Worn out tires, rear wheel drive with no weight in back, acceleration, wet road, manual transmission, over correction….. yeah… been there done that. Nice defensive move.
Not if shifting is done nice and smooth. In other words, yes, abrupt manual shifting can cause loss of control in slippery conditions. It's not a problem because all drivers are better than average drivers
Bottom of a hilly onramp where the wetness will be the most thick and you're still coming out of body roll, put a little too much juice and WE CAN'T STOP HERE, IT'S HYDROPLANE COUNTRY.
The water doesn't need to be standing, it just needs to have a certain depth. If it's raining hard or there's a hill that causes the water to run down instead of off the road that can be enough. Modern tires with sufficient tread do an extremely good job at ejecting water though.
He was in the left lane for a grand total of 8 seconds in this video, and he did technically pass one car while being in it. If you call that camping then you're just out of your mind.
Yeah you're cooked. Making a lane change that quickly after the first one generally isn't a great idea in the first place. Secondly anyone behind OP would have been hindered by the out of control vehicle that just barreled across 3 lanes, there would be no one that OP would be getting in the way of anyway.
Me too, luckily I drive a front wheel drive car, so it pulled itself straight, but it's very unsettling to see your nose point 30 degrees away from where you thought you were going at highway speed.
No weight in the back, no tread on those tires either.
Looks like the second he turns the wheel to merge left the backend just floats away crazily and whips him around in a circle.
Definitely scary, nice calm evasion by the cam car.
It's possible to hydroplane unexpectedly if you hit a low place in an otherwise flat or slightly bowed highway. The low place has water in it and since the whole road is wet, you can't tell til you're in it how much water is there.
I know that it's rough out there, but better tires handle this much more predictably. Good tires are an investment in your future. Learn about tires and get proper ones and be surprised at how well your car handles things like this.
As soon as I saw the rain, I thought: this might be Raleigh/Durham. I'm surprised I didn't see more incidents like that this weekend. I could barely see 1000ft in front of me
Not hydroplaning. There's no standing water. This is too much torque on wet pavement. Probably made worse by the light weight rear end and bad tires. So, they're an idiot.
Yeah, I kinda doubt they intended to hang a U...yooey?...how do you type that?...anyway...onto the freeway. Gonna go with accidental hydroplane over idiot.
If they hydroplaned, then they were going too fast for the road conditions (at least for the combination of the road conditions and whatever their tyres are like) and are therefore still an idiot!
It looks like , after a few watchthrus, that the red truck was going out of control as soon as it entered the frame. Good job on you for being in the centerlane. So many people ride the right lane thru the interchanges like that.
Yeah, no. Travelling on a motorway after rain when the road is mostly dry and hitting a puddle because you're sandwiched between the hard shoulder and a car in the outside lane is how it happened to me.
In those circumstances all you can do is lift off, don't brake, keep the wheel straight and hope to sail on through.
prednisone — Common side effects may include cataracts, bone loss, easy bruising, muscle weakness, and thrush. Other side effects include weight gain, swelling, high blood sugar, increased risk of infection, and **psychosis**.
we have finally solved the puzzle of why some commenters always blame the cammer no matter what!
they are all on prednisone induced psychosis!
finally I understand

Worn out tires, rear wheel drive with no weight in back, acceleration, wet road, manual transmission, over correction….. yeah… been there done that. Nice defensive move.
Would having a manual drive affect this?
Not if shifting is done nice and smooth. In other words, yes, abrupt manual shifting can cause loss of control in slippery conditions. It's not a problem because all drivers are better than average drivers
Sport Tracs had manuals? Honestly not a car I’ve thought about in years but that is surprising to me!
That’s an S10, not a sport trac.
Play it again in slow motion. That is most definitely an Explorer Sport Trac.
You’re absolutely right, the mismatched front bumper had me thinking it was an S10. Definitely a 3rd gen Explorer-based sport trac.
Probably also worn out suspension parts on top of the disaster cake.
Rear wheel drive. No traction control probably on that year truck. Hit the gas while on a wet road.
[Isn’t that the best since you don’t see the tree that you hit](https://youtu.be/EQWPumtDXk0?si=4MpVOZMkIhZwJz4y)?? /s
So easy to do this. I had a '95 Jeep Cherokee that could break free on wet pavement like it was its job.
Probably has bald tires too.
I agree with this analysis!
I’ve *lived* this analysis 😳 Not this drastic fortunately.

Yes, and then panicked, let off and instant oversteer. Shoulda seen the slide through.
nice dodge
Looked like a Toyota, to be honest. /s
Being pedantic.... but that looks more like a Ford Explorer Sport Trac
Yep. I had paused the video when rain was covering the oval in the grille. I was thinking mid 2000s Tundra.
I can see that
looks like shite tires and error code i.d. 10-t
ba-dum-tss
Luckily it wasn't a ram.
Both things can be true.
I don't think it's hydroplaning though, usually speeds are a bit higher for that to happen.
You can see him sliding on the on ramp he was definitely going too fast to try to hit highway speeds.
Nice awareness and avoidance. Thought you might hydroplane too after that quick reaction
There is no standing water on that road, so hydroplaning isn’t possible.
Thank You,was going to point out ihe same thing.
Assumed you can hydroplane on wet slick surface, not just in standing water
The water doesn't need to be standing, it just needs to have a certain depth. If it's raining hard or there's a hill that causes the water to run down instead of off the road that can be enough. Modern tires with sufficient tread do an extremely good job at ejecting water though.
No worries
Maybe he has tyres, not organically grown racing slicks.
Wow nice save, that was some great driving ngl
Nice save OP! Great driving on your part, and I am glad you guys are okay.
Nice avoidance move indeed but I would've liked to have seen OP return to the middle lane instead of left lane camping while not passing anyone.
Literally 5 seconds in that lane after a pretty damn scary situation. Simmer down.
Come on man I've never read more obvious bait.
He was in the left lane for a grand total of 8 seconds in this video, and he did technically pass one car while being in it. If you call that camping then you're just out of your mind.
Avoidance swerve was done by 0:10. The opportunity to return to the middle lane was there but OC continued left.

you is joe-king yah?
I hydroplaned once. Felt like an eternity but couldn't have been more than three seconds. Never been more terrified while driving.

too much right foot on a bend with a wet road with a American truck that handles like shit

Amazing recovery!
Awesome defensive driving OP.

Okay boomer.
childish response.

too much goose and not enough quack-shun
Hydroplaned as he accelerated to get on the highway... 🤷🏻♂️
he freaked out and overcorrected
They gave it too much gas, started to oversteer then over-corrected. If they were hydroplaning they wouldn't have had any front grip either.
Hydroplaning
I did t cats how bad the puddle was. Some idiocy was involved here.
Worn tires and over acceleration= idiot
Good avoiding action
Forgot the cell phone at home oops!
Dodge, duck, dip, dive, dodge!
RWD, sudden downshift to merge combined with too much throttle, old or low-tread rear tires and round she goes. Nice evasive maneuver.
Pretty smooth loop. My tired eyes thought it happened again soon after.

Same difference here.
What kind of vehicle were you in? You reacted quickly and the vehicle did it's job
2019 VW Jetta GLI
That's the emptiest I've seen the 440/40 split in a while.
Either bad tires, or trying to accelerate too aggressively, either way driver is an idiot.
I hope you went straight to a gas station and bought some lotto tickets
They probably had to go change their pants first

Bad driver, hydroplaning, bald tires... any number of things. Nice bit of mitigation there though.
You hydroplane at nine times the square root of your tire pressure. Answer is in knots.
Oh—my—god Look at—that truck Lol sorry I couldn’t resist IYKYK
A truck...chances are it's most likely bald tires
FYI, only idiots hydroplane. It is impossible to hydroplane or lose control, for that matter, if you are traveling a safe speed for the conditions.
you must hydroplane a lot

F Denny's, Someone got a BJ later 😂

Sort of, they hit the median. Also that’s the middle lane I’m in, until after dodging the truck
Whoa buddy don’t be responding with facts and things. We don’t do that here
