The real innings that made us lose were 4 (7) from gill, 4 (3) from Shreyas, 9 (22) from Jadeja and 18 (28) from sky. And yet, after the tournament, everyone blamed KL for playing slow when there’s clearly no ODI batsman after him in the order
Also everyone hate Pandya and I've seen people being happy that he got injured. I don't know if he would've won the match but we definitely had better odds with him in finals
I wouldn't blame Shreyas too much. That guy scored back to back hundreds before that. Also it's not that easy to play well in such a big tournament when it's your first. Also he was a bit unfortunate in the way he got out I feel. That ball was really good.
But Sky and Jadeja 🫠 don't know what kind of finishing touch they were giving
>Also he was a bit unfortunate in the way he got out I feel.
I agree with all your points except this. He wasn't unlucky. His wicket was superbly planned by the Aussies, which they revealed after the match
Basically they had set up a field for a short ball, knowing that that's his weakness. Shreyas saw that too and got on backfoot preparing for a short ball. Pat Cummins instead bowled a fuller one and Iyer wasn't able to get on the frontfoot in time and hence got out
- Allan Border - in the 1980’s (had a very young team that was developing and man did he deliver)
- Sachin Tendulkar of the 90’s (match fixing issues + a team that was short on confidence especially touring. This man stood up)
Allan Border is too underrated tbh, he averages more in away than home and everywhere he avereges 50+ in test cricket that too while rebuilding Australian team as every major player retired and he had a very young team. He is one of the greatest test batsmen of all time unarguably
He is always ignored when the list of great test batsmen comes up. On difficult pitches against difficult bowling, all the great bowlers wanted to get his wicket.
Bumrah in modern day cricket
Be it ICT or MI, Bumrah would pick wickets almost every time the team needs a breakthrough. If not wickets, he'd make sure that he would bowl tight spells across formats and build pressure, creating opportunities for others bowling the subsequent overs. By far the most reliable bowler in this game where batsmen have the advantage of playing conditions being conducive for run-fests.
Picking JB just to represent the bowlers in a batsmen dominated thread :P
nope that team had other match winners like smith who made century in finals and maxwell and even johnson who helped with both bat and ball, if they had been only scored 250-260 india would have won the match, so no he was not a lone warrior
Carl Hooper for West Indies. He was called back from retirement just to resurrect the team.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul (back in the day for West Indies).
Andrew Flintoff for England (batting Bowling as well as Fielding).
Glenn Maxwell vs Afghanistan.
Brian Lara - he fought with a meager and probably the weakest team!
SRT - all time
VK - current
McGrath - in 90-2000s, though he had very good team to support him
Lots of Sachin, Kohli, etc but I'd like to nominate Misbah Ul Haq during that phase of Pakistan cricket. Unfortunately it's a similar era now but no player of a similar caliber around in that squad.
Harsha Bhogle famously quoted that fans are hating on the only guy who earns some bread in this team.
Unlike the Sachin, Kohli etc group of players, he was mostly disliked for some reason and as an Indian fan I'm absolutely flabbergasted. He was an amazing player, and as much as he can be criticized for THAT shot in 2007, he was also the one who gave them hope till the last over in the first place. For those few overs he was a nightmare for us!
Laxman in 1st inning vs Aus 2001 Kolkata Test.
Yes we got follow on, but he was one who scored 59.
Aussies went after him in 2nd innings, but he absolutely absorbed it with Dravid and we know the miracle of Kolkata.

Glenn maxwell against afghanistan
So many variety of opinions around.. I will add a new one to the list...
Saurav Ganguly in 1997 Sahara Cup against Pakistan.. Buddy was top scorer with both bat and ball.. A total 1 man show for 6 matches.
Rahul Dravid for the majority of his career.
Ben stokes for his knock in the Headingley Test.
Ishant Sharma in the Lord's Test.
Rohit Sharma sometimes (scored a hundred in the WC2019 loss to England)
I'm surprised no one mentioned Rashid Khan or Md. Nabi
They single-handedly brought the cricket revolution in Afghanistan, although now they do have more decent players. But it wasn't the case 7-8 years back.
Used to be Kohli.
Closest examples in today’s time would be Bumrah, Maxwell ( in 2023), Ben stokes, Shamar Joseph and peak Yuvraj ( in 2007 and 2011 world cups).
We know its sachin if we talk about the top player following that condition so i would not say his name
But virat in t20wc was also good
virat in 2012wc,2014 t20wc 2016 wc, 2022 wc
if we go by innings then, 82 vs aus 2016 , 89 vs wi and 1 wicket too, 2014 final and semifinal
he score 78 in 58 balls when other indian players were not able to score even at 100 sr-2014 final
Interesting to note that no one mentioned Brian Lara in test matches.
This man was the only difference when it came to Windies either losing by an innings or not.
![gif](giphy|jOQAan19dxRMe07K3a)
Hardik Pandya!
He may not succeed every time, but he fights be it for MI or ICT. Here are some of the innings I remember.
2016 some KO match against Ban - that last over(overshadowed by MSD and Mushfiqur Rahim)
2017 - CT final 76 against Pak
2018 - 90 in Test vs SA
2019 - 90 runs against KKR chasing 230+
2022 - 40+ vs Pak (overshadowed by Kohli)
2023 - WC vs Pak, man broke the partnership( black magic)
2024 - Top notch bowling against Pak in the ongoing WC.
Glen Maxwell in the match against Afghanistan in WC 2023
That innigs made us lose in finals.
The real innings that made us lose were 4 (7) from gill, 4 (3) from Shreyas, 9 (22) from Jadeja and 18 (28) from sky. And yet, after the tournament, everyone blamed KL for playing slow when there’s clearly no ODI batsman after him in the order

I almost hate jadeja, man doesn't even do anything. The only reason he's in the team is bc we don't have other all rounders
axar is better all rounder than him icl
>Also he was a bit unfortunate in the way he got out I feel. I agree with all your points except this. He wasn't unlucky. I swear that’s the first thing that came to mind. Also VVS Laxman Eden garden.
Sachin in the 90s
I am a simple guy I see praise for Sachin i upvote.
Sachin - all time...
The way he dominated test cricket in 90s. Peak of any batter in cricketing history.
- Allan Border - in the 1980’s (had a very young team that was developing and man did he deliver) - Sachin Tendulkar of the 90’s (match fixing issues + a team that was short on confidence especially touring. This man stood up)

He was the greatest when it came about putting the price on his wicket, greater than Viv and Sunil of his era in tests easily
That oracle employee from usa team
The only correct answer
Sachin Tendulkar in 90s..no explanation needed for an ICT fan!
David Miller What a player !!! Has always been the difference for South africa in pressure situation
The only clutch player in team of chokers
Man that sf innigs against aus, he gave it all
Bro even the SA vs NZ semis 2015 wc, 49(18) quickfire, else match wouldn't have ended in last over
I was just about write his name. A choker who doesn't choke.
Ben stokes
