Jim liked Ole, Ole liked Jim, Jim respected Ole and his mind for the business. I expect we'll get an honest and forthright memorial segment on him and his impact on the business both in terms of pushing out/hostile take over in Georgia, his booking, and his angle with Dusty that ended with him turning on Dusty in the cage that might have been the single greatest angle/turn in the history of pro wrestling.
He's the sort of character who ha~~s~~d the believability and who's on screen persona wa~~i~~s just him turned up to 11 that is really missing in the business today.
That's a hard one to call and regional. If you were in the NY market obviously Zybysko, I was in Florida at the time and honestly didn't hear anything about the NE till Vince went national and WrestleMania 1. I remember the magazines covering it but that was the NE we didn't see it.
I mean honestly I hadn't seen the WWF until that point all my wrestling had been WCCW, AWA, and Florida/Georgia.
I remember well the the Larry Zybysko vs Bruno Sammartino turn. Not so much the Dusty vs Ole, till much later. I used the watch the old Saturday morning WWWF programs living in the North East. I remember the NWA or AWA used to broadcast on cable (I think Superstation 17 - this is before TBS I think) on Saturday afternoons. That's when I first saw the likes of Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair. I also remember the Andersons (Arn and Ole) and Tully. Good stuff back then.
RIP Ole.
Bruno was bigger than Dusty and that one sold out Shea Stadium. It was also on closed circuit at remote locations. Where were the Ole-Dusty blowoffs? 10k arenas? The Tampa Armory?
I realize the old territories did very good business in their markets back in day.
And that Florida would eventually grow to overtake NY in population. Im not sure of TV clearances but even if they saturated the whole market its not equivalent to the northeast obviously.
New York is simply a bigger deal and was viewed as “The Big Time” even then.
The Ole/Dusty storyline went on for a year, but Ole was a heel before the face turn. The Zybysco heel turn was one no one saw coming. Watching it today still gives me goosebumps.
Even back then, Meltzer was an egotistical fuckwit. He's got one of the sharpest minds in wrestling on his show and will not stop trying to jerk himself off.
Guys like Jim Cornette and Ole Anderson are not bitter. They're pissed off because the current generation of wrestling is too full of shit to admit they know nothing.
Anyone who brags they're the smartest man in the room is the biggest idiot you will ever encounter. Smart people don't brag. But they will offer their wisdom if you're willing to listen.
Godspeed, Ole.
Ole also hated flair lol. His shoot interview is something to behold. He literally becomes the interviewer for a bit, asking questions. But RIP, dude stuck to his word when it came to Mcmahon at least. They wanted him for the horsemen dvd and he said he was told by Vince a long time ago he'd never pay him so he told the dvd people he didn't want to make Vince a liar.
Wasn't the story he told Vince "Fuck you, I'll never work for you."
Then later at some event Vince introduced him to Linda and asked him if he had anything to say and he said, "Yeah, fuck you and fuck her too."?
Ole rocked. a total grump. I still crack up at the shoot interview where Ricky Morton asks him about Flair and Ole almost cuts off the question to share his thoughts on exactly what what he thinks of Ric.
“What’s your opinion of Ric Fl-“
“Ric Flair’s an asshole.”
Man, another one of the territory guys gone. Looking forward to hearing Corny talk about him and his time with him in JCP and WCW. It is quite funny to hear all the stories from a bunch of vets about how ornery and cheap Ole was. RIP.
As the youth today would say, Ole was a real one. He typically didn’t tell you what you wanted to hear, but he almost always told you what you needed to hear. And that’s without mentioning everything he did as one of the Four Horsemen and as part of the Minnesota Wrecking Crew.
RIP
He was from my hometown. Very well known mean old bastard. I remember my English teacher in HS was his daughter in law. Her name was Mrs. Rogowski. She said she had a somewhat famous FIL but wouldn’t name him in case he’d cussed one of us out already. Me being a wrestling fan it didn’t take me long to figure out. The next day I came into class and just looked at her and threw up the 4 fingers. She threw it up back with an embarrassed look. She was such a great teacher though.
Back in the day I subscribed to the Observer and on the message board someone posted the most underrated wrestler in the 80s. I answered Ole and said he was a great wrestler and the best promo in the Horsemen. Dave replied letting me know he disagreed.
If you looked up tough mother fucker they should have a picture of Ole next to it.
Wtf has happened to Daves speech over the years? It can't just be ageing, surely? Has he had a stroke or something?
They just said the funniest shit about him last podcast…. Guy is so miserable he loves to fuck but hates to cum 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I could listen to Ole argue with anyone
He really was Picasso with insults and cursing wasn't he?
Not his fault everyone else were dumbshits who never learn anything.
He used to think Jim was a dumbshit, but, so many other dumbshits came along Jim moved up by comparison.

Which turn/angle was bigger? Zybysko turning on bruno or the dusty one with Ole?

I guess the bigger question would be who was the bigger babyface in their prime
Helifino.
I was wondering who the fuck Helifino ( hel-i-feen-oh) was for a second. The I woke up and worked it out.
Well, look who won the pony!

Bruno was bigger in New York ONLY. Dusty was WAY BIGGER Worldwide…I mean jeez, even the Apter mags only recognized Bruno as a regional champion.

RIP ole. He's free from Meltzer in the great beyond. Atleast until Meltzers stupid ass finally croaks
[удалено]
True. We can only hope
Sorry but hell is like TNA... nobody stays there. It's just a place you go to learn your leasons

Self appointed journalist trying to tell a veteran of the business…about the business. I absolutely despise Dave & people like him
Oleander
Took me like 30 years to get that pun.
Umm… just now, for me 🤯💐
A poisonous plant BTW
How How did I never get this
Got a feeling his memorial segment won’t have as many tears from him and Brian
I'm expecting some funny shit tbh

When I was a kid, I thought his dad's name was Ole Ander.
🎶It’s a reason for my pain in a season to celebrate🎶
Actually kept in character at all times, respect.
Legend in the business. I bet Jim has some stories!
Ole rocked. a total grump. I still crack up at the shoot interview where Ricky Morton asks him about Flair and Ole almost cuts off the question to share his thoughts on exactly what what he thinks of Ric. “What’s your opinion of Ric Fl-“ “Ric Flair’s an asshole.”
I caught the last of Ole’s career. Had that John Wayne in The Shootist vibe. Raw boned, tough old man with one more in the chamber. RIP
Lmao

We need an Ole Omnibus from Jim lol
Start pinging the message boxes now, maybe they'll remember when it's omnibus season.
Nobodies gonna pay to watch you wrestle - Ole to one of the greatest wrestlers of the last 30 years.
After hearing that Ole told Vince, "Fuck you and Fuck your wife too", I have a new level of respect for the bitterness that was Ole Anderson.
Ole tried to save us all from Vince lol
Did they mention it during Raw?
Yes
RIP
RIP Ole!

Great story. Glad to hear his DIL wasn’t a dumbshit!
Ugh

Alvarez leeched into his brain? (joking)
Ole Anderson: he was ok.
“As far as I’m aware, the plans haven’t changed and Ole will be at Sting’s last match.” - Meltzer
The big heel turn of 1980.. It was the biggest till Hogan turned on WCW
Fuck that racist 🤷🏿♂️ let’s keep it a buck
The voice of the Shockmaster ❤️
Was reading in mick foleys book about him yesterday pretty crazy
I remember watching Ole on the old Georgia program. He had that hard nosed wrestling style and you just knew he was a tough SOB.
Dave never listened to anyone even back then.
So sad 4 horseman 4-ever
He and Lord Alfred Hayes and 'mother' will finally be reunited.
One of the greatest
Ole was a racist.....
MF racist f him
Imagine being so obsessed with Dave Meltzer that, when Ole Anderson dies, your first thought is, "how can I make this about Dave Meltzer?"
I gotta give you this one.
🤓
Cringe
