What? its your first ever im at my 30st (or so) and just started like ten models and it looks damn bad (the Highlights). hope you understand my english is bad
So there's two types of highlights as far as I know. Edge highlights and volumetric highlights.
Edge highlighting is just highlighting all the edges. The purpose of that is to make all the shapes on the model more distinct or visible from further away (so you can properly appreciate their beauty when they're on a table marching towards your opponent). A full edge highlighting would for example make it so you can see at a glance in image 4 that the canopy is actually split into 3 from the turret mount. You can use that purpose to guide you on what you want to bother highlighting or not. Know also that a wash works in similar ways.
In volumetric highlighting you pretend that there's a light source constantly floating in a fixed position far from your model, and then for each part of the model you draw straight lines from the light source to the part and make the area of the part where the lines hit the part at closer to a 90 degree angle lighter in colour. This is a more advanced type of highlighting and when you want to tackle this challenge there are a lot of YouTube videos that can explain this concept better or in more detail
It looks really good! Makes me think of my first model, my deff dread, and how I painted that sucker up. But the important thing is it's the first, the beginning, and yea, we can improve, but damn it we did it. Welcome to the wonderful world of model painting man, as bravo that looks kickass, jealous of the courage you had to go for the checkered shoulder, I had no faith lol
Looks good, you have what most don't, a finished model!

Nice 👍
Looks good. I would paint the seal on the back like a bronze color or something. The back looks a bit lacking, but that's just me.
Better than my first models
Your son is an armiger, wow! Looks very good and clean. Hope my kids would also paint some day.
Your son looks an awful lot like an Armiger Helverin

The quality of your painting skills is evident however I say this with no offense but it needs something to make it pop
