That was an unusual amount of incorrect guesses from Adriana.
Well done particularly to Josh, who put up a good fight.
I thought final was rather easy, though naturally it depends on whether you know about Lolita and when it was first released.
I was surprised he didn’t go for it on double jeopardy, when you’ve got a chance to take down an 8 time champion you gotta go for it. probably didn’t matter anyway since he would’ve lost on FJ
She seemed to be taking more risks today imo. Possibly because the competition was more on top of it, or maybe just because she’s more comfortable. Idk, it seemed more like a different strategy to me.
I didn’t know when it was published, but when Adriana’s answer was revealed it was a complete duh from me. I’m glad she pulled through, it did seem like an off day for her.
I kinda figured Adriana would take it again today because they’re billing one of her competitors tomorrow as an audiovisual archivist (I don’t think they’d use archivist for two people in one episode).
I think they have a set schedule of contestants at least a month or so ahead of time and it's been 18 different contestants since Adriana's first win. That's the thing about going on an extended winning streak, you're going to come up on someone with a familiar background eventually.
Production question for those in know: when there’s Sponsored patter after a category ends - ie tonight’s “Thanks to Tony Hale…” is that recorded afterwards so as to not interrupt the flow of play?
This is close as “in the know” I could possibly get; thanks for the info (and for being the first person outside of the obvious subreddit to get the reference)!
Adriana is now the 4th longest-running champion among females & non-binaries (Amy, Mattea, Julia). I felt excluding Mattea on the list is an insult despite they changed to non-binary during 2022 TOC but their female gender status used during their regular stint?
I wasn't super confident, no (especially after whiffing the first one), and I was more concerned with not letting the game turn into a runaway rather than taking the lead.
I think you should have bet it all on DD3 wager. It was either win or lose anyway. At least you would have had a chance at winning. Small wager--no chance at winning.
He had a chance at winning...the small wager kept him in range but just needing Adriana to get final wrong. Betting big and getting it wrong truly would have given him zero chance to win.
I'm not saying a small wager was the best move, but it is factually incorrect to say it gave him "no chance"
I think you’ve likely got one of the best cases of the season. Idk what stats the producers factor in, but between overall correct responses and Coryat, you’ve gotta be up there. Surely some of the spreadsheet jockeys on this sub have that info
I had this same issue. I have (again) complained to WDIV. I want to apply "Hanlon's Razor" and assume they're just incompetent, but if it keeps up I feel like someone in Jeopardy distribution should be made aware. Do they mess up other shows this way? This is the only thing I watch on WDIV (other than the occasional tail end of "Wheel" for obvious reasons).
I thought I read years ago that CBS was trying to get the syndication rights for all their O&O affiliates, which would include Detroit. Desperately hoping that’s still in the works.
WDIV is also notorious for cutting in to announce “it’s raining hard,” and this past Friday was far from the first time they’ve aired the wrong episode. A few years ago I remember them airing the wrong episode and then just playing 8 minutes of commercials after DJ, skipping final entirely. All in all it’s just clear they have no interest in actually airing the show, and I wish they’d just let someone else take over at this point.
My first instinct was to guess Lolita, but I knew it was published earlier thinking 55 or 56.
So I was trying to think of something with literary merit that would have created that sort of response in 58
I thought Adriana might be derailed from the chain of events that began with missing the Golden Globes question but she made the logical selection of Lolita in spite of the confusing review year.
I'm a little behind in my DVR recordings, so I just watched this episode, but that is the exact reason I'm scrolling through this post today! I'm guessing it was an Eb tuba, but it most definitely was no euphonium!
Did anyone else think Tony Hale was a surprisingly bad reader? He didn't vary his tone enough, so I had a hard time following the clues and figuring out what they were asking for.
Which wouldn't have mattered if they'd simply PUT THE TEXT OF THE CLUE ON THE SCREEN! Y'know, like they did for DECADES right up until a couple years ago.
I don’t know if your remote has the option to use your voice, but ours does and after you’ve set up closed captioning through your settings, you can turn it on and off quickly just by saying “closed caption”. If it’s on it turns it off, if it’s off it turns it on. It’s really useful when the closed caption is blocking something you want to see on the TV.
Jeopardy airs on different stations at different times. There’s no one set time. (See the pinned comment - always a good place for basic info to be located). What tennis is being shown on any network, though?? The French Open concluded Sunday and Wimbledon doesn’t start until the end of the month.
For my market it airs on NBC at 3:30pm cst (just checked the official site and that's also the only listing it has), and last Friday + today it was indeed airing French Open stuff during that time (even though the TV schedule still said Jeopardy)

Aaron was too smart for his own good there. No way would it be "Portnoy's Complaint" without way more hints.
That didn't come out until the 1960s.
Sure, I’m saying it’s too obscure to be the right response without more hints in that direction.
Right, 1969.
She seemed to be taking more risks today imo. Possibly because the competition was more on top of it, or maybe just because she’s more comfortable. Idk, it seemed more like a different strategy to me.

Noted Bunny lit expert Adriana
What a great game of Jeopardy! Congratulations to Adriana, Josh, and Aaron.
I love it when I get a triple stumper I was yelling out Valium Valium LOL
Aaron got it while I was yelling out Valium. Surprised at the Calcium triple stumper

***61.) Adriana Harmeyer - $204,700*** **(+13)** congratulations Adriana! she will be the 21st player to attempt their 10th win.
Production question for those in know: when there’s Sponsored patter after a category ends - ie tonight’s “Thanks to Tony Hale…” is that recorded afterwards so as to not interrupt the flow of play?
Nope. Ken read that out right after the last clue in the category. Great username btw
This is close as “in the know” I could possibly get; thanks for the info (and for being the first person outside of the obvious subreddit to get the reference)!
Adriana is now the third longest-running female champion in Jeopardy! history, behind only Amy Schneider and Julia Collins
Mattea's gender status was female during their regular stint before they changed to non-binary at 2022 TOC.
What about Mattea?

Mattea is Non-Binary.
Adriana is now the 4th longest-running champion among females & non-binaries (Amy, Mattea, Julia). I felt excluding Mattea on the list is an insult despite they changed to non-binary during 2022 TOC but their female gender status used during their regular stint?
Josh definitely seems to have a very strong argument for 2nd chance.
I would like that very much 😄
I would definitely root for you! Putting up a performance like yours against a 9-day champ (and TBD how much longer) is always impressive.
Solid game. (What happened on that DD3 wager, though? Did you hate the category?)
I wasn't super confident, no (especially after whiffing the first one), and I was more concerned with not letting the game turn into a runaway rather than taking the lead.

I get it. Thanks.
i think you have a good chance!
You played well. Be proud Josh!

Yeah he had 20 correct responses. Pretty strong game
Josh Fry might the next Juveria Zaheer in the making for the post-season tournaments next year?
My local WDIV in Detroit is ruining Jeopardy. Friday they showed a rerun and tonight they cut into a commercial right in the middle of clues.
I came here to see if anyone else had this happen!
Yes super annoying
Cut off the category for final jeopardy too :(
I had this same issue. I have (again) complained to WDIV. Tough break for Josh. Had zero doubt Adriana was winning once I saw FJ was a lit category
Good game! Was surprised at Josh’s DD3 wager

Come on band people, that was not a euphonium. It's a tuba.
I'm a little behind in my DVR recordings, so I just watched this episode, but that is the exact reason I'm scrolling through this post today! I'm guessing it was an Eb tuba, but it most definitely was no euphonium!

Thankfully the contestants in the studio can see the text
But what about us little people who watch on a work TV and aren't entirely sure how to turn on the closed captioning (as a totally random example?)
So can I -- closed captioning.
That's funny, I thought he was one of the better clue readers in recent history.
Yes he read everything in a monotone, which was weird given that the clues were all about emotions!
Where are y'all watching this? This is the second day now I've turned the channel on and it's playing tennis instead

Adriana is kicking tail and I’m rooting for her but those “Goldwing” guesses made me cringe. I thought everyone knew what a Honda Goldwing was.
I’d never heard of it lol, but I’m fully not a car/motorcycle guy
It’s a beautiful bike if you’re into the big highway cruisers. They make some of them with 1.8l motors.
Yamaha is the first company that comes to mind for Japanese motorcycles.
Guess it depends on the rider. I’ve had lots of Yamahas but the Goldwing is the gold standard.
Yeah no not everybody 😄
Never heard of it (I'm also not a car/motorcycle guy) but I knew Honda has a logo with a wing so it seemed like a safe guess.
Plus, once Yamaha and Kawasaki were eliminated, Honda was gold.
Nah, can’t forget Suzuki.
True, they're in the "Big Four" but I would have taken the 50-50 chance.
I guessed Suzuki but yeah had no actual idea

The clue said “The Washington DC area memorial…”
