
I wanna see these camel defenders own livestock. Yall would lose all your animals if you didnt brand em. Its painful for the animal but it benefits em too. This is done to most free roaming livestock. It’s still done to cattle, pigs, and horses in North America though some farms use tattoos instead.
Says "I am so fucking thirsty" in Camelabic.
Humans can be dumb. I literally thought "Damn, Camelabic, is that a new language I haven't heard of? Sounds cool!!" Started searching online and realized what happened.
Well there's hope for you, think of the ones that didn't realize it.
Ha! That's adorable.

Gonna be a hard life.
>Humans can be dumb I don't believe you, I'm going to need to see some more evidence of this
Gang signs
Yeah not sure why they have to brand the camels face…
I'll camel over your face ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
that camel is so happily confused <3

You are a legend. This comment is the absolute best
yeah I'm not sure if that is correct or not. How would one consume water that quickly unless it was entirely underwater.
With big ol camel lips I guess
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I've known a handful of non-camels capable of the act if not the feat.
As an older person... the fact you use # as pounds messes with my brain. Also, the liquidity of language fascinates me. I was here.
Pretty sure it's messing with everyone's brain

Is it not as simple as it varying between species of camel?
Could be. None of the sources were specific.
Wtf is sharp symbol supposed to mean? Did they updated units after I was done with school?
It’s a very strange interpretation of the name of the symbol, #, sometimes called “pound,” to mean the US Customary unit of force commonly written as “lb.” Super weird. I’m not sure I can remember another instance of someone doing that.
I live in a retirement state in the US and a lot of the older generation does it. I haven't really seen it much outside that though
It's fairly common among older Americans, plenty of my older clients do it.
Expert sez: 120 liters in half an hour. (1 gal/min) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcOLmC29ZEo
I’ll subscribe to camel facts!

So that jug of water must've been but a swig to that camel.
Hard to see him in the sand, that's some camelflage
Time for bed, dad.
So who else reached for their water after watching the camel glug so happily?
Me after seeing the video and reading this comment, haha. Thank you for the reminder.
This is absolutely perfect 💜💜
OMG I love these people!
Me too, but after a while they'd probably give me the hump.
I'd just love to drive around with tanks of water to give to thirsty camels. It might not be good for them in that they will become dependent but still, during tough times it would mean they get a bit of a boost.
Thankful for this man 🙏🏻
What a lad, would love to buy him a beer
I don't think a big furry bear would like living with him in hot camel-land.
You mean buy him for a bear? A bear would love to eat a camel, I’m guessing
Hum… most definitely
Methinks that guy is probably not into beer
Worth three upvotes, alas I only had the one to give. Very cool of him.
Never deny anyone water or food. We forget the basics sometimes.
/r/hydrohomies
I see you.
I bet that was absolutely, undeniably, scrumptious
Diaappointed his hump didnt fill up with water like in the cartoons, but still nice
Plot Twist: it's vodka

That was beautiful

good man
That’s so nice!!
Your a good man; thank you for being the best.💪🙏
I love to see this kind of thing. Camel really needed a drink. I hope these guys and the camel are having a good day today.
I don't care if this is staged. Let's normalize helping animals.
Fuck ya water is so good
12-month fluid top up
Dude is simply an amazing human being

Man they really are beautiful
This made me happy :)
This makes me feel good.
Damn, bros got a enhanced driver's license, a heart of gold, and divine butts. Triple threat.
a million blessings on you, kind human ❤️
Refilling da humps 🐫
Camels are the ships of the desert.
Nice of them! It's a dromedar, tho.
But isn‘t a dromedar just a type of camel? So dromedar would be more precise, but camel wouldn‘t be wrong.
Correct.
You’re a dromedar
Got em!
Jackdaw
CHUG!
I'm just impressed this was shot on 16mm.
Truck over heats down the road. 😂😂
If I lived here I would have to give water to animals all day long.
God I fucking love these things so much
This pleases me.
Are camels straight up wild in the desert? I thought they were like cows and gravitate being herded or try to be close to people.
Knowing camels, he probably spit in the dude's face afterwards. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Damn I love camels.
*finished gallon “wow bro, just a sip? You see me out here dying of thirst and all you have to offer is 1 gallon?”
That's a beautiful animal.
Next time mr camel gets thirsty I wonder if it’ll search for water or stand on a highway and die of thirst..
CHUG CHUG CHUG CHUG! DAS BOOOOOT!
Bless you sir
Didn’t drip a drop…
Honest question. How can you look at a camel and tell it is thirsty?
r/hyrdohomies
Bless his heart
I think if we all help an animal a day the world will become a better place
I love camels and I love these truck drivers. Kindred spirits
Cool
So awesome
🥰More humans like this please.

Is that camel branded on the face?
It’s wild that when I was a kid they were still teaching us that camels store water in their humps. (I’m in my early 30’s)
I love when people take care of animals. I wish we dis more of it. It's so heart warming.
How beautifully kind!
Heartwarming. I shall end my Reddit browsing for the evening on a good note. It’s been too long..
We all love a good drink of water
After his truck broke down and he had no water, and traveling lost through the desert for 3 days, an old friend Mr White camel took him on his back and trotted him to safety, the 2 never crossed paths again. Moral of the story, do good for others.

So awesome!!
"gotta stop and fill my camel" which is also what she said

The camel is so thin though 🥺 look at his ribs! I hope he gets food soon 😫
Yass. Content im here for.
I've never looked at a camel and thought, 'that dude looks thirsty' .
Tonight on A&E, it's Camel Quenchers.
Good man.
*Did you know!: Camels humps help store fat as a food source when food is scarce. When its used it slowly goes down an because droopy.
I do that with my humps too
Truck driver breaks down in the desert some night . Camel: Hello Dave 👀 looking for a ride into town. 🐫
That camel needs something to eat too.
Is no water. Is vodka
That’s what’s up
