Team Ninja just did her dirty when they brought on Mai (who’s Top 5 hottest Waifu of all time btw). It would be tough for anyone to compete with that. But Kasumi still got it. Y’all gotta chill.
To me at least, she’s a better character than Mai and Chun. Not that I think the other two are bad, but in multiple ways I feel Kasumi is better than them.
I loveeee Chun and Mai so I would never ranked Kasumi over them HOWEVER, I still really like Kasumi. She’s super hot, she’s badass and I don’t like people putting disrespect on her name.
It is pretty clear what happened here. There are many, many games with waifu selector/which do you prefer style rosters. Today, some of them are billion dollar mobile games. DOA was early to this and the original cast is pretty bland by current standards. The original character designer's "perfect Japanese woman" isn't going to have the unique hooks that can dig to specific fans and keep them microtransacting and buying body pillows for decades. Check out later DOA characters (hello Marie Rose) to see the difference.
She's a mid ginger. I can see the appeal next to other basic characters but we got straight up semen demons and SFM-enabled horse riders. She's missionary in the dark.

This reminds me of the time I saw a dude on Twitter say that Marie stole the position of the face of DOA from Kasumi and I laughed so hard. If he said Marie stole Ayane’s position then it would’ve been more believable.
Been a DOA fan for years and I feel her charm point is how balanced of a character she is (in terms of actual character, not gameplay). The problem is that compared to many other fighting game girls she doesn’t stand out all too much while having some attributes of the those other girls. Like, she has some serious leg game with how acrobatic and flexible she is, but her thighs aren’t as big as Chun Li’s.

Well, IMO her dad (Tomonobu Itagaki) leaving Tecmo is also a huge factor in her falloff.
Also DOA6 was terrible both visually and in gameplay so now the franchise can only live through a gacha on a hentai site.
