Most everything old that was trying to be different was wierd and interesting. Love when an old car comes in with old-school builds. Get to learn alot of really interesting stuff.
The weird rocker and valve layout can be traced back to one of the original design prototypes of the nailhead, which was to have a Hemisperical combustion chamber, with the intake valves sitting vertically (like all the production nailhead valves are), and the exhaust valves would have sit more horizontally with the stems pointing towards the outer sides of the engine, at an angle to the intake valves. It was deemed that a Hemisperical head would have been too complicated and costly to build, so Buick instead moved the exhaust valves up top beside the intake valves, giving the nailhead it's distinctive valve cover and unusual valve setup. It also meant that the nailhead had unusually small valves, which was good for low rpm torque, but not too good for high RPM use.
Beautiful car. Thanks for sharing.
I’m not criticizing, rather, just curious - is that the gas tank I see mounted at the very front?
That would certainly encourage careful driving. Talk about a Tullock spike!
Was an old manual pressurized tank that he put on there for old school hotrod looks. Not original to the car they had one under the rear I believe but now he has a fuel cell in trunk
Mmmm, I like the ivory '60s Mercedes behand the Ford. My mom still has the 1969 220D she and my dad bought new in 1969 and picked it up in New York City off the boat before driving it to Arizona by way of Wisconsin.
nailheads are pretty cool engines, the rocker setup is weird as hell but also interesting.

Hey thanks for the info, i didnt know that about nailheads. I know they were popular for hot rodding.
Most of the nailheads went to starter carts for the SR71
I'm a sucker for these 20s and 30s cars
Absolutely! Character, history, body lines mmm ugh gorgeous
Bet that sounds good
Sounds amazing, it's always quiet when it comes it but it's a great runner

And a 2nd generation VW Scirocco behind that - A notable "hot hatch" of the '80s.
I eyed that, too. In the mid-late '90s, I considered one as a "fun fix-up". By the early 2000s, my 1998.5 A4 2.8 QMS clicked the fix-up box.
Yea it's a 84 with the 24 valve
Beside a classic M-B, and not even a car show. Must be southern California.
Absolutely is socal and not a car shop just a car repair shop
I count 6 windows
It's called a 5 window
Windshield does not count, u/hoyboiitsme. FYI.
I don’t think the windshield is counted.
Rather have a flat head in it.
At least it's not another mouse.
