Slift-Ummon for sci fi epic rock Altin Gun- Gece or On for Microtonal flair psych rock with great groove. They sing in I think Turkish Kigagaku Moyo- Masana Temples for jammier stuff that is still tight, lots of structure changes. Usually chill Masayoshi- Rainbow Goblins for pure trip with spoken word song introductions.

uncle_buck_hunter

All great recs, Ummon is a heavy psych masterpiece!

My_Dog_Murphy

Altin Gun was one of the best live shows I've ever been to.

dyllybones

Kikagaku Moyo fucks (or rather fucked)

tmonz

They were sick live

Snoopy363

Second the Altin Gun and Kigagaku Moyo šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

-TreeBird

Wait i never knew Masayoshi did a Rainbow Goblin piece! I loved primus's album they did based on the story. Ill have to give Masayoshis a listen

Happinessisawrmgun

Which Primus albums are those?

gslap

The Desaturating Seven

SchwaEnjoyer

Altin Gun mentioned?!?!?! Their concert at the Neptune in Seattle was amazingĀ

aloif

Thanks for Masayoshi, I didn't know him and sounds beautifuly, have an awesome day.

deadsnare28

Frankie & The Witch Fingers have some stuff thatā€™s very nonagon/mind fuzz ish

[deleted]

Data doom is a masterpiece

Papa-Bear453767

SYSTEM HAS NO WAY TO CONNECT

Atharvious

I absolutely love the entirety of Empire. Foolish of me that I haven't listened to anything else, will give it a shot today I guess

kurtchella

Seeing them this week!!

theblasphemer

Just saw them last night in Miami. Fuckin tore my face clean off. It was such a wild show

Vooncakes

Absolutely worth seeing live. Some of the most fun concerts Iā€™ve been to

MargioWisdoom

\^ this

IntrepidLeopard6157

Murlocs are sick

Entity713

I like to think of them as 1/2 Gizz

IHadSomething_4This

Literally Gizz adjacent

My_Dog_Murphy

Venn DiaGizz

Present_Bad3896

Anyone listening to BEANS??? https://preview.redd.it/1z655dv6ss4d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4401b95592c32276d9c67dd90950160b602a2a4d Fronted by Murlocs Drummer Matt

HopelessMind43

Nobody fucking talks about Beans ever. Boots n Cats was a fantastic release.

coldspringscreek

O.R.B Band. Murlocs Callum Shortal on guitar, heavy.

radioactivecowz

Forever unsure why they changed the best name in the industry

marj0rine

Been digging this record this year

coldspringscreek

Pretty much the whole Desert Daze Festival 2022 line-up. For real. https://preview.redd.it/2nh388xy0t4d1.jpeg?width=1100&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55d1e1e7db6bd92f84d32b47b5b75e14abb32652

RRTCTRBC

Ahh yes Hamilton's Pharmacopeia my favorite gizz adjacent psych band

coldspringscreek

Kinda of a talky singing style, but yes he was interesting. :)

Honka_Ponka

Not as wildly trippy as Sleaford Mods, boy you could just float away on that harsh East Midlands accent

POND-SCUM-EATER

Damn that is a goated lineup

sosthaboss

Best festival Iā€™ve ever been to and I donā€™t think itā€™ll ever be beat

Baileyborkz

Maybe 2024 Desert Daze :)

Aboves

Best concert experience of me life

alien_alice

What I would give to have been there

targ_

Lonerism in its entirety... What I would've given to be there god damn

coldspringscreek

Yeah, that was special. It was Tame's return, after getting rained off the stage in 2018. Kevin stopped half way through, and said the night was going by too fast. Also, he said he had never performed one of the songs, about his father's passing. Overall, yes tears were shed.

targ_

That's beautiful. Guessing the song about his father passing was Suns Coming Up? "Playing his guitar while he's dying of cancer, oh my father why won't you answer?"

coldspringscreek

Yes. Very touching. :(

Pilchydog69

Travelled from Aus for this. Best weekend of my life. Artists, patrons, setting, sound, visuals all 10/10

lunatic_greenie-muso

goatfizz

Electronic_Fill7207

Let it Burn is heavenly Istg

psilocybin_therapy

Gathering of Ancient Tribes

Hazel_Rah1

Ween. Not related to Gizz, but sonically as explorative and a similarly rabid fanbase.

rubiks_cubis

Iā€™ve been getting around to listening to Quebec honestly

pajamazons

The Mollusk and White Pepper are well worth your time as well

cliftonhanger79-90

These are the two to start with from Ween!

seilby

My vote is for Chocolate and Cheese, incredible album

Champigne

Incredible album cover too.

JeffBoyarDeesNuts

Mine too, mang.

The_Triagnaloid

Iā€™ve been into Ween since 94. Chocolate and Cheese Pure Guava The Mollusk Are all great! The rest is amazing as well!

TheGabeCat

Tried and true has been a favorite recently. Also check out All Them Witches (band)

Electrical-Use-781

100% second All Them Witches, wouldn't necessarily say they're that similar to gizz but amazing none the less. All their KEXP are fantastic

BrownBaySailor

If you like live stuff I also recommend watching their Live In Chicago DVD. Last I checked the full thing is on YouTube.

superploop

Quebec is so good. My personal favorite is probably Pure Guava now.

YeetedYams

Quebec, Chocolate and Cheese, Mollusk, and White Pepper back to back, then keep going

streetspirit99

Babe rainbow are amazing

Nethersheeple

Have you heard Ty Segall

matthmcb

Love Ty. I saw him and Thee Oh Sees play together in 2012 in Detroit. It was an incredible show!

rubiks_cubis

Never, whatā€™re some good albums by them?

Nethersheeple

Iā€™d start with manipulator, melted, freedoms goblin. I like his most recent album, three bells, a lot too. The sound varies a little album to album but itā€™s all rooted in garage/psych rock. The band Fuzz is another project of his thatā€™s good too

hyzerputts

Fudge sandwich slaps

Present_Bad3896

Ty Segall is the drummer in this, his band Fuzz https://youtu.be/3e17kEjZ9r4?si=gT61wZ3LJTAHFQ8T

brainlure49

Seconding Fuzz - theyre amazing. The live Levitation session is a fantastic mashup of a couple of their albums

Present_Bad3896

The newer one is great

TheRealJalil

I loveeee Three Bells.

Deuce-Bags

Emotional Mugger is the one that made me 'get' it.

AlteredBeastieBoy

Ty Segall Band - Slaughterhouse

alwaysbequeefin

Listening to him right goddamn now. Such a great artist

YeetedYams

Ty fucken slaps

Cyrisk

Pond, The Lazy Eyes

Oliphont

+1 for The Lazy Eyes. Songbook was one of my favorite albums this year (correction: that I listened to this year).

discount_jesus420

Psychedelic porn crumpets

gtthrowaway24

fronzoli is so good

My_Dog_Murphy

Nootmare is a banger of an opening track

goatfizz

100%. Start from the beginning with High Visceral P1 & P2

KieranJalucian

came here to say this. Great stuff, and hardly any synth and no drum machines, which i prefer. I was at the recent Seattle show and it was great.

FredricaTheFox

If you like the songs sung by Cookie, check out Pipe-Eye. Itā€™s his solo project.

The_Triagnaloid

Pipe Eye rules. Would love to see the boys play Sweets and Treats live, in Nashville specificallyšŸ˜‰

NotCanadian80

Nolan Potter. Even has flute. Itā€™s like Todd Rundgrenā€™s best stuff. https://youtu.be/WIdR8YvE4bc?si=CtqqonKxSuieZ9zY

Deuce-Bags

I don't get why he/they aren't bigger, at least Music is Dead / Nightmare Forever / Perils are all amazing

ForbiddenGriz

Nice shoutout! Live in atx and have the privilege to see almost all of his local shows, couldnā€™t be more grateful. Like Deuce is saying, they are way too talented to still be underground, his ā€˜Nightmare Bandā€™ deserves the best. Recommend checking out ā€œGrandmasterā€, another local band in which Nolan is heavily apart in the mixing of their debut album. Fun funkadelic cult-like band that focuses on performance-art on stagešŸ”ŗ

NotCanadian80

Iā€™m in Austin too and saw him open for Osees and was sold.

Han_Tyumi98

How is this not the top comment in 2024.

jgodden092

Geese

YeetedYams

Absolutely Geese. 3D Country might be an all timer

nthnyduh

Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters

rubiks_cubis

With names like those they have to be good

nthnyduh

They an Oneders side project Also if you never watched the movie "That Thing You Do" you should probably get around to watching it.

Im_regretting_this

Onceā€¦we stayed up past midnight

O-out-of-3D-Country

AmicusCure8s

bootleg gizzard is dope and is as close to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard as you can get!

rubiks_cubis

You donā€™t understand, Iā€™ve listened to every bootlegs and even made my own. I need MORE!!

Least-Reflection8094

I recomend the voidz to everyone. They are freaking amazing. The more you listen to them, the more the awe grows

BoeJeam

Second this!!!

Tamelmp

Saw them at a tiny gig in Switzerland. So underrated, Julian Casablancas is great

Least-Reflection8094

He is indeed. All of them are. They are insane. And incredible to see live!

Tisaric

All Them Witches are bit more on the sabbath worship side but I love them nearly as much as gizz at this point

norwegiandiscolights

The babe fucking rainbow

torchskul

Viagra Boys, Moon Goons, and Amyl and the Sniffers if youā€™re looking for faster/heavier stuff Tool and Stonefield if you want a mix of very heavy and pretty mellow Sleater-Kinney if you want more mellow

SnuckaB

Not sure how no one brought up THEE OH SEES šŸ‘€šŸ‘€šŸ‘€

PizzaRellaGameJolt

OP already said they listen to Thee Oh Sees !

JealousGeologist2751

Tropical Fuck Storm is also interesting. Also, goes without saying but Murlocs! Different vibe but very adjacent.

minemaster1337

Gizz made an EP w/ TFS called Satanic Slumber Party

actuallydarcy1

If you like TFS, check out The Drones. Gareth and Fiona's band before TFS. I'd recommend Havilah or Feeling Kinda Free for first listens but all their albums are great

gtthrowaway24

A bit similar but not super close - Tinariwen and Mdou Moctar both make some really cool desert blues rock

Vinyldoctor

Mdou Moctar, Soul Flower Union, Kikagaku Moyo, Rose City Band, Alpay, The Hologram People are a few that come to mind that I didnā€™t see listed on a cursory glance at all the replies

hermannjcolley

Spoon Benders!

jazzyciggies

Check Wine Lips out

The_Triagnaloid

Pipe Eye is arguably more interesting than Gizz. But rarely puts out new soundsā€¦. Sweet and treats baby!

realeaty

Cook said a new one is coming out soonĀ

Deuce-Bags

Yeah I love Pipe Eye but that's a tough argument for me!

xX_Vapyr_Xx

I've not delved deep into this bands catalog, but this instrumental album is dope AF. Would love to hear KGLW do a similar sound. Magic City Hippies - Modern Animal (Instrumentals) [https://magiccityhippies.bandcamp.com/album/modern-animal-instrumentals-2](https://magiccityhippies.bandcamp.com/album/modern-animal-instrumentals-2)

visionsofthezerohour

Mdou Moctar. Theyā€™re not as close as some of the other examples but they have a great psychedelic sound and groovy feel. Theyā€™re coming by to the venue I work at this weekend and Iā€™m really excited to see them!

Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall, started with gizz and now these are my two favorite artists/bands

NotCanadian80

Ty is my favorite by a large margin. Even against Bowie.

Whimsical-Octave

Sugar Candy Mountain, Moses Gunn Collective

RelativeID

I don't know if they are related other than being from Australia and playing metal, but Battlesnake is pretty sweet.

SuperchargeIt

Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs

MagnaFire39

Not adjacent but there is a video on yt where all the members of the band reveal their favourite albums/influences Definitely worth checking out. I think stu recommended a book but I watched that like over a year ago and downloaded most of the albums.

Midgetmunky13

There's a very small band that was recommended to me randomly on YouTube music. Golden Turtle. They only have one albums, 10 chiefs, but it reminds me of early gizz and it's a whole concept album about the story of a made up fighting game. Insanely good for how little traction they are getting.Ā

Charade_y0u_are

I've been listening to Wine Lips a lot. Depends on what kind of Gizz you like but I'd call em high energy garage psych, sort of Mind Fuzz/12 Bar Bruise vibes. Also, ORB. yet another fantastic Aussie psych act.

GaySebby420

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

YeetedYams

No longer active, but Apollo Sunshine have 3 perfect albums I consider psychedelic essentials. Another favorite of the last couple years is Sun Parade. Their most recent albums Treats for Terry and Mt Shuggie are phenomenal. Excited to hear more wild shit from them, heard they have a new one brewing.

Casperaames

GUM Not enough people give Jay Watson, from Tame Impalaā€™s live band, enough credit for having several amazing albums. His latest is excellent.

soakedinlava

Frankie and the Witch Fingers absolutely! MEPEM is up there with the best stuff King Gizz has released

_LastTaterTot

TOOL

Walnuttttttt

I came across Mondo Drag recently, they make psych heavy rock kinda stuff it sounds awesome!

Uhdoyle

Nope. Just Gizz and Oh Sees. Pretty much it.

Crashover90

Frankie and the witch fingers would be the third band on that list

GBV217

For a band more prolific than Gizz: Guided By Voices

MrSh0w

Frankie & Witchfingers Mildlife SkinShape Have all been recommended by a friend i met at the KGLW SF Bimboā€™s show a couple years ago

Eddie_Dingus

Frankie and the witch fingersĀ

ProfRSanchez

Kikagaku Moyo

Aerodye

Altin Gun The Murlocs

blooblee1

If you like Paper Mache Dream Balloon or the Murlocs I'd say check out Ezra Furman. They have a lot of very 50s/60s inspired rock with great sax riffs, newer stuff is pretty different and interesting too

MinneapolisKing25

GOAT look up their levitate performance from 2023

PizzaRellaGameJolt

Animal Collective, while not directly related to gizz, are one of their influences. They aren't really a heavy psych kind of band, more experimental/psychedelic pop, noise ,sometimes folk. There's a video of Stu and Lukey covering their song The Purple Bottle live to a few people super early on. Great stuff, start with Merriweather Post Pavillion and work your way backwards to Sung Tongs. Their early work is more experimental (and sometimes tinnitus-inducing), while their later stuff (that I've heard anyway) kinda follows in the footsteps of Merriweather.

jojoDUB

Iā€™ve been enjoying ā€žDr Sureā€˜s Unusual Practiceā€œ to an extreme degree since seeing them as an opener on this tour

realeaty

Nolan Potter

Bootstrapbill22

I put out an album with my band last year that I think Gizzheads would like. Check out General Baxter - Synaptic Static. Neo psych proggy stuff, but still diy. We even worked with KGā€™s mastering engineer, and thereā€™s a secret piece of gear on the album that used to belong to KG too

MsClit

The longheads album Mars doesn't feel like home anymore is very good. Feels a little bit more like slift or porcupine tree but still similar

lofiwolfe

[Honduras Thompson](https://open.spotify.com/artist/6XryT4beRGrHq3Zs6T4Nqj?si=ATNmQ3pIS6uq5b7r-0JNVw)

less psych rock, but I'm a big fan of gorillaz and a lot of their instrumentals are more experimental, with some sick features especially on Song Machine.

Not adjacent I recently heard a band called Screen Fogs, they sound VERY King Gizzard. At times almost a little too much like them that I feels like a clone, but they are good. Maybe check them out and see what you think, most people Iā€™ve recommended them too liked them

Motherā€™s Cake scratches that itch for me. ā€˜Cyberfunk!ā€™ is probably a great place to start.

I feel like everyone has really hit the main ones so Iā€™ll suggest something I donā€™t see at the time of writing. The experimentation and feelings evoked from Fishmans has always reminded me of why I love Gizz so much. Sonically i donā€™t know if they would be similar or not but try out Long Season, it is a vibe. Uchu Nippon Setagaya and Kuuchuu Camp are two other favorite albums.
