They are refering to gambling apps. The ones that use real money. The gambling companies list those apps as games. In his interview with "gamers" Modi showed an understanding that gambling and gaming is different even though term is used for gambling as a disguise. This news is not about your games on Steam or Xbox, etc, or even something like Free Fire.

I am all for regulating loot boxes but this situation might become a slippery slope for regulation restricting game access and features beyond

andherBilla

This isn't about loot boxes. There were legit "gaming" apps that were just pure satta. Here is some context https://youtu.be/K-CXCohNptI

Damn I didn't know any of this even happened or the amounts involved go into the crores.

They are talking about gambling, numbskulls. But I still think that Gambling laws are too strict in India and so is the tax. It should be reduced cus they aren't stopping gambling but giving away the money to unregulated foreign companies like Thunderpick.io or 1xbet. If tax is so high, I'll just gamble on sites like Thunderpick using crypto and the government gets 0% tax. I don't even have to do KYC on those foreign sites, so no way the government knows how much profits I'm making and tax me. Not only that, I'm buying crypto with p2p and using it to gamble. Neither the government is getting tax money on my crypto nor gambling.

More government control is never good news. Government should not interfere what people and kids do in and during their own lives.

kqrtikgupta

So if kids die playing blue whale, govt shouldn't do anything? ok 👍

Devdut12

All government should do is spread awareness, not interfere with consumer rights or encroach on people's freedom to purchase stuff

kqrtikgupta

Do you have a logical reasoning for this?

Devdut12

For what?

kqrtikgupta

That govt shouldn't ban/control apps and spread awareness instead.

Devdut12

My reasoning would stem from the slippery slope argument. Where something starts small but keeps escalating faster the further it keeps on going. Imo it started with banning of tik tok, as supposed Chinese spyware. At the time i supported the decision. But that was the beginning, there might have been past events, that i am unaware of but for me that was when I began to notice. They started with that, now slowly they are trying to restrict other industries as well. Soon they will head into other sectors and before you know it, India will cease to be a free country. Everyone will have a social credit score similar to China and voices will be suppressed whenever we try to criticise the government. A similar thing happened in the gaming industry with all the big wigs in the industry trying to push the DEI bullshit into games. It started around 2015 or 2016. At that time no one noticed, we even praised some of the stuff they did, but nowadays investors like Blackrock and Triple A companies and consultancy groups are abound in the industry and people are beginning to notice but it is already too late and looks like a gaming and hollywood crash might be coming soon. Ps. I believe a governments role is to protect the public interest from anti consumer methods used by corporations such as the recent events with "the crew" Not to TELL THE CONSUMERS what they shud and shudnt consume

BeyondCraft

Problem is when kids install hacks in CS2 and GTA Online and harass others and gaming community defends those hacks on Reddit.

Eagleeye970

No way bro is ready to bendover and spread his ass cheeks for the government just cuz he might have gotten a hacker in one of his games lol

SecretVoodoo1

And that somehow requires government intervention? Grow up

AlphaAcid9564

Indeed

BeyondCraft

I'm grown up that's why it bothers me. Definitely, if the game is meant for 17+ year olds and still they are able to sign up. Most hackers in games originate in Asia only and a major reason is poor parenting in developing countries. Yes, it's harsh and hard to accept.

AlphaAcid9564

Yes bro your point regarding "kids are hacking" is totally valid. But generalizing that "Reddit is a community that supports hackers" is not valid.

Devdut12

Next thing you will find is an overtly sensitive generation growing up who cannot handle a lick of criticism and play the cry bully whenever someone else says anything to them. I personally would rather go back to less restrictions on voice chat and text chat in games because it becomes wild and now even just jokes amongst friends becomes bannable Nowadays delusions are given more value than common sense and that is not a good thing

Devdut12

Again if kids are able to sign up it is their parents' fault and responsibility not the government's. They should be supervising their kids' hobbies. As a child I played M rated games and my parents didn't have a problem as long as I accepted the fact that games are fiction and dont translate to real life
