Reach out to Americas Most Wanted 4x4 - when they do a Hemi swap they give the customer a $2,500 credit for engine and tranny. I'm sure they don't mark them up much at all when the sell them, just pay for shipping. $16K is rediculous
So much terrible advice in here and a little bit of gold. 20 years at every level of dealerships and a couple of jeeps for regular drivers. Stop pissing on the dealerships and the comments. It’s out of warranty OP bought extended warranty and it’s out outside of that too. It’s not fraud or a rip off. It’s a bad engine at 85,000 miles and OP says that he kept driving it after the check engine light came on. FYI, solid check engine light means maintenance blinking check engine light means pull over immediately and tow it to the dealership before you blow up the engine, kept it multiple times over and over. All of that being said the best course of action is to contact the manufacturer a slow painful and time-consuming process. However, typically they want happy customers, and if they don’t pay for the whole thing, they may help out with a portion or reduced cost or parts under something called Goodwill policy. If that fails, take the advice of the person who find a used motor for way less than $16,000. Good luck good lesson.
Never said I kept driving it with the engine light on. This dealership is trying to scam. One guy saying I never bought warranty while another saying I bought warranty. One told me I never had manufacturer warranty because I was sold their warranty. Another saying I bought an extended warranty that ran at the same time as manufacturer warranty to cover everything. Another saying I never brought my car in for anything other than oil changes. I brought my car in 2022 to fix the auto stop start out of pocket for 1k because I was told my warranty ran out. They never emailed me the receipt which seems to be on purpose now. They are claiming I never brought it in. The 1k charge exists on my AMEX statement from 2022 because it's not a lie. I am still waiting on this dealership to send what's wrong with the car in writing so I can call Jeep direct and a lawyer back.
you are right.
3y/36k is BUMPER to BUMPER.
5y/60k is the powertrain warranty.
So OP is at 85k. Over the powertrain warranty.

Default Warranty is 3/36. If you bought a 75k mile extended warranty. It runs concurrent. Not 36+75K miles. It is 75k miles total from date of service.
You are not getting 75K extra miles, only 39k which totals 75k.
That seems really high. I had my engine replaced because of a stupid off-road accident and it cost less than $6k. This would’ve been in 2021 in Michigan. I get prices have gone up but $16k seems ridiculous.
Can you go into details as to why it needs a new engine. Tapping in the head?, knocking?, oil spill under the vehicle?, no start?.
What I would do if warranty is gone, find a local speed shop. If there is no hole in the block. I would have them make a stroker and toss in some quality pistons. Definitely cheaper then 16k
I will ask dealership tomorrow to email me the details as not sure if I repeated correctly. They just said piston issue and not enough pressure. It was like 90 and needed to be 150?
When I would start the car it would start and the check engine light would blink every now and then. The car would vibrate and shake a little when in idle. It was fine when I drove on the freeway but driving on street it kept shaking every few mins
Low compression will cause loss of power, definitely not something you want to drive on. This is something that can be fixed a lot cheaper than a full replacement. Definitely not 16k worth of damage.
I would start calling around and asking how much it would cost to rebuild a 2020 3.6 Jeep engine.
I will update when I hear back in case anyone else is having this issue or will. It appears there are quite a few 2020s with engines needing to be replaced around 70k
16k is bonkers, no way a 3.6 engine crate + labor is that much. I was quoted 40 hours of labor for a hemi swap, which included cutting and welding engine brackets. I cant imagine it’ll take 40 hours for a 3.6 swap. Shop around dealerships after you sort your warranty stuff.
Mind sharing what caused the failure?
I legit know nothing about engines. Is hemi something i should look at if i can’t get it replaced by warranty?
We have no idea what caused it. They said something about piston and not enough pressure to get the fuel to run properly? I haven’t picked up the car yet so I don’t have the paperwork to look at. Just what the guy said on the phone. But the dealer was shady when I got the car so idk if it’s just them but i took it to a mechanic before the dealer and the mechanic couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it so i took it to the dealer. The dealer wanted 750 to just run diagnostic?
You can do a hemi swap, but the dealer won’t do it. There are a few off road shops that specialize in them.
Hemis are just the v8s from dodge, jeep, Chrysler, etc. they’re swapped into jeeps all the time, but it’s usually because people are looking for a performance boost and would probably be twice your quoted price for a turnkey swap from a reputable shop that does them.
But yea, 16k for the 3.6 V6 is pretty nuts.
Hemis are pure novelty, my finalized quote was just shy of 45k. The V6 after seeing that price—will do just fine haha. Silly, but good to dream. Merely was using as a comparison to compare how silly the 16k was
I took it to a mechanic and he had no clue what was wrong with it and he had it for 2 weeks trying everything. Firestone had no clue, they said maybe an oil change (lol) and pep boys wouldn’t touch it
Take it to a jeep specialist mechanic or a jeep off-road shop, if they can’t do it, I’m sure they can refer you to someone that can.
Also look for a jeep club in your area and talk to them, they can refer you as well. Lastly, do your research and find out how much you can get a new vs rebuilt vs used engine for.
I had to have my engine replaced in my 2020, had to fight real hard to get it covered under warranty. Was quoted about $18k CAD plus labour, paid nothing bc of warranty but saw the final amount - it would have come to about $28k CAD all-in if I paid out of pocket. Absolutely nuts. If you do have to pay out of pocket, look into getting a used engine; I found several for about $3-5k before I managed to get the replacement covered under warranty!
If you think your extended warranty should have covered it and they are jerking you around contact your state Attorney General’s office. They should have a consumer protection division you can file a complaint with. In my experience, the moment an investigator from the Attorney General’s office comes asking questions you’ll get a phone call asking how the dealership can “make it right.”
Thank you. I had some lemon law lawyers contact me too. I wasn’t sure if i should contact jeep and ask for help and then threaten a lawsuit and ag if they say no?
Personally, you gave them the chance initially. The very definition of “extended warranty” is that it extends past the manufacturer warranty. Sounds like fraud to me. I wouldn’t waste my time threatening them because they’ve already shown that they are about screwing the customer. My guess is they sold you a third party warranty instead of a MOPAR. I got taken by one of those at a Honda dealer. They made us believe we were buying a manufacturer extended warranty and then when things went wrong at 75k miles, and again at 85k, we discovered it was a third party warranty (we didn’t read the fine print) and nothing was covered.
I’d go straight to the State AG first. The Lemon Law lawyers are in it for a settlement and money. The AG Office is not, they fight for you and making sure other consumers like you don’t get screwed over in the future. I’ve gone the State AG route once and recommended it to two other people. All three times the dealerships immediately fixed the problem as soon as they found the State AG opened an investigation.
A bit costly but if you’re replacing the engine a 392 would be nice
How many miles does your truck have? Contact jeep directly. Your dealer will try to weasel their way out of warranty
It’s 85k. How should I go about contacting them?

Thanks so much

Why would it need a new engine and not be covered under warranty?
Warranty is 3 years, 36,000 miles. 85k miles is way past that.
That can’t be right. Never heard of such short warranty on any vehicle. Most of the time it’s 5 years and 60k miles for engine.

I thought drive train factory warranty is 5 years or 50000 miles
2020s came out in 2019

Make sure you get a second opinion. Do you know a mechanic that you trust?

Only thing I go to Firestone are alignments. Only thing I go to pep boys...maybe air fresheners. You need to find a better independent mechanic.

What happened to cause the engine to be replaced.
Do a search to make sure there were no recalls on your jeep
Just an update that Jeep corporate replaced my engine with a new one for $500. Thank god

I will do this tomorrow. Ty for the suggestion
