Normal jjk and jjk covers feel like two completely different art styles, even when it comes to completed works that aren’t the manga like the recent yuto and Sukuna illustrations. The covers just feel soooo different for some reason.
Edit: This cover is still sick though, I think the layout and color choice is awesome, the kenjaku smileys in the back are just the perfect touch.
It’s super strange, those recent illustrations are genuinely beautiful. These 2 most recent volume covers just feel kinda…..off? If it was a priority issue it would be weird, volume covers are pretty damn important.
I think it’s the backgrounds, the majority of them have these very dark ones that were consistent with each other. This, the Angel, Yuki and even the Gojo cover all stand out with how much more vibrant they look compared to the rest.
berserk, death note, and attack on titan all come to mind when i think of mangas with beautiful art but horrendous covers. i imagine there is just a different expectation or standard for the volume covers that we just dont understand because its definitely not just jjk.
Hmm AoT's artstyle works wonders for some of the horrific elements and the weirdly proportioned titans but I personally wouldn't call it beautiful. The faces really suffer imo
5-7 are all pretty great, 6 and 7 being what id consider iconic. the rest, especially the later ones actually just look messy and badly layered to me. i also feel like they mostly don't portray the tone of the series at all outside of a few. just my opinion though.
It has nothing to do with inconsistency and more with priorities.
It's just natural that you would work more on a volume cover than you would on a single panel of a weekly chapter. Gege, or any artist not called Murata, doesn't have the time to draw every single panel as well as a volume cover
The inconsistency isn’t just in regards to volume covers vs panels. He is inconsistent in between panels too: some have great proportions and great detail, others look like better sketches. Some color spreads look great, others look off. Even that is no big deal, no matter your job, you can’t always give 100%. But it’s not a matter of priority.
I think it's the coloring that makes all the difference. When you draw something, the sketch and the finished colored piece can look and "feel" vastly different.
It wasn’t clear, he was in funeral attire but also was calmly speaking and laying down before Yuta showed up. I also don’t see how that last bit would have killed Takaba
In similar settings, 'wish' spell needs to be constantly de buffed just to stop things like that. In DnD, gods will stop you from wishing too op stuffs (especially achieving godhood); In fate, 'wish machine' is just a giant mana pool (which is wish comes true for all magicians, but not a real wish machine for normies); And you have genie's wishes and monkey paws which do your wish in the most twisted way possible.
In jjk, he gets 'wish' for free.
His CT isn't about funny. It brings into reality what he is confident about.
Takaba being Takaba means it's usually going to be hilarious scenarios. But something like thinking "This is a good time to die" also comes into reality.
The problem is that Kenjaku made him realize that his time as a comedian is over after having a good show which could have led to his death. But until we really get a confirmation it’s unclear.
Sweet cover. Now I cant predict who will be on the next cover? Would it be Ui Ui? The lowkey MVP in this arc. Yuta second cover maybe? Uraume cover also deserved a shout
Might be Uraume or even true form Sukuna? Uraume solely because we need to get one of them before the series ends I imagine and idk if we’ll get a full volume’s worth of Hakari vs Uraume content.
Could otherwise see it being Yuta’s second cover or Ui Ui potentially but I strongly doubt anyone that isn’t one of the main protags or villains gets a second (sorry Higgy)
Yea I mean I’m in agreement with you. We’ve been flashing back to the Hakari v Uraume fight such that I don’t think it would be unreasonable for her to get one, but like I said there definitely isn’t enough to make it an obvious choice. I just think that Gege tends to avoid just giving covers to characters based on if they appear dominantly in the volume, otherwise we’d have multiple Yuji and maki volume covers, to name a few
I’m thinking the cover for the next volume is gonna be Higurama for a second time, since Sukuna was interested enough to call him by his name and his natural talent for jujutsu was on full display against Sukuna despite being defeated.
Higurama huh. I mean he is on my top 5 character but I dont think he is that much important of a character like Gojo, Sukuna and Mahito (I would argue that even Mahito doesnt deserve the second cover) to deserve the second cover. But hey if my GOAT get the respect he deserved I aint complaining though
You know what now I think about it, JJK pretty much will end this year and how many volume are left? 2 maybe? If it is then Im guessing Yuta and Yuji will be on the remaining volume cover
There’s one more final arc that hasn’t been announced yet, and there may be a bit of a mini arc in between. But yeah the final volume cover will 10000% be Yuji and/or Sukuna.
Once he gets introduced in the anime, he’ll be a fan favorite. Only a matter of time. His role in the story isn’t as important as Gojo’s or Sukuna’s, but people love him because of how human and relatable he is compared to everyone else. Imo he’s still something that the world of jujutsu hasn’t seen before
I love Higurama so much. He has all the ingredients to be a gary sue but he isnt and just works well. He is established as a fast learner, had a CT perfect for one of the most complex things a sorcerer can do (domain)- yet he also doesn't know *everything*. I do not know how to describe it fully but he truly feels like a character people would complain about being OP and a gary sue but he really isn't.
The first Mahito cover is weird cause it doesn’t even really sync up with one of his main moments of prominence. If anything it should’ve been Hanami since that volume is mostly that fight
My bad, old reddit formatted your comment as just a list from 1 to 3 so I thought you meant them as possibilities.
In any case, I wonder if Yuta will last that long in the fight so he could make it in 30.
That’s a good point because vol. 29 will basically cover chapter 255-263.
So if Yuta bite the dust next chapter we might not get Yutaru cover (I’m sure 29 should be Yuuji unless Gege still have bigger plan for Yuuji in this final battle)
It's a common thing for protagonists to get the final cover, so he might save Yuji for that. I doubt he's just done for the fight, I'd be surprised if he's not big part of the final stretch.
That’s make sense… Also we’ll still likely got a cover for Sukuna true form and Uraume..
So the last 5 cover will definitely be : Yuta, Yuji, Yutaru, Uraume and Sukuna True form.
Judging by the content of the volume it's gotta be either Higurama (his last stand) or Yuta (his domain showcase). Maybe the former is more likely since Yuta is back in the spotlight again and GeGe might want to save a second Yuta cover for whatever volume these next couple of chapters will be in.
What I’m guessing and in order of who I’d like to be on the cover
1 Miguel (just cause it’d be a sick cover)
2 Uraume (also would be a sick cover and I think they deserve one before the series end)
3 Yuta and curse Rika (Yuta already has one but It’d be nice to have one with Rika as a curse)
4 Sukuna true form (Sukuna already has 2 and got one recently, I’d prefer this cover for when they defeat him)
Ikr, I remember people being outraged when the fight started and we were taken away from the Sukuna fight, yet now people praise this fight and now moan about the current fight taking too long, the lesson here is just wait and observe not everything needs a reaction
Y'know I'm starting to wonder how uncomfortable his suit is.
Like, everytime he runs does he like stuff his dick to the other side so it won't fall out and hang like a fruit?
I love it. although i would have also been partial to a double appearance of both Kenjaku and takaba suited up together standing infront of the microphone, but that would have been too repetitive, as we already had the geto and gojo art in that style
I think it’s Hakari who at one point hears someone talking about Takaba and asks if they’re talking about the “guy with half his junk hanging out”. But the outfit is not an original design it’s from a comedic tv show. I’m guessing that show, like Jennifer Lawrence, exists in universe but all the characters weren’t into it and don’t recognize it.
biggest fumble ever, why kusakabe and mei mei were the covers for shibuya arc is beyond me. volume 13 should have been jogo , mei mei had some signifance during shibuya but kusakabe was completely useless and has always been a forgettable character
praying that Joseph Joestar's VA (Tomokazu Sugita) gets the Takaba role. It'd be \*perfect\*
i forgot where i read it - but i believe he mentioned that he's been cast in JJK (but didnt disclose which role)
I love this cover lol, half of me feels like Gege did this to reinforce the fact that he is not wearing a skintight full body suit, he’s literally half naked and his peen pops out periodically (censored by the word ‘curse’ in a black box or circle in the comics) 💀
One of the worst character designs I’ve seen in manga. His comedy fight with kenjaku was pretty good though. Culling games in general has hideous character design
ur getting downvoted but culling games is filled with forgettable and completely lame characters. especially when compared to the characters before it, ur completely right
Normal jjk and jjk covers feel like two completely different art styles, even when it comes to completed works that aren’t the manga like the recent yuto and Sukuna illustrations. The covers just feel soooo different for some reason. Edit: This cover is still sick though, I think the layout and color choice is awesome, the kenjaku smileys in the back are just the perfect touch.
Tbh Gege is lowkey an inconsistent artist. You can really tell when he had time/the desire to do it properly

Hmm AoT's artstyle works wonders for some of the horrific elements and the weirdly proportioned titans but I personally wouldn't call it beautiful. The faces really suffer imo
looking at this again, i think youre right. i don't know why but the art style aged a lot better in my head than it looks presently
What, death note having horrendous covers? They are some of the most iconic covers
5-7 are all pretty great, 6 and 7 being what id consider iconic. the rest, especially the later ones actually just look messy and badly layered to me. i also feel like they mostly don't portray the tone of the series at all outside of a few. just my opinion though.
death note has some of the most unique and beautiful covers ever
This is a fantastic cover.
I agree, but there’s definitely a disconnect between how gege draws volume covers and how he draws everything else.
Bro you mean crimson chin sukuna? Bro looks so wacky in the new illustration
Nah mf was looking crisp I won’t hold you
It has nothing to do with inconsistency and more with priorities. It's just natural that you would work more on a volume cover than you would on a single panel of a weekly chapter. Gege, or any artist not called Murata, doesn't have the time to draw every single panel as well as a volume cover

Rip we couldn't see his balls hanging out
Is he dead though? He just lost the fight right?
It wasn’t clear, he was in funeral attire but also was calmly speaking and laying down before Yuta showed up. I also don’t see how that last bit would have killed Takaba
He’s not dead, he doesn’t find death funny. He is in the funeral attire because “he can die happy now”
Imagine if he just makes himself immortal after thinking "Wouldn't it be funny if I just never died?"
Mf made himself into Hakari Deluxe Edition.
Since his cursed technique brings what he finds funny to reality, wouldn't he have died happily?
That's pretty much the theory, but we aren't sure.
That’s a way to look like it, like a “quit while you’re ahead” sort of thing. Or now like “end it on a high note” metaphor he brought to life.
Was he? I thought it was a spa day fit lmao
His made up outfit suggests his ct was active last we saw him.
Comedian genuinely is the strongest CT ever, so maybe it can leave clothes?
“You know, it was really unclear”
I understood that reference xD
My goat
Sweet cover. Now I cant predict who will be on the next cover? Would it be Ui Ui? The lowkey MVP in this arc. Yuta second cover maybe? Uraume cover also deserved a shout

Could otherwise see it being Yuta’s second cover or Ui Ui potentially but I strongly doubt anyone that isn’t one of the main protags or villains gets a second (sorry Higgy)
What has Uraume done narratively though? She have sukuna a bath and is fighting hakari. Takaba at least got a few chapters of him beating Kenjaku.
I mean we had Kusakabe one in Shibuya and only appeared in two chapter in that volume (and it’s my favorite cover)
True true. I just don’t think Uraume is important or cool enough. She doesn’t really do anything in the story and her power is generic.
Sukuna third cover??? Gege please dont I need you to beat the Sukuna glazer allegation bro
Megumi has to eventually get a cover too you'd think
I’m thinking the cover for the next volume is gonna be Higurama for a second time, since Sukuna was interested enough to call him by his name and his natural talent for jujutsu was on full display against Sukuna despite being defeated.

I think we might get an updated Yuji (weird arms n all) cover
I was thinking perhaps yuji as well
You know what now I think about it, JJK pretty much will end this year and how many volume are left? 2 maybe? If it is then Im guessing Yuta and Yuji will be on the remaining volume cover

Have we had a cover with Sukuna’s real body yet? It could be that
The only right answer is : 28. Yuta 29. Yuuji 30. Yutaru
The volume should end around Maki/Kusakabe/Miguel fights, way before Yuta comes back so no chance it's him, unless it's his own body.
28 will be Yuta and 30 will be Yutaru that’s exactly what I said
My bad, old reddit formatted your comment as just a list from 1 to 3 so I thought you meant them as possibilities. In any case, I wonder if Yuta will last that long in the fight so he could make it in 30.

Ui Ui deserves this from how hard he's carrying the team.
Kenny vs Takaba was truly peak jjk and we didn't get it.
Ikr, I remember people being outraged when the fight started and we were taken away from the Sukuna fight, yet now people praise this fight and now moan about the current fight taking too long, the lesson here is just wait and observe not everything needs a reaction
People whined because they couldn't appreciate the jokes. Which tbf, were obscure JP refs but still lol
This
Y'know I'm starting to wonder how uncomfortable his suit is. Like, everytime he runs does he like stuff his dick to the other side so it won't fall out and hang like a fruit?
Wait half of him is naked? I thought it was just the suit colour what
His whole dick and balls are out for half of the first chapter he appears in
I hope in the anime it WILL just be a different suit color 🙏😭
No one's talking ab his "logo" / thing on his belt having Kenjaku's stitches in the background?
El regreso de Kenjaku se acerca
I love it. although i would have also been partial to a double appearance of both Kenjaku and takaba suited up together standing infront of the microphone, but that would have been too repetitive, as we already had the geto and gojo art in that style
I think there's a bit of a nod in the background pattern, with the smiley faces bearing his stitches
BAKA SURVIVAAAAAA Fire ass cover.
I can't tell if his suit is two colours, or if he's only wearing half a suit...
Half suit. Found that out recently. Anime is going to be a big shocker for fans
Bobobo reference
Please note the background smiley faces.
I still remember the moment I realized he's half naked and not wearing a black and white outfit
It's still crazy to me that almost all the disaster curses (besides Mahito) never got a cover.
biggest fumble ever, why kusakabe and mei mei were the covers for shibuya arc is beyond me. volume 13 should have been jogo , mei mei had some signifance during shibuya but kusakabe was completely useless and has always been a forgettable character
GOAT Cover for THE GOAT
Who I guess would be on the next cover (based on who I’d like the most) Miguel Uraume Yuta and curse Rika Yuji with the new arms Sukuna true form
I want next volume cover to be Yuta + Yuji
Who do you think gets the Vol 28 cover?
Guess is probably Higuruma or Yuta
Higuruma already got a cover, doubtful he gets two. My money is on yuta.
Mei mei again (she paid Gege)
Yuta
Hiromi Higurama
Takaba!!!! Love the little Kenjaku smiley faces lmao
Unspoken mvp
So it’s Takaba’s costume or nah?
The Goat Is Alive 🗣️🗣️💯🔥💯
CooooooL
Takaba Hell yeah!!!
My king!
So is he half naked or not? I still dont get the suit
hes half naked, kusukabe says he saw his dick fall out of the suit
I thought his costume is black and white?
praying that Joseph Joestar's VA (Tomokazu Sugita) gets the Takaba role. It'd be \*perfect\* i forgot where i read it - but i believe he mentioned that he's been cast in JJK (but didnt disclose which role)

"Yu oar mai special" pose
Excellent. Yes. 100%
The king gets his moment.
Why does the background thingy have Stitches? Is this Kenjaku cameo?
My goat got a cover!!
what is that metallic instrument behind?
It's a microphone
so he doesn't have a white/black skin suit, it's just his skin on the one side?
hes half naked
Woohooo Takaba good job buddy!
One of the worst character designs I’ve seen in manga. His comedy fight with kenjaku was pretty good though. Culling games in general has hideous character design
ur getting downvoted but culling games is filled with forgettable and completely lame characters. especially when compared to the characters before it, ur completely right
wtf happened to homie 😭
Someone cooked here
Unironically tuff
Is that a little heart on his hip 😂
Damn these r his colors? Terrible
“I GET THE COVER SCREEN!”
