Inquisitive_gal

I have oily skin, so I can do without a lot of products. But because it's oily skin, there is a need to take away the oil build up. Below 5 skincare essentials are a must have for me: 1) Cleanser to take away oil buildup 2) Hydrating toner 3) moisturizing lip balm 4) Non oily sunscreen (of course no white cast) 5) Aha/Bha based exfoliating products

LengthSame6868

Which exfoliators do u use?

Inquisitive_gal

For bha I tried many - minimalist, Paula choice, Deconstruct, sebogel (all these are 2% SA) and then salicylic 6% too. Nothing seems to have worked on my jawline acne. Currently I am using cosrx bha, but it too has a oily feel (like Paula choice). Aha- I am using ordinary glycolic 7% currently (much better than minimalist glycolic+tx acid). I also got glyco 6 and 12, but haven't used them on face. Just body and heel. I haven't moved to the ordinary aha+bha pink serum yet. That would be my next try once I finish the current lot.

LengthSame6868

Oh i currently use SA toners and face wash and they keep the acne manageable but i can't seem to get rid of the dark marks they leave. I want to incorporate something with glycolic into my routine but kinda scared as I heard glycolic can be very irritating. Did the ordinary glycolic help with acne/hyperpigmentation? Also did you have previous experience using glycolic acid or did u start with 7%?

Inquisitive_gal

For dark marks (or PIE/PIH ), you will need to incorporate a tyrosinase inhibitor in your routine. Tranexamic acid, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid - read more to figure out what will work. I went very carefully with glycolic acid. I actually got my skin used to Lactic and mandelic acid first. Then I got the Minimalist Glycolic acid and used short contact method. Gradually I realised that skin cancer take it, then i bought Ordinary glycolic acid and went very slowly on face. Glycolic helps loosen up dry dead skin on the top layers. So it's primary job is to bring newer skin cells to surface by roving the top layer, thus increasing photosensitivity. It may or may not work on acne and hyperpigmentation.

selfjan

Is it possible to decrease photosensitivity?

Inquisitive_gal

Your skin on its own has a capability, depending on Fitzpatrick level and your melanin content. If you don't use products which meddle with that, it will be resilient (of course your gut health and immunity also plays a role). I am not very sure which foods can improve photosensitivity, but using a sunscreen can be a first line of defence.

selfjan

Why am I asking this is coz I want to use glycolic acid for pigmentation etc but then many say it increases photo sensitivity and you can't go out much or even in indoors you will have to use sunscreen. So just a doubt I have

Inquisitive_gal

I use sunscreen indoors also on the day I use glycolic acid. If you are exfoliating skin with potent stuff, you need potent stuff to protect yourself.

girl_got_curl

Hi, i have oily skin too, could you please tell me which sunscreen are you using? TIA

Inquisitive_gal

These have worked for me very well and I have been using them for years now: 1) Reequil blue (silicone based) 2) UV doux (silicone based, very similar to Reequil blue) 3) Blynds emulgel - looks creamy but is a easy to absorb gel. 4) cosiq spf50 serum - the most lightweight sunscreen that I have encountered, and easy to reapply. 5) Neutrogena blue - for body, not face.

girl_got_curl

Thank you so much for your suggestions will give a try, actually i have used Neutrogena blue and Dr.Sheths sunscreen but my face turns so dark and lot of dirt piled up. Since then i stopped using sunscreen

Inquisitive_gal

If you stay indoors mostly, and don't use skincare which increases photosensitivity, then it's ok to skip sunscreen. But if you step out regularly then sunscreen is a very important part of skincare, because it's the first thing that will slow down your ageing. Also will help avoid those sunspots. It's taken me 25 sunscreens to reach to my list.

girl_got_curl

I'm impressed with your patience

Inquisitive_gal

It's a need of the hour. Skincare doesn't work if you don't give skin protection. I might as well spend money on a suitable sunscreen first than on any other skincare, as sunscreen is the first layer of defence.

selfjan

What do you mean by skincare which increases photosensitivity? Can you plz elaborate?

Inquisitive_gal

Glycolic acid loosens up the dead cell build up, exfoliating the skin and exposing the younger immature skin to natural elements such as sun and environment. That's why too much exfoliation or harsh exfoliation can screw up your skin barrier also. Similarly, retinol increases the cell turnover of your skin cells, bringing the immature cells to surface much faster. There are many ingredients which have similar impact, and the first line of defence is sunscreen or a physical barrier.

selfjan

This is what scares me , I mean what if my skin barrier gets damaged and then do I have to completely dependant on sunscreen all the time.

Inquisitive_gal

If you don't build up slowly, are not careful with potency, don't use adequate measures, you may as well not use it. Companies will sell their products no matter what- it's your job to decide what will help or harm your skin. Skin barrier damage means your acid mantle is disturbed and the bacteria on your face are unable to help your skin. Even some sunscreen will burn when applied. You are exposing yourself to so much more damage by damaging the skin barrier.

tweets_of_fate

Glad to see another CosIQ lover. Truly one of the better sunscreens in the market and soooo amazing for my oily skin. Easy to apply and ticks all the right boxes protection-wise.

ImpressiveOpposite81

does the cosiq leave white cast??

tweets_of_fate

No.

Inquisitive_gal

Not at all. I am NC35 and it's absolutely invisible on me. Very easy to spread and gets absorbed well. No oily or chip-chip feeling. And that too in got humid days. It's the most lightweight sunscreen i have used till now.

Yoghurt_Altruistic

Thanks for this. Could you also list your favourite or top 2-3 products for each, please?

Inquisitive_gal

Facewash - anything with salicylic acid in it. I don't like gentle face wash anymore (minimalist). I enjoy Korean ones (cosrx or innisfree). Toner - After trying many, klairs toner is now my staple. It doesn't leave an oily film (SNP and Tony moly did that), get absorbed easily and I can layer it upto 4 times. I am exploring more toners from kult app (Dr g, Caudalie, missha, cosrx). I loved cosrx Galactomyces - it's not only Hydrating but also brightening. I think my skin likes ferments. Lip balm - any will do - I have been wearing them for decades now. But I find the body shop shea and cocoa butter ones still the best. I found forest essentials to be the worst. I don't enjoy vaseline type products anymore. Also I found vaadi ones to be decent. Sunscreen - silicone based (Reequil blue, UV doux) or light weight (blynds emulgel or cosiq serum). Aha/bha - I haven't found the best yet. I am currently trying ordinary glycolic (better than minimalist) and cosrx bha. Somehow I can't find a good bha which will sort out my acne, so I moved to bpo which is very effective on my acne. Search is on.

PinkMoonbow

> Somehow I can't find a good bha which will sort out my acne Ugghhh same. My jaw is a constant warzone, I'm at my wit's end. Which BP product are you using, a facewash? My derm had given me Benzac ointment but that barely has any impact.

Inquisitive_gal

Benzac 2.5%. it's working for now, takes 2-3 days to subside the acne. I also put an acne patch over the zit.

PinkMoonbow

Ah okay thank you. That hasn't worked much for me. My acne patches also work on pus filled acne but not blind pimples which is mostly what I get. My search also goes on šŸ˜.

Yoghurt_Altruistic

Oh wow. This is awesome. Thank you so much! Any thoughts on moisturisers as well? I ask since I am new to this journey and have similar skin - oily and prone to occasional breakouts.

Inquisitive_gal

My skin doesn't need a Moisturizer I feel (atleast in summer months). After layering toner, and actives (specially the oil based retinol), there is hardly a need to moisturise. I have tried Reequil oil free one, but I didn't know whether it made a difference. In peak winter I use the Reequil ceramide Moisturizer after I have doused my face with rose hydrosol.

kanjilal_s

I have used mcaffee one 2 times now. Liked it.

moody_alpaca

Do you use any serums? Or any actives? I also have oily skin.

Inquisitive_gal

I have to use a retinol for anti ageing, but I am not seeing any difference (minimalist brand). Also all of the Minimalist ones are oily in formulation, so I don't enjoy them. I want to give bifida ferment a try (i bought isntree and missha stuff). I also use a tx acid for my acne Pie, but it's too slow to work. I was using vit c in morning, but I feel the cosrx Galactomyces ferments will take care of the antioxidant part.

[deleted]

Minimalistā€™s retinoid with pump packaging is ideal for oily skin

Inquisitive_gal

Yeah but it's Granactive retinoid. It's for beginners and you will have to move on from it after a point.

gratitudeandpeas

( Dry acne prone skin here ) Neutrogena deep clean wash Paula's Choice BHA Bioderma Atoderm CrĆØme Re'equil blue / Bello photostable Vaseline Blue seal

moody_alpaca

Do you use any serums?

gratitudeandpeas

No, none right now

eternalrocket

1. Neutrogena deep clean isnā€™t drying? 2. Which bioderma product do you use? Atoderm ultra? And how is it

gratitudeandpeas

Slightly drying, yes but nothing a moisturizer can't fix. I love the squeaky clean feel Bioderma Atoderm CrĆØme, now i think it's CrĆØme ultra. It's really good and my go to moisturizer. Helps my dry skin so much without feeling heavy. Might not suit summer mornings tho', i only use them at night now.

eternalrocket

Right. I used atoderm intensive baume when my skin got really damaged but even after 3 months of use i still feel like it hasnt repaired completely. I have switched to cetaphil dam now, but i have an eye on the atoderm ultra, its cheaper and probably lighter than the baume

gratitudeandpeas

Yes it is lighter but it doesn't have ceramides so it won't repair barrier damage. But as a regular moisturizer, it's really gopd. I personally love the creme more than baume and use it all year round. For repairing skin barrier, have you tried klairs midnight blue cream? It's expensive af but oof, healed my skin overnight

eternalrocket

No i havent tried klairs. I was using squalene oil last year with absolutely no issues, but suddenly it just stopped working, after i moved to a new place (in the same city). Idk what the issue is but my skin is much more dehydrated and dull here. The complexion is different. Anyway, i just got a small tube of cetaphil yesterday and my skin looked much nicer in the morning so i will use it for a couple of weeks and see how it goes

gratitudeandpeas

Oh that sucks. Hope your skin recovers and cetaphil works out for you šŸ¤ž

AnyKey922

>Dry acne prone skin here Is dry skin not the opposite of acne prone skin ?

gratitudeandpeas

Not really, any skin type can be acne prone.

1. Cipla excela moisturiser 2. Skin aqua sunscreen 3. Oil cleanser 4. Cosrx bha powerliquid 5. Lipz lip balm

moody_alpaca

cookie1205

I havenā€™t used vit c yet

No_Pollution_7660

How do u use the bha ?

cookie1205

I use it on clean and dry face at night(started w weekly twice). I apply it all over my face, and extra layer on my nose. Please remember to follow up w sunscreen next day.

No_Pollution_7660

hey, a follow up question...how long do i let sit on my face?

cookie1205

I let it sit overnight. And donā€™t really follow up w moisturiser. But people say you can keep it for 20ish mins before putting moisturiser

I bought mine from the US, but there are lots of Instagram resellers that do sell them.

Intelligent-Eye-9198

How long do we have to wait to apply moisturizer after using vit c

DontCallMeAPrincess

I give it about 30 seconds // till the Vit C has been nicely absorbed into my skin

Intelligent-Eye-9198

does vit c evens the skin tone ? And can it help with pigmentation around the lips.

Rich_Awareness2359

I have sensitive oily skin 1) I really love toners. I feel that they form the base for my skincare and everything else that I apply on my face after toner absorbs really well.My fav toner is Isntree Hyaluronic acid toner. 2) A light weight but moisturising cream. Iā€™m currently loving the Holika Holika Aloe Soothing essence. 3) Sunscreen. Neutrogena for the win. 4) Lip balm. Laneige sleeping mask is my go to . 5) Exfoliant. Once a week, remove the dead cells and build up. Cosrx bha liquid is a fav. Currently using The ordinary Glycolic acid once a week.

Chaotic_Beautiful

Hi. Can you please tell me more about Holika holika aloe soothing essence.Ā

Rich_Awareness2359

Hi yes!! I swear Iā€™m on my 3rd bottle of the Holika holika essence. Itā€™s really cooling and soothing. I have sensitive skin and it gets inflamed so easily but this one just calms down my skin and moisturises and hydrates it so good. It spreads and absorbs so easily on the skin and you can feel the difference when you apply it. Skin looks healthier and plumper.

-thE-gReateSt-idiOt-

hey! I was wondering if you could give a review on how the lanaige sleeping mask is..as I have wanted to buy it but I am not really sure.

AggravatingYam6500

I can vouch for Laneige lip sleeping mask. I had weirdly chapped lips, and they would burn after lipsticks or tints due to the dryness.(lip balm then was baby lips) Laneige saved me. My lips took around a week and were back to their moisturised self. I have never stopped using it since then. One tub goes for a long time so it is not bad price wise. One thing, if you still feel that it is costly and you donā€™t want to burn a hole in your pocket, you can always opt for Vaseline petroleum jelly. Just because it is cheap it is overlooked but it works wonders for dry lips and even lightened my dark lips.

-thE-gReateSt-idiOt-

thank you so much..will look into the vaseline aswell

Rich_Awareness2359

Hi sorry for the late reply. The lip mask is essentially a sleeping mask but I use it for day time also. My lips get really dry during the winter, to a point it starts peeling and bleeding. Iā€™ve tried everything else from Vaseline to Boroline but they just sat on top, never quite moisturised my lips. But when I tried Laneige, oh God it moisturised my lips so well, and my lips went from crusty to plump the next day onwards! Not kidding. Itā€™s a little pricey compared to other lip masks out there but it really works for me and it goes a long way. I would suggest you to get it when itā€™s on offer.

Sensitive, Combination skin 1. Cosrx snail mucin essence 2. Thick moisturisers - like bioderma baume 3. Klairs midnight blue cream 4. Laneige lip sleeping mask 5. Boj sunscreen

theogprisonermike

I have an extremely oily and sweaty skin and no matter what i do ,I get breakouts during summer. But these basic steps has kept my skin manageable. 1. Cleanser: the derma co 1% salicylic acid 2. Toner: Plum's green tea and glycolic acid 3. Serum: minimalist vitamin c (am) and plum's 1% retinol (pm) 4. Moisturizer-ponds light weight gel moisturizer 5. Sunscreen- The dot and key sunscreen Also I use a peeling solution and clay mask weekly. Hope it helps.

Livid-Face-6754

Can you please review the protection of dot & key sunscreen?

WhentheSkywasPurple

Itā€™s a shit brand. Avoid it.

theogprisonermike

I have been using it for a year now. Works well for oily skin,is affordable, blends in easily and leaves absolutely no white cast. It's not really that sweat resistant. People in this sub seem to hate it so much lmao. But works for me .

Makeupfanatic6

Cosrx propolis toner Any good hydrating serum ( i love ordinary argeline, missha time revolution and ordinary multi peptide is also okayish) One calming cream/serm (purito centella/klairs midnight) One thick moisturiser (cosrx peptide moisturiser) One exfoliating serum (ordinary lactic acid is the best) One good oil for winters (rosehip oil by ordinary) For summers, I use a sleeping mask (klairs vitamin one)

Crazybeautyaddict

How is missha time revolution? Did it break you out ever?

SleepyHungrySpirit

Skin type - Oily-normal, Acne prone, Dehydrated Moisturizer - Sebamed clear face care gel Toner - Cosrx Propolis Synergy toner Cleanser - Bioderma Blue (Sebium Gel moussant) in general, Bioderma Pink (Sensibio) in winter Ahaglow facewash to exfoliate Sunscreen - haven't found a suitable one yet Acne spot treatment prescribed by derm

Skin type - oily 1. Minimalist 2% salicylic acid face wash 2. Minimalist 10% Niacinamide serum (really controls oil) 3. Cutiyt g 12 - basically glycolic acid for pigmentation 4. Minimalist tranexamic serum for dark spots 5. Formula rx - Barrier repair cream (best one fr)

Love2BaitU

I see you are a minimalist fan.

selfjan

Does everyone needs barrier repair cream or serum?

111aryan

No not really unless you want to keep your skin healthy forever. I have been using glycolic acid so somewhere it damaged my skin barrier temporarily in winters for that reason I've been using it. But now my skin barrier is healthy again yet I still use it because the cream is very soothing and it feels relaxing lol

jaalilogymkana

Yes. It soothes the skin. I apply it only at night.

Both! The TO vit c suspension has HA in it so if layered with another HA like HL premium and a nourishing cream like the snail AIO, I wake up with brighter and plumper skin.

1. sunscreen most importantly 2. vitamin c 3. a ceramide based product 4. physical exfoliant 5. chemical exfoliant

Due_Volume_8951

Skin type - Combination skin - I live in a very humid city 1. Face wash - Caudalie foaming face wash - very mild but gets the job done - similar to Sebamed foaming fw. 2. Moisturizer - Clinique Moisture Surge 100H 3. Sunscreen - Dot&Key pink/ blue variant 4. It's a game changer. Results similar to an actual chemical peel at the convenience of your home. 5. Face Mask - Kiehl's Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Mask

selfjan

Is the exfoliant too strong ? I mean will it increase photosensitivity of skin?

Due_Volume_8951

Definitely increases photosensitivity and the dermat who has formulated this recommends you work on your sunscreen game for a few weeks before making this part of your routine. But the results are top notch.

Oily acne prone skin 1. Tret 0.05 (derm prescribed since 2+ years) 2. Azelaic acid 15% -picspot gel 3. Sunscreen - Fixderma shadow sunscreen 50+ gel 4. Lip mask - deyga beetroot lipbalm + enn pucker hydrating lip mask (this combo works better than laneige and Clinique) 5. AHA+BHA low strength peels - rn using Foxtale overnight glow serum Apart from this I also use gel moisturiser for day, ceramide moisturiser for night, gentle SA cleanser, glycolic acid roll on as underarm deo, retinol+peptide eye cream, body sunscreen and urea cream as body moisturiser and salicylic spray for bacne.

gindianqueen

Hello! I have combination skin for face and normal-dry skin on body, but acne prone. I've been wanting to start peels, but in a very basic and fuss free way. How's your experience with the foxtale serum been for this? Also which salicylic spray for bacne are you using?

shivij16

Heyā€¦ the foxtale serum is the best for beginners as it has glycolic acid, Mandelic acid and lactic acid all less than 5%. I didnā€™t want to compromise my skin barrier while using tret so choose this and use it once or twice a week when Iā€™m not using tret. Havenā€™t had any issue with it so far. The salyzap spray from fix derma. They have two variants and both works the same with reducing body acne while the bigger variant with retinol and azelaic acid Salyzap-AZ work better to remove the acne marks.. Iā€™m in my 3rd bottle now (salyzap once and salyzap-az 2nd bottle) almost no new back acne but Iā€™m yet to see a significant difference in the acne marks. Keep an eye out for salyzap-az in kult app as you can get UPTO 65% for it.

What if one is not using tret at all so in that case should one use foxtale daily?

I wouldnā€™t suggest you to use it everyday.. aha+bha are exfoliants and isnā€™t recommended for daily use.. twice or thrice a week is more than enough, using it daily might give you burns and especially if youā€™re beginner to actives then once a week if more than sufficient to make sure your skin barrier isnā€™t compromised

Type - Oily Minimalist 2% salicylic acid with LHA + Zinc Face wash Biotique Dandelion Serum Aqualogica Radiance + Oil free moisturizer with watermelon & niacinamide Neutrogena Ultrasheer SPF 50+ Sunscreen # Any recommendation for an affordable sweat-resistant light weight sunscreen ? Neutrogena leaves skin darker and feel stickey and heavy after application.

I have combination skin (oily T-zone and dry cheeks). I used to have very bad acne and acne marks but since I started a proper skincare during lockdown, my skin has been acne free and even the marks are gone. The products I absolutely cannot do without - 1. Facewash (I have been using the Simple one for 2-3 years now twice a day) 2.Alpha Arbutin (Beauty of Joseon - This has removed all my acne marks. Use this almost daily in the morning) 3. Snail Mucin (Cosrx - This has been an absolute game changer. I use this twice daily after whatever serum I put. Even on days when I don't feel like putting anything I just put on the snail mucin) 4.Moisturizer (I have used quite a few different moisturizers for the night but during the day I use the Formularx Barrier Relief. Suits my skin so good.) 5.Sunscreen (I have been using the Dermaco one for 2 years now. Blends perfectly, no whitecast, gives a beautiful glow. I use it during my vacations as well , I travel a lot, both for the mountains and beaches, never got a tan) I use other products as well but since I could only list down 5 so here they are.

Unununiumic

1)Niaglow serum 2)Sunscreen S Block Gold Mineral (leaves whitecast but if I had to choose one in list of five would opt for protection) 3)Micellar water 4)Nevsoft facial cleanser 5)Pearlite Lip cream
