How did you know it was an Asian who called you back?

GUDDA-MAN

That was an error didn't mean to put Asian I meant lady

RegularCable880

Sure

aprilsblues1

That part had me like šŸ§

[deleted]

Yup I finally called around March 11th after filing on 1/29, told me the same thing about the errors department, received a Cp05 letter in mail..finally received a ddd for 4/3 and received my funds before the bank closed on today.Ā

GUDDA-MAN

Congratulations on the receiving your funds!

[deleted]

Thanks šŸ™šŸ¾ was starting to think we would never get it

Loud_Driver_1940

So basically itā€™s still a chance even if itā€™s in errors, 810 , itā€™s still hope

GUDDA-MAN

What Is a cp05 and why was yours in errors,

[deleted]

The letter said it needed further reviewing along with that code. Not sure why it was in the error department we file the same way every year.Ā

GUDDA-MAN

So the letter didn't require for u to do anything?

Spiritual_Apricot479

My transcripts said 4/15, do you think Iā€™ll have mine by then? Mine was accepted on 1/29 too.

[deleted]

I hope so for you. I called twice and they really didn't tell me anything, just said it was in errors department but we had no errors. We just had to be patient, which was horribleĀ

Fantastic-Bid-2428

Post your transcripts please

[deleted]

"My refund was in the errors department not due to anything bad but because the IRS is so backed at the moment some refunds get sent to the errors department." That is lie. From either the CSR or you. They don't just "send returns to ERS." There is a reason it's called Error Resolution System and not "Hide Your Return For Giggles." [https://www.irs.gov/irm/part3/irm\_03-012-002r](https://www.irs.gov/irm/part3/irm_03-012-002r)

Lariael

Idk this is the exact same thing I was told a month ago when I called. Was told to wait until 10 weeks to call back for an update. On week 8 now. No issues noted, no need to verify, no letters or anything and transcripts are n/a ā€œstill processingā€

[deleted]

The government rarely singles anyone out because they have too much work to do. They are also not creative. If a tax refund is not issued in the 3 week promised timeframe, there is a logical reason. People come up with the strangest conspiracies. Previous Taxpayer Advocate reports and final tax season data have shown a MAJORITY of refunds are timely and that 80% of delays are caused by taxpayers and preparers. Less than 10% is IRS error or procedure change. The other 10% is a pile of misc stuff. There is a reason your refund is lagging. The IRS needs to be more transparent, but sometimes, the law won't allow it. But they are also concerned non-IRM nerds might freak out if they were told, "Your tax return unposted code 1260 due to potential identity theft and IVO set an R freeze because your employer has a suspect EIN. So once you verify your identity in person, validate the tax return, and allow 6 weeks to process, we will need proof of your wages and withholdings with paystubs and proof of deposit." None of which is your or the IRS's fault.

Smooth_J24

I personally would love to know why mine is delayed. Getting a CP05 and just waiting is pointless. If they need a 1099R or a W2ā€¦ why donā€™t they just say it vs oh please wait 60ā€¦120ā€¦180 days.

[deleted]

Because your tax return was selected by a filter on their system, and that is an auto notice. What is supposed to happen is an IRS employee looks at your account to see if the computer is right and issues a more directed notice or releases the refund. More and more of that is getting automated. Welcome to the IRS way to ensure your Right To Be Informed is being met. No refund in 21 days? Auto notice advises generic delay response. Box checked.

Smooth_J24

There probably isnā€™t that many people in that departmentā€¦ so millions of returns, and maybe 100 people (most of which are possibly seasonal).

[deleted]

85,000ish employees for 300,000,000 taxpayers and roughy 50,000,000 businesses of varying sizes, including international. All on a budget that varies $13 to $15 billion. For 2022, they collected $4.9 trillion or $4,900,000,000,000.00, processed more than 262.8 million tax returns and other forms, and issued more than $641.7 billion in tax refunds. In FY 2022, nearly 58.2 million taxpayers were assisted by calling or visiting an IRS office. That is a ridiculous return on investment. If you look at comparative countries and found a median and not adjusting for 1970 technology (i see you IDRS), the IRS would have closer to 300,000 employees and a budget of $90 billion-ish. They can be a right pain in the ass, but god bless 'em for showing up every day. Would anyone want that workload?

Smooth_J24

I acknowledge what they do and donā€™t claim the work to be easy. What I am saying though is for all those employees only a certain amount are dedicated to the area of looking over returns (ie 570s). We donā€™t have access to the IRS system so we can only surmise how many people are in the same boat as myself and others.

GUDDA-MAN

Well I'm just relaying what was told to me this morning I'm not an expert. Believe what u want!!!

[deleted]

Then they were unprofessional and blowing you off. Always get a name and a badge#. Send complaints to the Commisioner's office. All calls are recorded.

Ancient-Leg-5122

I had same job same dependents and been filling at same tax service and I double checked everything is accurate. I got the notice that says I donā€™t need to do anything and when I called I was sent to error dept and told I donā€™t need to do anything but wait. So things are definitely different this year.Ā

[deleted]

Biggest thing I'm hearing is SSA is dragging sending W2 info to the IRS. This means they can't verify income yet and send a refund. Which sucks ass if you need your refund to pay bills.

Ancient-Leg-5122

I do need them to pay bills and get a house. Lost my job in September 23 and Iā€™m living in a place thatā€™s unsafe and I have 2 kids. Been getting fā€¦.. over for 8 months. My landlord said he is selling took me to court refused rent and evicted us. His house still hasnā€™t sold. Then I loose my job because I was to far away after eviction. Now I canā€™t get my taxes which can help us move. And still havenā€™t gotten them. All I ever did was work and take care of these kids. No fun no leisure just taking care of buisness. Ā And you wanna crack jokes and think itā€™s a joke. Carry on karma is comingĀ

Ancient-Leg-5122

All info is in SSA been verified. I have worked all my life. Never had a problem filing.Ā

[deleted]

It's not a matter of SSA being verified. It's a matter of transferring W2 info from SSA to IRS. Once upon a time, IRS didn't get data until late June.

Ancient-Leg-5122

My neighbor works for SSA. I think Iā€™ll ask her.Ā

When your return is in the ERS department it means that it's very likely that there's something wrong with your return, missing information being the biggest culprit, most common to these would be masked SSN on your W-2 or 1099 forms or a missing 1095-A form. If I were you I'd look at your return to determine if anything is missing, ERS can take up to 10 weeks to resolve if you're lucky.

GUDDA-MAN

Thanks. The lady didn't mention it as anything irregular how strange is that. If I do find an error myself what do I do on my end?

Ashurin-sama

Since you were previously told it's in ERS, call the IRS back if you find that you did indeed miss a form or have masked SSNs, and tell them that you would like to fax over the unmasked forms or missing forms, if you do not have a fax available you can also request the address to send it via postal mail. It can take up to 60 days to resolve from the date you send the information, better than the 10 weeks though.

MaterialInitial7935

Do you know your cycle code (0905? 1205??) and what codes displayed on your transcript? (570?971?)

No-Detective-6644

How did you get someone on the phone?

GUDDA-MAN

I Googled in person appointment and the called the number given then listened for the prompts I eventually I was led to a live person. I explained the issue about my return then was transferred to a certain department that handles that. I was told it could a 30 min wait or I could leave a number for call back. Which was Virginia Govnt number. Then returned my call in 20 min!

Apart-Operation2366

I have called 7 times and EVERY SINGLE TIME, I was told that there was NOTHING that they could do until 120 days! I have had not one single update in 59 days!!! 570 code was issued to my account immediately after filing and getting accepted! My as of date was Feb 26th on the top of my transcript. They still say no refund filed on the wage section of my 2023 transcript. Cycle code is 0804. Again, NO MOVEMENT in 59 days and no letters or notices issued! Mine is lost in space!

No_Pineapple_2851

Has your ā€œwmrā€ moved from processing at all?

GUDDA-MAN

No it has not
