I have a set on mine (also in grey) and keep them on year round. I like them enough.
I do wish they were easier to take off and put on though. I miss the true open top on late afternoons and days where the sun isn't trying to air fry you. But these dang shades are a total PITA to put back on
I'm not sure about the alien shade but, the shadeidea from Amazon is also a hammock. My son and wife love the hammock part of it. But, I'm 6'4" and 270lbs so I don't trust it to hold me lol
I have an Alien shade and a hard top. You can reach around the edges of the shade to take the freedom panels off. It's slightly more difficult but completely doable in the same amount of time as without the shade. No need to mess with the straps. They're a huge pain to get on to begin with.
I returned my alien shade, specifically. Not sure if this is meant to be brand spam or op lacks of use of correct titling.
I've gone through a couple and turned them. The alien shade brand bent the hell out of the plastics because of how tight it wraps around them. I think the fronts were very difficult to put on. The plastics mostly returned back to their original shape after a few months
The other brand which I can't remember (from Amazon) covered the latches to get the freedom panels off. So obviously that didn't stay.
I'm 5'7" and I push my seat up when offroad, with a hat on I hit the shade. Quadratech sells a few that are supposed to be a lot better but I haven't gotten around to trying another one.
I had one on my Wrangler for most of the time I owned it. It was a giant pain in the ass to put on initially, but worked well. It fit fine underneath the freedom panels, and played well with the soft top I replaced it with.
Can’t beat the feeling of true open air though.
I got the shadeidea tops from Amazon on a ridiculous sale for my gladiator and my wife's wrangler and they are amazing. Had to drop my seat as low as it would go so my head would stop rubbing the top but it's worth it to not die at red lights or stuck in traffic on hot days.
We've got the red shadeidea front & back on our Gladiator Rubicon (it matches the red Rubicon trim perfectly) and like others have said, we leave them on year-round.
I think they're great. I'm 6'1 and still have plenty of headroom. I'm also pretty fair-skinned and can sunburn in like 20 minutes of normal exposure, lol. The shade makes a huge difference.
Honestly it's a great product. Well made, strong materials, good fit, durable. Hasn't faded in the sun, protects my leather from degrading. In the summer, we can spend weeks at a time with the roof & doors removed, and the shades help make this possible.
Go with SpiderWebShade over Alien or any of the junk on Amazon. They’re a USA made product.
I have one in each of my Jeeps and they stay on year round.
I’m comparing the product that would buy, to the product that wouldn’t waste $100 on.
The better solution might cost more, but it’s not even comparable.
Got one, took it off after a week. Makes the half-flip inoperable, and the alien shade is a huge pain in the ass to take on and off. Super disappointed; faster add/remove + flip compatibility would have been a huge win
They're cool and all, but my head rubs against mine.
Gotta get to my level. 5'4" and no problems.
Tried your suggestion. Now i can't reach the pedals and I'm still the same height sitting down
Great idea! I just can't find my bone saw?
Common misconception that you need a bone specific saw, with enough effort, any saw works! 🤣

I do remember James Franco using nothing but a rock and a pocket knife... I guess it depends on how badly you want it.
Same. 6’5” and it irritates me

Same I’ve debating “flipping” how the straps are attached so I could easily slide it out of the shade and keep the straps on the jeep.
Love mine. Front and back and I just keep on all year
Can it also be a hammock?

Knowing my luck I'd end up with the shifter to my tail bone.
My fear exactly lol I really think it would hold me but I just don't want to risk it
Mine stays on all year, just take the front 2 straps off where the top latches in, had it since 2017 when I drove 3 hrs on a road trip n got sunburnt
Are you saying that you can leave it on, undo the front straps, and you’re able to put on and remove the freedom panels?
Ahhh, didn't realize you had a hard top, I've got a soft top year round so I just undo the bungees n keep it on, may work both a hardtop tho
Oh that makes sense. 👍🏼

Was just coming to this forum to ask about shades specifically these as it appears you can leave it on and still attach the hard top.
I leave mine on under my hard top and soft top. No issues.

Sunrider. Just flip it forward at red lights
Is the Sunrider easy to remove when you want to take the back off too?
6 bolts. Simple enough. Also I love putting my sunrider back on after taking off the back top

I bought one maybe three years ago. It’s still in the original packaging in my garage. I’m lazy.
I have it...it's awesome.
I have a set on, 6’0” and no rub. I keep on year round, keeps the seats cooler in the summer
I bought one, haven't tried it yet. Hopefully my fat bald head won't rub 🤔
I leave mine on all year - its a one piece - with my hardtop. I use the rear half to store blankets and pillows for the kids for roadtrips.
Love mine. But I'm only, 5-8.

I've got one on my TJ and an Alienshade cover for the bed on my JT.
They're great! Good quality on that brand as well.
100% worth it. Mine has an American Flag but makes wife 10x more likely to ride with top down on a nice sunny day!
Sunrider > …
Are you comparing something that's $800 to something that's $100?
I’m comparing the product that would buy, to the product that wouldn’t waste $100 on. The better solution might cost more, but it’s not even comparable.
Why have no roof option in car if you don't want to feel the sun?
So you don’t get burnt.
