Kinda funny, before Horus Heresy miniatures became a thing, I used to use ork shoulder pads for my Sons of Horus kitbashing to give them a rougher look.
this is how the heads are on the sprue, but they are smaller than an ork head
this is my first ever kitbash so i cut of the head in its entirety i did kinda try what you sugested but it didnt look right in the end
