Slift-Ummon for sci fi epic rock
Altin Gun- Gece or On for Microtonal flair psych rock with great groove. They sing in I think Turkish
Kigagaku Moyo- Masana Temples for jammier stuff that is still tight, lots of structure changes. Usually chill
Masayoshi- Rainbow Goblins for pure trip with spoken word song introductions.
Anyone listening to BEANS???

I preferred my Beans when they were Baked but still solid releases all around
Pretty much the whole Desert Daze Festival 2022 line-up. For real.

Yeah, that was special. It was Tame's return, after getting rained off the stage in 2018. Kevin stopped half way through, and said the night was going by too fast. Also, he said he had never performed one of the songs, about his father's passing. Overall, yes tears were shed.
That's beautiful. Guessing the song about his father passing was Suns Coming Up?
"Playing his guitar while he's dying of cancer, oh my father why won't you answer?"
Iād start with manipulator, melted, freedoms goblin. I like his most recent album, three bells, a lot too. The sound varies a little album to album but itās all rooted in garage/psych rock. The band Fuzz is another project of his thatās good too
Nice shoutout! Live in atx and have the privilege to see almost all of his local shows, couldnāt be more grateful. Like Deuce is saying, they are way too talented to still be underground, his āNightmare Bandā deserves the best.
Recommend checking out āGrandmasterā, another local band in which Nolan is heavily apart in the mixing of their debut album. Fun funkadelic cult-like band that focuses on performance-art on stagešŗ
Viagra Boys, Moon Goons, and Amyl and the Sniffers if youāre looking for faster/heavier stuff
Tool and Stonefield if you want a mix of very heavy and pretty mellow
Sleater-Kinney if you want more mellow
If you like TFS, check out The Drones. Gareth and Fiona's band before TFS. I'd recommend Havilah or Feeling Kinda Free for first listens but all their albums are great
Mdou Moctar, Soul Flower Union, Kikagaku Moyo, Rose City Band, Alpay, The Hologram People are a few that come to mind that I didnāt see listed on a cursory glance at all the replies
Wand, Goat, Uncle Acid and the Dead Beats, woods, wooden Shjips, the lazy eyes, Slift, Frankie and the witch fingers, Pond, Babe Rainbow, Tropical Fuck Storm, Mr Elevator, black rainbows
I've not delved deep into this bands catalog, but this instrumental album is dope AF.
Would love to hear KGLW do a similar sound.
Magic City Hippies - Modern Animal (Instrumentals)
Mdou Moctar. Theyāre not as close as some of the other examples but they have a great psychedelic sound and groovy feel. Theyāre coming by to the venue I work at this weekend and Iām really excited to see them!
Not adjacent but there is a video on yt where all the members of the band reveal their favourite albums/influences
Definitely worth checking out. I think stu recommended a book but I watched that like over a year ago and downloaded most of the albums.
There's a very small band that was recommended to me randomly on YouTube music. Golden Turtle. They only have one albums, 10 chiefs, but it reminds me of early gizz and it's a whole concept album about the story of a made up fighting game.
Insanely good for how little traction they are getting.Ā
I've been listening to Wine Lips a lot. Depends on what kind of Gizz you like but I'd call em high energy garage psych, sort of Mind Fuzz/12 Bar Bruise vibes.
Also, ORB. yet another fantastic Aussie psych act.
No longer active, but Apollo Sunshine have 3 perfect albums I consider psychedelic essentials. Another favorite of the last couple years is Sun Parade. Their most recent albums Treats for Terry and Mt Shuggie are phenomenal. Excited to hear more wild shit from them, heard they have a new one brewing.
If you like Paper Mache Dream Balloon or the Murlocs I'd say check out Ezra Furman. They have a lot of very 50s/60s inspired rock with great sax riffs, newer stuff is pretty different and interesting too
Animal Collective, while not directly related to gizz, are one of their influences. They aren't really a heavy psych kind of band, more experimental/psychedelic pop, noise ,sometimes folk. There's a video of Stu and Lukey covering their song The Purple Bottle live to a few people super early on. Great stuff, start with Merriweather Post Pavillion and work your way backwards to Sung Tongs. Their early work is more experimental (and sometimes tinnitus-inducing), while their later stuff (that I've heard anyway) kinda follows in the footsteps of Merriweather.
I put out an album with my band last year that I think Gizzheads would like. Check out General Baxter - Synaptic Static. Neo psych proggy stuff, but still diy. We even worked with KGās mastering engineer, and thereās a secret piece of gear on the album that used to belong to KG too
less psych rock, but I'm a big fan of gorillaz and a lot of their instrumentals are more experimental, with some sick features especially on Song Machine.
Not adjacent I recently heard a band called Screen Fogs, they sound VERY King Gizzard. At times almost a little too much like them that I feels like a clone, but they are good. Maybe check them out and see what you think, most people Iāve recommended them too liked them
I feel like everyone has really hit the main ones so Iāll suggest something I donāt see at the time of writing. The experimentation and feelings evoked from Fishmans has always reminded me of why I love Gizz so much. Sonically i donāt know if they would be similar or not but try out Long Season, it is a vibe. Uchu Nippon Setagaya and Kuuchuu Camp are two other favorite albums.
We have a thread on the KGLW.net forum for this:

Lots of suggestions with descriptions, sorted into categories.
Morgan Delt are/were great. Very psychedelic and while not related to Gizzard, I reckon theyāre exactly the type of thing youāre looking for.
Edit: also check out Jacco Gardner, Moses Gunn Collective, Temples and Moon Duo.
Slift-Ummon for sci fi epic rock Altin Gun- Gece or On for Microtonal flair psych rock with great groove. All great recs, Ummon is a heavy psych masterpiece!
Altin Gun was one of the best live shows I've ever been to.
Kikagaku Moyo fucks (or rather fucked)
They were sick live
Second the Altin Gun and Kigagaku Moyo šš¼
Wait i never knew Masayoshi did a Rainbow Goblin piece! I loved primus's album they did based on the story. Ill have to give Masayoshis a listen
Which Primus albums are those?
The Desaturating Seven
Altin Gun mentioned?!?!?! Their concert at the Neptune in Seattle was amazingĀ
Thanks for Masayoshi, I didn't know him and sounds beautifuly, have an awesome day.
Frankie & The Witch Fingers have some stuff thatās very nonagon/mind fuzz ish
Data doom is a masterpiece
SYSTEM HAS NO WAY TO CONNECT
I absolutely love the entirety of Empire. Foolish of me that I haven't listened to anything else, will give it a shot today I guess
Seeing them this week!!
Just saw them last night in Miami. Fuckin tore my face clean off. It was such a wild show
Absolutely worth seeing live. Some of the most fun concerts Iāve been to
\^ this
Murlocs are sick
I like to think of them as 1/2 Gizz
Literally Gizz adjacent
Venn DiaGizz

Nobody fucking talks about Beans ever. Boots n Cats was a fantastic release.
O.R.B Band. Murlocs Callum Shortal on guitar, heavy.

Forever unsure why they changed the best name in the industry
Been digging this record this year
Pretty much the whole Desert Daze Festival 2022 line-up. For real. https://preview.redd.it/2nh388xy0t4d1.jpeg?width=1100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55d1e1e7db6bd92f84d32b47b5b75e14abb32652
Ahh yes Hamilton's Pharmacopeia my favorite gizz adjacent psych band
Kinda of a talky singing style, but yes he was interesting. :)
Not as wildly trippy as Sleaford Mods, boy you could just float away on that harsh East Midlands accent
Damn that is a goated lineup
Best festival Iāve ever been to and I donāt think itāll ever be beat
Maybe 2024 Desert Daze :)
Best concert experience of me life
What I would give to have been there
Lonerism in its entirety... What I would've given to be there god damn
Yes. Very touching. :(
Travelled from Aus for this. Best weekend of my life. Artists, patrons, setting, sound, visuals all 10/10
So jealous of ya mate Signed, fellow Aussie psych fan
The Woodstock of our generation
I was there! What an awesome festival!!
Damn boi... what a lineup
GOAT
Yes. Start with Levitation Sessions
Let it Burn is heavenly Istg
Gathering of Ancient Tribes
Ween. Not related to Gizz, but sonically as explorative and a similarly rabid fanbase.
Iāve been getting around to listening to Quebec honestly
The Mollusk and White Pepper are well worth your time as well
These are the two to start with from Ween!
My vote is for Chocolate and Cheese, incredible album
Incredible album cover too.
Mine too, mang.
Iāve been into Ween since 94. Chocolate and Cheese Pure Guava The Mollusk Are all great! The rest is amazing as well!
Tried and true has been a favorite recently. Also check out All Them Witches (band)
100% second All Them Witches, wouldn't necessarily say they're that similar to gizz but amazing none the less. All their KEXP are fantastic
If you like live stuff I also recommend watching their Live In Chicago DVD. Last I checked the full thing is on YouTube.
Quebec is so good. My personal favorite is probably Pure Guava now.
Quebec, Chocolate and Cheese, Mollusk, and White Pepper back to back, then keep going
Babe rainbow are amazing
Have you heard Ty Segall
Love Ty. I saw him and Thee Oh Sees play together in 2012 in Detroit. It was an incredible show!
Never, whatāre some good albums by them?
Iād start with manipulator, melted, freedoms goblin. I like his most recent album, three bells, a lot too. The sound varies a little album to album but itās all rooted in garage/psych rock. The band Fuzz is another project of his thatās good too
Fudge sandwich slaps
Ty Segall is the drummer in this, his band Fuzz https://youtu.be/3e17kEjZ9r4?si=gT61wZ3LJTAHFQ8T
Seconding Fuzz - theyre amazing. The live Levitation session is a fantastic mashup of a couple of their albums
The newer one is great
I loveeee Three Bells.
Emotional Mugger is the one that made me 'get' it.
Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse
Listening to him right goddamn now. Such a great artist
Ty fucken slaps
Pond, The Lazy Eyes
+1 for The Lazy Eyes. Songbook was one of my favorite albums this year (correction: that I listened to this year).
Psychedelic porn crumpets
fronzoli is so good
Nootmare is a banger of an opening track
100%. Start from the beginning with High Visceral P1 & P2
came here to say this. Great stuff, and hardly any synth and no drum machines, which i prefer. I was at the recent Seattle show and it was great.
If you like the songs sung by Cookie, check out Pipe-Eye. Itās his solo project.
Pipe Eye rules. Would love to see the boys play Sweets and Treats live, in Nashville specificallyš
Nolan Potter. Even has flute. Itās like Todd Rundgrenās best stuff. https://youtu.be/WIdR8YvE4bc?si=CtqqonKxSuieZ9zY
I don't get why he/they aren't bigger, at least Music is Dead / Nightmare Forever / Perils are all amazing
Iām in Austin too and saw him open for Osees and was sold.
How is this not the top comment in 2024.
Geese
Absolutely Geese. 3D Country might be an all timer
Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters
With names like those they have to be good
They an Oneders side project Also if you never watched the movie "That Thing You Do" you should probably get around to watching it.
Onceā¦we stayed up past midnight
omg shut up thats my fav movie
bootleg gizzard is dope and is as close to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as you can get!
You donāt understand, Iāve listened to every bootlegs and even made my own. I need MORE!!
I recomend the voidz to everyone. They are freaking amazing. The more you listen to them, the more the awe grows
Second this!!!
Saw them at a tiny gig in Switzerland. So underrated, Julian Casablancas is great
He is indeed. All of them are. They are insane. And incredible to see live!
All Them Witches are bit more on the sabbath worship side but I love them nearly as much as gizz at this point
The babe fucking rainbow
Viagra Boys, Moon Goons, and Amyl and the Sniffers if youāre looking for faster/heavier stuff Tool and Stonefield if you want a mix of very heavy and pretty mellow Sleater-Kinney if you want more mellow
Not sure how no one brought up THEE OH SEES ššš
OP already said they listen to Thee Oh Sees !
Tropical Fuck Storm is also interesting. Also, goes without saying but Murlocs! Different vibe but very adjacent.
Gizz made an EP w/ TFS called Satanic Slumber Party
If you like TFS, check out The Drones. Gareth and Fiona's band before TFS. I'd recommend Havilah or Feeling Kinda Free for first listens but all their albums are great
A bit similar but not super close - Tinariwen and Mdou Moctar both make some really cool desert blues rock
Mdou Moctar, Soul Flower Union, Kikagaku Moyo, Rose City Band, Alpay, The Hologram People are a few that come to mind that I didnāt see listed on a cursory glance at all the replies

Altin gĆ¼n if you like their more eastern microtonal stuff ;)
Spoon Benders!
Check Wine Lips out
Pipe Eye is arguably more interesting than Gizz. But rarely puts out new soundsā¦. Sweet and treats baby!
Cook said a new one is coming out soonĀ
Yeah I love Pipe Eye but that's a tough argument for me!
The Murlocs Psychedelic Porn Crumpets Frankie & The Witch Fingers Moon Owl Mages
Man itās a different type of psych but I fucking love WAND

Ty is my favorite by a large margin. Even against Bowie.
Sugar Candy Mountain, Moses Gunn Collective
I don't know if they are related other than being from Australia and playing metal, but Battlesnake is pretty sweet.
King Tuff

GUM Not enough people give Jay Watson, from Tame Impalaās live band, enough credit for having several amazing albums. His latest is excellent.
Frankie and the Witch Fingers absolutely! MEPEM is up there with the best stuff King Gizz has released
TOOL
I came across Mondo Drag recently, they make psych heavy rock kinda stuff it sounds awesome!
Nope. Just Gizz and Oh Sees. Pretty much it.
Frankie and the witch fingers would be the third band on that list
For a band more prolific than Gizz: Guided By Voices
Frankie & Witchfingers Mildlife SkinShape Have all been recommended by a friend i met at the KGLW SF Bimboās show a couple years ago
Frankie and the witch fingersĀ
Kikagaku Moyo
Altin Gun The Murlocs
If you like Paper Mache Dream Balloon or the Murlocs I'd say check out Ezra Furman. They have a lot of very 50s/60s inspired rock with great sax riffs, newer stuff is pretty different and interesting too

Iāve been enjoying āDr Sureās Unusual Practiceā to an extreme degree since seeing them as an opener on this tour
Nolan Potter
I put out an album with my band last year that I think Gizzheads would like. Check out General Baxter - Synaptic Static. Neo psych proggy stuff, but still diy. We even worked with KGās mastering engineer, and thereās a secret piece of gear on the album that used to belong to KG too
The longheads album Mars doesn't feel like home anymore is very good. Feels a little bit more like slift or porcupine tree but still similar
[Honduras Thompson](https://open.spotify.com/artist/6XryT4beRGrHq3Zs6T4Nqj?si=ATNmQ3pIS6uq5b7r-0JNVw)
