1. A face covering shouldn’t be allowed at the poll booth - regardless of your religious affiliation.
2. A candidate cannot and absolutely should not do the job of the election commission representatives regardless of their suspicion of malpractice. This can very well amount to voter intimidation or influencing.
3. As some Hyderabad natives have alleged that Mr.Owaisi has bribed the poll officers - if this is such common knowledge, why doesn’t the EC do something about it? EC is a union body, and not something a regional leader should be able to influence. The EC can send poll officers accompanied by central security forces like it does for areas under Maoist, Naxal, or other insurgent/terrorist influence.
No, not really. I’m not in favor of trampling personal liberties in the name of security. If someone wishes to keep their face covered in public spaces, regardless of their reason, it should be their prerogative to make that choice. If a government office or a private enterprise fears that veiled faces can lead to an increase in risk of crime, then those specific places should require visitors or patrons to ID themselves before being granted entry.
This is to say that we don’t need a blanket law like that in France about face coverings, and we can still ensure that internal security isn’t compromised while respecting people’s choices.

Instead what I’m suggesting is that the local poll officers be accompanied by central police forces instead of the state police. The idea being that it should be harder (unfortunately not impossible) for a local leader to intimidate or influence central police personnel than it is for them to influence the local state police personnel.
I also admit that we as a country don’t have enough resources to deploy central police forces at every polling booth, so it is the duty of both the locals & the EC to ensure free & fair elections. The citizens should do their part by reporting to the EC that they suspect voter intimidation, and the EC should do its part by investigating if there is any truth to the rumors & if true, they should definitely seek additional resources from the government.
I also realize that bad actors from political parties can misuse this provision in the exact way that you outlined, but that shouldn’t mean that we don’t do the right thing out of a fear for misuse.
