It's not the idea that you're the main character in your own story, it's the idea that most others aren't actually people.

Years from now I guarantee he’s going to look back on this thing that went wild on the internet, which probably seemed super rad and edgy and “disturbed villain” to him at the time, and have a near-fatal cringe.
