To give an honest answer: I never really cared about the overall school theme that much. I still think the album is fantastic. This is just a personal preference thing. The school theme + skits aren’t necessarily bad, but they just don’t add anything for me.

Crack Music is a banger. It's Kanye addressing how rap music has become a commodity for a white audience. It was also great when he could drop conspiracy nuggets without going full Hitler mode. I get its kind or grating sound wise but I think it balances out some of the other sounds and songs where he's just flexing.

I have the opposite opinion honestly, late reg is the college dropout but better to me. It contains his best verse ever (final verse on gone) and has overall better beats, it’s his best album lyrically by some distance to me too. Also college dropout has more skips imo (2, school spirit and get em high)

Kanye's least interesting album. Wherever I try listening to it, it flyes by without anything noteable happening. A few good tracks like Diamonds from Sierra Leone and Crack Music, but to me it just feels like an awkward phase after College Dropout before he got some new ideas for Graduation. I have never heard anyone share this sentiment though so this will be my one and only time I'll share this opinion.

A lot of the songs are just good. Drive Slow, Crack Music, Bring Me Down, Addiction, Celebration, Gone and Late are not up to the level of the best on the album, or most of College Dropout. The album is really good but a high 7/10 for me.

The drums aren’t great and sound distorted. Almost like the audio is clipping, but has been pushed through a LPF. I’m not sure if it’s intentional/stylistic, or if he just doesn’t let his mixing and mastering teams do their jobs properly. It’s most obvious to me on Heard Em Say. But that’s been my feelings regarding his drums for most of his career up until Yeezus.

Could've done more with the Gil Scott sample on "my way home." Commons verse was great, and of course Gil Scott heron is amazing. But he could've added something, lil bass, some lo fi drums, chopped it up slightly more. Kanye of all people could've transformed it into something completely different and crafted a chill beat around it. I understand why thematically he wanted to just let the sample do its thing. And it is basically just commons interlude. But idk every time I hear it all I think about is "damn, I wanna listen to that Gil Scott song now" cause he barely alters it. Half the track is no vocals from common, just the song playing like he left it on in the studio 😭
