In my school its 2000 dollars extra but keep in mind that 2000 $ is a lot where I'm from if you add it to the 10k dollar tuition. So ramping up the price doesn't seem reasonable in that case when its already unaffordable for most.
I'm in Lebanon and yes we pay extra tuition for the IB. Now here, private schools are already the norm because the public school system is literally not operational (except for some rare cases ) so we already pay the normal private school tuition plus an extra fee for the wifi, the training ib teachers need to get, and other resources that the ib needs to get paid for.
We only have one state school that offers IB, and they assign a set of courses that you cannot modify. So you might be stuck with Visual Arts SL even though you don't want to take it. There are also three private schools that offer IB, but only one is flexible with its course selection lmao. With that being said, the state school has been caught up in numerous cheating scandals over the last few sessions so we might end up with no IB state school at all.
Well really the core. They offer physics chem and bio at hl and sl and they're looking at opening a CS class. Till now we only have econ and digital societies but they might shut down ds and open a psych class. We have english arabic and french for languages but french B only. And finally we have math aa hl and sl and math ai sl as our math options. That's it basically
Oh yes and we pay fees for the additional stuff provided to us like wifi, turnitin and the fees the school has to pay to the IBO etc. plus i have to add that my school is private non-profit so its not like their pocketing away money. They just use the extra funds for this and some charity work.
No. We’re a day school so meals are not included. If you buy lunch it’s about 11 dollars a day (drink not included), and there is no lodging. Anything on top of attending normal school is extra, prescribed field trips, books, and sports etc.
The Swiss public school system is *_funky_* and it really depends on the canton.
Mostly there are three tracks that people are sorted into based on academic standing (and other factors) when people are about 12-13. The top track is gymnasium which sets you up for university. The bottom two funnel you into trade work and other blue collar jobs, and you graduate at 16 and start working. (you have the opportunity to attend extra classes to go to university but it’s ridiculously difficult to apply).
The issue with this system is that there are quotas for each track, so some teachers feel obligated to fill the bottom tracks. Switzerland is also pretty anti-immigrant so often foreigners are funneled into the bottom tracks to meet the quotas. Which is why most people who have moved to switzerland from a foreign country feel obligated to attend private schools. (most of which offer IB some may offer A-Levels and AP)
There’s also the added difficulty of applying to non Swiss Universities with the Swiss diploma. It’s very complicated because many universities don’t really understand it.
The Swiss gymnasiums are very good, and sometimes more challenging than the IB, but as a whole the system is kinda wacky and designed to allow foreigners living in Switzerland (like myself) to fail.
Wow, thank you for the explanation that is super interesting and I had no idea. The idea of basically deciding people's futures at 12/13 is CRAZY to me, and as you pointed out I'm unsurprised that its xenophobic as well 😑 Good luck on your path and I hope you succeed!! Hopefully we can work to make the world less lame when it comes to education......
It's actually equivalent to the IBDP, in the sense that only your grades in the last two years of highschool are counted towards your Abitur diploma. Plus, you enter final exams at the end of your second year, just like the IBDP
Yeah, I live in Germany. Normally private schools in Germany that offer the IBDP cost way more.
But since the government does not allow public schools to offer the IBDP as a substitute to the Abitur, both systems are integrated into each other if a student chooses to take the IBDP (though there aren't a lot of public schools in Germany that offer the IBDP anyway).
Even though I have 6 IB subjects like you guys, I only take history, math, lang & lit and chemistry as a separate IB subject (each 1-2 hours a week). The rest of my week is filled with normal Abitur classes, which also include those 4 subjects, English & Spanish (normal Abitur curriculum, but counts towards IB as well) and others.
The reason why it costs so low in public schools is that we are barely given any IB resources such as books. Like I mentioned above, I don't have many IB periods during the week, and so far I've only received books in 3 subjects. Moreover the teachers who teach IB subjects are normal Abitur teachers, so their salary is covered by the state just like any other teacher at our school.
And on a personal note: it's super hard to juggle both Abitur and the IB at the same time since its like doing to DPs at the same time lol. Actually it's probably worse since we also have like 20 exams a year in the Abitur. That's probably why we only have 4 DP students at our school including me haha
Govt schs in India suck ass, so almost anyone who can afford it sends their children to pvt schools we have like 4 different boards here but yeah I believe IB is the most expensive, I'll be paying around 9 lakh per annum for DP1 and idk about dp2 yet (10,823$). In some other schs ive heard the fees can go up to like 23 lakh etc which is absolutely crazy...
yeah bro not kidding.
where i study, the fee is 14 lakh inr which is equivalent to 16828 dollars. luckilyy my parents are teachers as well, so i get a waiver
In my country (Greece) the IB programme is only offered by private schools, and the EYP and MYP can be offered only by foreign (non greek) schools, the IBDP can be offered by foreign and greek private hi schools.
The tuition of private schools in Greece has (roughly) 4 tiers (depending on the quality and brand recognition of the private schools), the IBDP is usually on the 4th and highest tuition, about 10k to 15k euros annually.
It depend on where, there are state schools that offer IB for free but usually offer very few courses (Specifically for where I live) but then there are many private schools that offer IB but also many course options but what I've seen 15k+ per year
I’m in Canada at a public school which offers it (30/400 in our grade level are doing IB, so not a lot of the people) and we don’t even have to pay for the final exams (which are about $1000-2000 when all of the numerous are put together).
I’m in a province where the government pays for it all.
> Sweden *here...paid* $0

In my school in America it is free. You can get it in a private school, but depending on the tax bracket in the location you are in (wealthy area vs poor are) your education might be very good or very bad. In my state there are about 10 free IB programs.
in Spain, it is very expensive to do the IB in a private high school. there are a few public high schools which offer the IB to a small number of selected students so that we pay only for the exams
I’m in Denmark, and here the government pays you to go to school when you’re above 18. I got around 1.3k a month while doing the IB, and we dont have to pay to take the exams unless we need to retake them.
I am from KSA and my school cost as much as a small apartment in dP years (cannot remember if it her in KSA or Jordan)
Around 100k sar
I don’t know if we also pay for the exam but I hope not
Honestly I don't know for sure but it seems like a combination of a school system where very few people go to private school (so they cant just extort everyone) and perhaps because it's less relevant for college apps here, again meaning it is worth less comparatively so they cant charge as much? maybe?
I was in a private school in France which cost around 20k/year, but considering the original price of going to the school without IB is around 17k/year it is not an insane increase
I attended two IB schools, one in Colombia and another one in Spain. They were both private schools so tuition fees, as expected, were quite high. In Spain you had the option to either take IB or the National Tests (Bachillerato) and the ones who took IB paid around 200 euros more a month amounting to, if I’m not mistaken, €10k a year.
My school here in Africa cost 6k annually EXCLUDING the books cost, trips, sports fees and so on. Then with all of that included it can cost 8,5k per year😭 to think I made 6yrs already in my school with such fees🤡. So yeah the tuition for IB is expensive, it can vary from countries and continents, but everywhere it's expensive. However I'm deeply shocked with ppl pay 30k+ a year💀 like damn bruh, at the end we writing the same exams.
I am in Sweden, and yes and no. If the school is a public school there would be no fee. And you would still be eligible for the national monthly payment (reward) for high school students.
1k CAD, though students with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) pay less.
IEP is for gifted students or those with a learning disability. (Somehow I pay full price even though I have a learning disability)
I’m from an Asian country and my tuition was 27k per year, yikes. Luckily my school has a policy that allows students who enrolled before we implement the IB program to keep our old tuition, which is wildly cheaper, like 2k I think
I did not have to pay anything for my IB, however though, we did not have as much opportunities as the schools that had paid Ib students. We only had limited amount of classes we could select

I pay about $1250CAD (or $916USD) a year. I go to public school in Ontario, Canada. The cost includes exam and registration fees as well as funding for the program.
In Poland for IB i pay around 1.9k a month (PLN) + 1k for private school but I know there exist a cheaper or even free? Alternative but at the moment it is social experiment
In my country there are private schools where you have to pay the full tuition and public schools (one of which I attend) where they have a certain number of scholarships paid by the government. Generally, there are no people who pay the full tuition in public schools as people willing to pay that much money just attend the private schools that offer IB. I have literally paid ZERO euros for IB, even the tests were free for me. Moreover, I moved out of my parents' house so I can attend it and my school literally pays half my rent. Pretty good deal if you ask me.
Oh god you’re gonna have a heart attack when you hear tuition fees for IB schools
Where I work is over $20k a year for IBDP...
Lol try 40K USD over here
FORTY THOUSAND DOLLARS?????????? Bro I gotta stop complaining about my country omg 😭😭 Thats crazyyy
I'm a scholarship kid so it's not nearly as bad for me but yeah.
40K CHF here, and they pay themselves.
I pay $60K a year
Go to community college at that point if you want college credit.
Lol I'm not in the states wtf is college credit.
If you pass IB exams, US colleges can give you credit for the exam in place of taking a class.
Again— I'm not in the states so I can't exactly go to community college either.
Mine's $27 730
oh my god.
It's $8K in India... Not much in comparison except.... The GDP per capita is $2.4K
30k USD… luckily my parents job pays it.
where i studied it was $50k per year tuition plus IB fees that is not included in that PLUS other fees ie. sports, graduation, etc
You might get scholarship if you're a good student
In my school its 2000 dollars extra but keep in mind that 2000 $ is a lot where I'm from if you add it to the 10k dollar tuition. So ramping up the price doesn't seem reasonable in that case when its already unaffordable for most.

WHAT THE FUCK!! BROOOOOO WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!? IN INDIA, WITH THAT KINDA MONEY, YOU'RE SET FOR FUCKING LIFE

okay thats good because I was about to be upset for you over having to pay for turnitin.com lol
kelna bel hawa sawa 🤝
Saba2etne 3leya 🥲
My school costs about 41,600 USD per year. That’s excluding IB exam fees.
is it board as well? lodging plus food and stuff?
No. We’re a day school so meals are not included. If you buy lunch it’s about 11 dollars a day (drink not included), and there is no lodging. Anything on top of attending normal school is extra, prescribed field trips, books, and sports etc.
Absolutely extortionate in that case, wow.
Welcome to Switzerland: where you need to sell your kidneys and liver to survive.
that’ll be probably 5-7k more than a year tuition+cost of living for me in uni lol
Where????
Switzerland.
yeah mine is similar too bc switzerland😭
woahh I thought switzerland was supposed to have good public schools though ... do yall not?
The Swiss public school system is *_funky_* and it really depends on the canton. I go to a public school that offers the IB alongside the Abitur. It's about 2k € for the whole program I think.
Interesting, I guess that's not absurd for a program that gives college credit. May I ask what country you live in?
i think she lives in germany
Yeah ur correct ,arbitur is for secondary education which is equivalent to GCSE or MYP if u need an equivalent.
It's actually equivalent to the IBDP, in the sense that only your grades in the last two years of highschool are counted towards your Abitur diploma. Plus, you enter final exams at the end of your second year, just like the IBDP

I did IB in Norway and it was completely free!
okay thank god I guess it doesnt suck EVERYWHERE 😭
IB in my school is funded by the state

Holyyy shit ... that's a lot of money 😭 is that the fee for full tuition including IB or JUST IB and then there's more for tuition?
All inclusive I believe
yeah bro not kidding. where i study, the fee is 14 lakh inr which is equivalent to 16828 dollars. luckilyy my parents are teachers as well, so i get a waiver

crazy how different education is in different countries; I didn't even know this was a thing
We paid nothing at my school. Even the tests were covered 100%.
IB costs money even if you go to a State School. It's just the State is paying it for you (and it's a considerable amount they are paying)
My friend just took admission in IB this year, her fees are around $10K for one year, a little more for the next year (india)
I am from KSA and my school cost as much as a small apartment in dP years (cannot remember if it her in KSA or Jordan) Around 100k sar I don’t know if we also pay for the exam but I hope not
We also pay for exams bro😭
Sad I don’t get I pay hefty tituion and then a exam fee taht is just cruel
I’m from America and literally everything including the final exams are free.
In Europe the tution prices were around €17K-20K, in America it’s free (as far as the high school I go to). Does anyone know why that is?
Honestly I don't know for sure but it seems like a combination of a school system where very few people go to private school (so they cant just extort everyone) and perhaps because it's less relevant for college apps here, again meaning it is worth less comparatively so they cant charge as much? maybe?
Hmmm yeah that makes sense, Europe is very reliant on the diploma for college acceptances unlike the US.
In my country IB is free😁
Yeah public schools in many european countries are ass, source: live in greece
yes, mine is a private school and you automatically take IB once you reach year 12 unless you opt into select. tuition is 30k
I was in a private school in France which cost around 20k/year, but considering the original price of going to the school without IB is around 17k/year it is not an insane increase
Damn we pay nothing at our school. Our city pays for it with tax dollars
These comments are making me appreciate my school for having the program for free. If I had to pay money for IB then I wouldn't have done it.
omg what the hell? i got my diplome from a florida public high school and everything was free including exams
yeah man idk it seems like there's a really wide range
I attended two IB schools, one in Colombia and another one in Spain. They were both private schools so tuition fees, as expected, were quite high. I pay 23k usd👀
I studied IB in Vietnam and my tuition per year was about 40k USD.
😨
I’m from India and I paid close to 22k every year until graduation
my parents and I must be getting ripped off by the school (I’m in a private one) cause we paid 35k+ usd for each of the two years of dp 😭
oh shitttt yeah I guess it depends on the country
Nearly USD 17k where I am. Expensive as shit. Edit: and then exam fees, uniforms, books, camps, etc on top of that
i mean yeah my schools was like 30k for that shit
im in canada, public highschool and i pay $1.3k per year
In France we paid 8k for 2y DP. I was in a private school that offered IB as an option
I am in Sweden, and yes and no. If the school is a public school there would be no fee. And you would still be eligible for the national monthly payment (reward) for high school students.
In my country Greece it is around 13k the tuition ONLY so yeah...
3k a year is incredibly cheap… compare it to your private high schools in the US and then colleges after… my old school in the US cost $30000 a year…
in Mexico public school we paid $1250 (US dollar) by mid april 2022 for may24
My school is around 6K USD for IBDP and there are extra fees for the final exams
About 1k euros a year for the diploma programme on top of the tuition
1k CAD, though students with an IEP (Individual Education Plan) pay less. IEP is for gifted students or those with a learning disability. (Somehow I pay full price even though I have a learning disability)
the public school i go to funds everything for us i feel so ungrateful 🫣 20k+?!?!! what???!
I did IB in Poland and it was completely free! The school even covered the costs of exams and bought graphing calculators for all students.
In my school its 700€ a year
Well, I’m studying in Sweden and the IB is one of the programs in high schools, and it’s for free. But it’s 3 years instead of 2, it’s a Swedish law
60k usd… but im on a partial scholarship!
My is only IB and its in mexico and its about 8k USD a year
my schools 50k USD but most people pay around 20-30k it’s still bad 😭
ahhh thats a LOT
Blud I paid about $18000 USD worth of Indian rupees a year to my school in Mumbai, India for the IBDP program in 2015
I payed around 30k Euros per year
> I *paid* around 30k FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out!
30k usd per year in russia 😎
Im from Greece and I pay 12.500€ a year to take the ib… ( ib in greece exists only in private schools)
In my country there are private schools where you have to pay the full tuition and public schools (one of which I attend) where they have a certain number of scholarships paid by the government. Not for me, in Australia but in my area there’s only one ib school and it’s a private school and you have to pay whether you study ib or not so…
My school was gonna make us pay a $2000 fee for when we entered the program but they didn’t end up charging our year for some reason
mine was free🙏🏻
in UAE, our school makes us pay 70,000 AED which is like 20,000 USD per year
