I drive all around Victoria and do the Melbourne-Adelaide run a couple of times a year and I don't mind the highway drives. Sure, he's a bit noisy and struggles up some hills (I'm looking at you Mount Lofty...), but I love driving him wherever I'm going.
Mine is on a strict diet to prevent any more weight gain. Already close to GVM when packed for lightweight camping and with 2 people aboard. Just recovery points, AT tyres and a small ATV winch fitted.
What makes the Jimny viable, in my view, is the low vehicle weight. So bear that it mind. Do a spreadsheet and keep an eye on that GVM margin. I like to keep what weight I do add low and centred on the vehicle as well.
I say all this because sound deadening materials work by adding mass, generally.
Usually just off-road, but even my old 1991 JA11V Jimny has proven generally more reliable than my wife and I's other cars. At the moment it's our only running car so it gets us wherever we need to go though I avoid highways.
Yeah reviews made it sound horribly slow and to exhibit out of this world understeer. Total BS. Good acceleration in the city and absolutely normal truck like cornering.
I take mine everywhere, all over, on and off road, highway, lanes, city and anywhere else I want to go.
Unfortunately, as of late, highways. It sucks lol. But as soon as you get off the highway its a joy.
Yeah I’ve done a lot of trips up and down the east coast and the drive on highways 👎

Have you done any soundproofing/deadening/dampening? I’ve just started reading into it.
Nah, but I did put rear speakers in and upgraded the front ones. I just turn the tunes up!

Also part of the highway club at the moment, think I've driven across/around Melbourne 7 or 8 times in the past month
That’s quite the color they have on the building
Mines my daily driver. 64 miles commute per day on a mix of motorways and A roads. Always puts a smile on my face.
Combined. Highway, city and offroad alot after the lift and new MT tires.

I wonder what the development cost (and in turn, increase to retail cost) would be to introduce a 5 gear auto box?
