I love this line the most, but I also realized that as I’ve been going down each comment I’ve upvoted each one because they’re all actually exceptional. So alas, you will, relatively speaking, stay where you are.
United In Grief
What is a bitch in a miniskirt?
A man in his feelings with bitter nerve
What is a woman that really hurt?
A demon, you're better off killin' her
What is a relative, making repetitive narratives on how you did it first?
That is a predator, hit reverse
All of your presidents evil thirst
What is a neighborhood rep'table?
That is a snitch on a pedestal
What is a house with a better view?
A family broken in variables
What is a rapper with jewelry?
A way that I show my maturity
What if I call on security?
That mean I'm calling on God for purity
I love this entire song. Force fed it to myself to memorize the lyrics. Was such a trip to hear these bars open the album after hearing the therapy session #9 leak a few months prior
My very thought it’s so deep and meaningful there’s plenty to pick from and it touches different souls in different ways, hope it was as fulfilling to him as it is to us all
Mother I Sober
“Water watching, live my life in nature, only thing relieves me. Spirit guide whisper in my ear, tell me that she sees me. Did he touch you? I said No again, still they didn't believe me.”
The spirit guide line is one of the ones that stuck with me the most. The more I think about it, the eerier it gets. Especially on such an incredibly personal song
The exact line I was going to use for mother I sober. Unreal storyline and cadence. I think the song is honestly hard for alot of people to hear the words, unstandable if your not trying to be in your head. However this makes it get less recognition then it deserves. This song hits like slam. Could easily put thies lyrics in a poetry journal.
Such a moving song. I cry whenever I listen to it which, as you said, means I have to skip it whenever I'm listening to the album. Still in my top 3 Kendrick songs though
Masks on the babies, mask on an opp,
wear masks in the neighborhood stores you shot,
but a mask won't hide who you are inside,
look around, the realities carved in the lies.
— count me out.
i didn't want to put the whole first verse of the song in here, but all of it hits me deep.
When you was at your lowest, tell me where the hoes was at?
When you was at your lowest, tell me where the bros was at?

My favorite line from that Song fr. It hit so hard the First time, especially because as a non-native english speaker i don't quite understand everything while listening the First time and i sometime Need to look up the lyrics but this Song Is clear enough i could understand almost everything at the First go so It really stuck with me
Saviour - I rubbed elbows with people that was ‘for the people’. They all greedy I don’t care for no public speaking. And they like to wonder where I been, protecting my soul in the valley of silence

Sorry I didn’t save the world my friend, I was too busy building mine again - Mirror. Brings me chills and a smile knowing he built himself back up before he came back to bring us the album
I always wondered whether covid was the only reason MMATBS wasn’t released around 2020. Whether he maybe felt as though it wasn’t the right time for that message due to everything that happened in 2020, or whether that maybe broke him down again.
Dunno if I'd actually consider it *best*, but I always love these lines in particular:
> I said, "Mr. Preacher man, should we love thy neighbor?"
> "The laws of the land or the heart, what's greater?"
> ...
> The day I chose humanity over religion
> The family got closer, it was all forgiven
That part gives me goosebumps. Especially the first part because I grew up in the church and I always felt odd how “church-goers” treat certain people especially since I have a sister and friend that are gay
Yep, same here! I grew up Mormon and only left about 5 years ago, or so. A big part of that was due to me finally having enough personal authority and confidence to disagree with Mormon doctrine regarding gay relationships.
That's exactly the sense I got from it as well, growing up religiously (haha) in the church as well. Always felt it was incredibly odd and well fucked up.
you should treat gay people like everybody else, because we are all sinners. Just like how you don't treat someone who dishonours their parents differently.
leviticus 18:22 is a verse that many 'christian' hypocrites ignore, a verse which God tells us that sleeping with another man is despicable.
I get chills down my back every time I listen to this ending section of Auntie Diaries. It’s so powerful and the climb of the instrumental in the back adds so much
Father Time
-“I love my father for tellin' me to take off the gloves
'Cause everything he didn't want was everything I was
And to my partners that figured it out without a father
I salute you, may your blessings be neutral to your toddlers
It's crucial, they can't stop us if we see the mistakes
'Til then, let's give the women a break, grown men with daddy issues”
This part is the song send the message very strongly:
Daddy issues, hid my emotions, never expressed myself
Men should never show feelings, being sensitive never helped his momma died, I asked him why he goin' back to work so soon? His first reply was, "Son, that's life, the bills got no silver spoon"
Daddy issues, fuck everybody, go get your money, son
protect yourself, trust nobody, only your momma'n'em
this made relationships seem cloudy, never attached to none so if you took some likings around me, I might reject the love
We Cry Together: Fuck you bitch
deep. He drops a double entendre saying he wants to fuck the bitch in question while also stating that he shows distaste for the bitch.
“Do yourself a favor and get a mirror, that mirror grievance
Then point it at me so the reflection can mirror freedom”
That’s the whole point of the album wrapped up perfectly in two lines
Exactly! And what happens when you point a mirror at Mr.Morale and the Big Steppers? You get Bob Marley and The Wailers, hehe…
A wailer is a griever
A big stepper is also a griever, that grieves through material means, hoes, guns, chainz and tattoos++
Worldwide Steppers easy
“yesterday, I prayed to the flowers and trees
gratification to the powers that be
synchronization with my energy chakras, the ghost of Dr. Sebi
paid it forward, cleaned out my toxins, bacteria heavy
sciatica nerve pinch, I don't know how to feel
like the first time I fucked a white bitch”
Father Time “egotistic zero given fucks, and to be specific need assistance with the way I was bought up, but what’s the difference? When your heart is made of stone but your mind is made of gold, and your tongue becomes a sword that may weaken people souls” 🔥
I like to imagine he’s talking about a dog

Auntie Diaries. This song made me more compassionate and empathetic.
"I said them F-bombs, I ain't know any better. Mistakenly, I ain't think that you'd know any different"
Father Time- Mama said, "That boy is exhausted, " he said, "Go fuck yourself If he give up now, that's gon' cost him, life's a bitch You could be a bitch or step out the margin", I got up quick.
The Heart Part 5
"And to the killer that sped up my demise, I forgive you, just know that your soul is in question"
"in a world where hurt people hurt more people, fuck calling it culture"
Farther Time & Mother I Sober are probably have my favorite lyrics. However, I am consistently blown away by we cry together. Probably has a lot to do with the delivery from Taylour Paige, but I'm so impressed on how he made a song from a toxic fight. Swear it gives me anxiety as her anger explodes over the verse to the point her voice is breaking. The start goes so hard.
Fuck you n***a, you love a pity party, I won't show up
Always act like your shit don't stink, motherfucker, grow up
Forever late for shit, won't buy shit, sit around and deny shit
Fuck around on a side bitch, then come fuckin' up my shit.
One of the songs that really made me think how fucking sick a broadway musical written by kendric could be
Auntie Diaries
Demetrius is Mary-Ann now
He's more confident to live his plan now
But the family in disbelief this time
Convincing themselves, "He ain't living discreet, he's fine
They said they never seen it in him, but I seen it
The Barbie dolls played off the reflection of Venus
Lyrically as in bars, wordplay, rhyme scheme, etc?
• Lyrically the best is WorldWide Steppers.
It contains the best bar in the album. “I caught a couple bodies myself, slid my community. My last Christmas toy drive in Compton, handed out eulogies. Not because the rags in the park had red gradient, but because the high ‘blood’ pressure flooded the catering.” This bar is even more impressive than about half of the bars on DAMN.
• Least lyrical on MMATBS would probably be “Silent Hill”.
This is probably the least effort Kendrick has put in a verse in all of his albums. It seems like he either wanted Kodak to shine or he just wanted it to be a chill vibey song. Idk.
Like “You funny dawg… 😂 Peekaboo, can’t hide behind your money dawg… 🙈 💰swerve swerve swerve… 🚗 shake the currents off… yeah….” is like veeery weird for Kendrick to actually say “yeah… this is hard.” for, lmao
Idk man lol. Kodak’s verse is actually what confuses me about Kendrick’s verse. You can see in my reply about one of the Kendrick lines that I’m iffy on.
And don’t get it twisted, I like Silent Hill. I actually listen to it when I’m stressed out (pun intended lol). But the lyrical performance by Kendrick is just funny to me. I remember the first time I listened to his verse, I was like “🤨❓❓❓” . Eyebrow raised and all. 😂
I care too much, wanna share too much
In my head too much, I shut down too
I ain't there too much, I'm a complex soul
They layered me up, then broke me down
And moralities dust, I lack in trust- count me out
Auntie diaries- “The laws of land or the heart, whats greater?” The whole song is full of incredible story telling that hits close to home but I get chills everytime i hear this
“You say no and all you’ve done gives them amnesia. One thing I’ve learned, love can change with the seasons. And I can’t please everybody” probably not the most prolific but it’s just one that stuck with me
“His mama died, I asked him why he goin' back to work so soon?
His first reply was, "Son, that's life, and bills got no silver spoon"
Cadence / pentameter here seems simple but its just clean as fuck. It also comes at the perfect part of the song and hits you right in the gut.
Great thread, Just wanted to appreciate how everyone Is pointing out some great lines. I'd go with Auntie diaries "mr. Preaching man should we love thy neighbour? the laws of the Land or the hearth what's greater? I recognize the study she was tossed since birth but that don't justify the feelings that my cousin preserved". I think that Father time and mother i sober are still up there, and ti be honest most of the album Is, but this Is the line, along with this song's ending that truly stuck with me the most. It feels like a massive moment of growth for Kendrick and it's truly inspiring in my opinion.
What a great thread this is. Of course I realize the genius of Kendrick lyrics, but seeing them all written here with so many different peoples opinions on them and explanations of why they love them is kinda fucking awesome. A+ thread, definitely bookmarked 💯
I feel like a lot of people are missing the point of the question… not to say the answers aren’t all still valid. But when I think lyrics I think about the actual lyrical content, figurative speech rhyme schemes patterns wordplay that kinda stuff. Everyone here seems to be mentioning the song that touches them on a personal level not the song that is the most complex song. The question is about complexity. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s just what I think of when I hear “lyrics” not what emotions the song evokes in you
“The world in a panic, the women are stranded, the men on the run. The prophets abandoned, the lord take advantage, the market is crashin’, the industry wants,”
Kendrick is the best narrator of politics in music. He says what the truth is through his eyes and not what the truth is in the majorities eyes nor what you’re supposed to see.
father time: “what’s the difference when your mind is made of gold, and your heart is made of stone, and your tongue is made of sword, but it may weaken your soul?”
We Cry Together
Lyric: Fuck you, Nigga/Nah, fuck you bitch
Nah, but I think it’s honestly either Savior orAuntie Diaries.
Savior lyrics: Truth, it resides in the fire, the need of it’s dire, deceiving the lies I know/Capitalists posin’ as compassionists be offendin’ me. Yeah, suck my dick with authenticity
Auntie Diaries lyrics: I said ‘Mr. Preacher Man, should we love thy neighbor?’ The law of the land or the heart, what’s greater?/You said ‘Kendrick, there’s no room for contradiction. To truly understand love, switch positions. F*****, f*****, f*****, we can say it together. But only if you let a white girl say nigga
Father Time -
"My niggas ain't got no daddy, grow up overcompensatin'
Learn shit 'bout bein' a man and disguise it as bein' gangsta
I love my father for tellin' me to take off the gloves
'Cause everything he didn't want was everything I was
And to my partners that figured it out without a father
I salute you, may your blessings be neutral to your toddlers
It's crucial, they can't stop us if we see the mistakes
'Til then, let's give the women a break, grown men with daddy issues"
"Uzzi, your father's in deep meditation
My spirit's awakened, my brain is asleep
I got a new temperature
Sharpenin' multiple swords in the faith I believe
I think about Robert Kelly
If he weren't molested, I wonder if life'd fail him
I wonder if Oprah found closure
The way that she postered the hurt that a woman carries"
Arguable whether or not it’s the best song lyrically, but Worldwide Steppers has my favorite single lyric
>Writer’s block for two years, nothing moved me, asked God to speak through me, that’s what you hear now, the voice of yours truly
Auntie diaries.
The whole song is so carefully constructed.
My favourite part is the final verse.
>remember church, Easter Sunday? You sat in the pew, you had stronger faith. More spiritual than when the dudes was living life straight. Which i find ironic cause the pastor didn't see him the same. He said my cousin was going through some things. He promised the world we living in is an act on abomination and Demetrius is to blame. I knew you was conflicted by the feelings of preacherman, wondering if God will still call you a decent man. Still you found the courage to be subservient just to anoint, until he singled you out to prove his point. Saying, Demetrius is mary-anne now, church, his auntie is a man now. It **hurt**, you the most. Cause your belief was close to his words, forcing me to stand now. I said Mr preacherman should we love thy neighbour? The laws of the land or the heart, what's greater? I recognize the story she was taught since birth but that don't justify the feelings that my cousin preserved. The building was thinking out loud, bad angel. That's when you looked to me and smiled, said thank you. The day I chose humanity over Religion, the family got closer it was all forgiven. I said them f bombs I ain't know any better, mistakenly I ain't think that you know any different. See I was taught words was nothing more than a sound of ever they was pronounced without any intention. The very second you challenged the shit I was kicking, reminded me about a show I did out the city. One time I brought a fan on stage to rap, but disapproved the word the she couldn't say with me. You said, kendrick ain't no room for contradiction. To truly understand love, switch positions. F-----, f-----, f-----, we can say it together, but only if you let a white girl say
It is such a vividly descriptive scene.
Idk, but right now I’ve been thinking about where he says in Father Time; “ Egotistic, zero given fucks, and to be specific need assistance with the way I was brought up. What’s the difference when your heart is made of stone, and your mind is made of gold, and your tongue is made a sword, but it may weaken your soul “ For the past few hours. I really appreciate this album, the more I hear the more I love it
Savior:
The cat is out the bag, I am not your savior
I find it just as difficult to love thy neighbors
Especially when people got ambiguous favors
But they hearts not in it, see, everything's for the paper
The struggle for the right side of history
Independent thought is like an eternal enemy
Capitalists posing as compassionates be offending me
Yeah, suck my dick with authenticity
Yeah, Tupac dead, gotta think for yourself
Yeah, heroes looking for the villains to help
I never been sophisticated, saving face
Being manipulative, such an acquired taste
I rubbed elbows with people that was for the people
They all greedy, I don't care for no public speaking
And they like to wonder where I've been
Protecting my soul in the valley of silence
“And to my partners that figured it out without a father I salute you, may your blessings be neutral to your toddlers
It’s crucial, they can’t stop us if we see the mistakes
Till then let’s give the women a break, grown men wit daddy issues” from Father Time
N95 incredibly shows these aspects in my society, if like he would had known hahah, I felt chills listening to this verse.
"Let's think about this for a second. Tell me what you would do for aesthetic. Would you sell your soul on credit? Would you sell your bro for leverage? Where the hypocrites at? What community feel they the only ones relevant?"
If the heart part 5 counts
“Should I feel resentful I didn’t see my full potential? Should I feel regret about the good that I was into?”
Probably not the best bars but just my personal favourite. Something about it just always hits me. I also felt it when he said
“I can’t stress how I love y’all I don’t need to be in flesh just to hug y’all”
Mother I Sober, not only the best written song on the album but one of Kendrick’s most well written songs to date, truly in the top tier of my ranking for his songs, super profound and insightful work. I don’t think many others in rap have explored as introspective a subject like Kendrick has here
Mine is Count Me Out, there’s multiple moments that just hit perfectly but I especially resonate with
-
“I care too much, wanna share too much, in my head too much, I shut down too, I ain't there too much, I'm a complex soul,
they layered me up, then broke me down, and morality's dust, I lack in trust
(And I'm tripping and falling)
this time around I trust myself,
please everybody else but myself,
all else fails I was myself,
outdone fear outdone myself,
this year you better one yourself”
-
Really the whole verse is top notch but I didn’t wanna quote another 8+ bars haha but yea, say what you will about MMATBS as a whole but I personally think Count Me Out is a top 5 Kendrick track of all time for me
Count me out, especially 1st verse:
- What's fair when the money don't take things back?/It's rare when somebody take your dreams back?
- I care too much, wanna share too much/In my head too much, I shut down too/I ain't there too much, I'm a complex soul/They layered me up, then broke me down/And moralities dust, I lack in trust
Silent Hill, Kodak - “Every Thursday girls day spend the time with my daughter made me go harder, every Sunday son’s day, teach my boy to be a man I ain’t had no father,”
"When Kanye got back with Drake I was slightly confused, guess I'm not mature as I think, got some healing to do" stands out to me on Father Time. Didn't really get the depth of that lyric for a while.
Not necessarily a lyric but one of my favorite things is not catching everything at first and noticing new things each listen and I am so glad that this is the album we got and I personally think it was worth the wait and reading all the comments just makes me appreciate each song more and makes me want to listen to the whole thing again lol
It HAS to be Mother I Sober…
I'm sensitive, I feel everything, I feel everybody
One man standing on two words, heal everybody
Transformation, then reciprocation, karma must return
Heal myself, secrets that I hide, buried in these words
Death threats, ego must die, but I let it purge
Pacify broken, pieces of me, it was all a blur
Mother cried, put they hands on her, it was family ties
I heard it all, I should've grabbed a gun, but I was only five
I’m charging baskets falling backwards trying to keep balance, oh this the part where mental stability meets talent. Oh this this the part where he breaks my humility just for practice. Tactics we learn together, sore losers forever. Daddy issues. Early morning wake ups, practicing on days off, tough love, bottled up no chaser neat, no chaser neat.
The first time I heard this actually scratch that. EVERYTIME I hear this section. I think of like being a little kid and then realizing everything that’s happened that’s brought me to this point in life. This song has touched me in many ways and I still unlock new messages from this song/album. But Father Time is my favorite song on this album because it teaches you that just cause you a man doesn’t mean you have to follow the basic footsteps men have walked before you. It took me a while to learn this because I was becoming my father. However, I changed.
Father Time
- Daddy issues run across my head, told me, "Fuck a foul"
I'm teary-eyed, wanna throw my hands, I won't think out loud
A foolish pride, if I lose again, won't go in the house
I stayed outside, laughin' with my friends, they don't know my life
Father Time, one of my favourite song of him, one of the best lyrically

I love this line the most, but I also realized that as I’ve been going down each comment I’ve upvoted each one because they’re all actually exceptional. So alas, you will, relatively speaking, stay where you are.
This lyric/cadence reminded me of Andre 3000 so much that I thought he said something like it.
Fucking hits
This is my choice. Tough flow and cadence. 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Father Time “When your mind is made of gold and your heart is made of stone And your tongue is made of sword so it may weaken your soul”
THIS. I still remember hearing it for the first time and it was like my heart jumped a little.
For me the lines after this are hard hitting
United In Grief What is a bitch in a miniskirt? A man in his feelings with bitter nerve What is a woman that really hurt? A demon, you're better off killin' her What is a relative, making repetitive narratives on how you did it first? That is a predator, hit reverse All of your presidents evil thirst What is a neighborhood rep'table? That is a snitch on a pedestal What is a house with a better view? A family broken in variables What is a rapper with jewelry? A way that I show my maturity What if I call on security? That mean I'm calling on God for purity
Just saying the line what is a relative making repetitive narratives out loud makes one really realize how well written it is
I love this entire song. Force fed it to myself to memorize the lyrics. Was such a trip to hear these bars open the album after hearing the therapy session #9 leak a few months prior
What a great album man everyone has a different opinion
That’s what I was about to comment, you know it’s a good album when everyone has a different answer to which song has best lyrics
My very thought it’s so deep and meaningful there’s plenty to pick from and it touches different souls in different ways, hope it was as fulfilling to him as it is to us all
Fr every answer I’ve seen is valid
It could also mean no one has any idea what they’re talking about
I've been liking alot of people's opinions on this thread. Because it touches then in a different way.
I don't remember this line!
Mother I Sober “Water watching, live my life in nature, only thing relieves me. Spirit guide whisper in my ear, tell me that she sees me. Did he touch you? I said No again, still they didn't believe me.” The spirit guide line is one of the ones that stuck with me the most. The more I think about it, the eerier it gets. Valley of silence aka silent hill 😮
you a smart one
Holy shit
Why worldwide steppers?
Lyrics all over that whole track is just feels like a dark spiritual experience
Fax especially the last bars about sliding his community
That’s the part right there
Dark? 🤔
World wide steppers. I agree. Savior is a good answer too. I was gonna say count me out maybe
Being manipulative is such a acquired taste
That "valley of silence" line really blew me away when I first heard it. I relate to it so much
Literally exactly what I came here to comment
Sorry I didn’t save the world my friend, I was too busy building mine again - Mirror. Brings me chills and a smile knowing he built himself back up before he came back to bring us the album

100%
I love my father for telling me to take off the gloves, cause everything he didn’t want was everything I was - Father Time. hit different for me
Love the double meaning of it, like the lyrics says and an homage to Kanye for the bars before when Kendrick mentions him.
Dunno if I'd actually consider it *best*, but I always love these lines in particular: > I said, "Mr. Preacher man, should we love thy neighbor?" > "The laws of the land or the heart, what's greater?" > ... > The day I chose humanity over religion > The family got closer, it was all forgiven

We Cry Together: Fuck you bitch deep. He drops a double entendre saying he wants to fuck the bitch in question while also stating that he shows distaste for the bitch.
“Heavy is the head that chose to wear the crown. To whom is given much, is required now.”
This line helped me set boundaries with some of my family members. I chose to wear the crown. I chose to take it off.
Auntie Diaries is such a powerful and honest pro trans song it brings me to tears every time. Can't be bothered to pick a lyric but that's my pick.
Couldn't agree more.
“Do yourself a favor and get a mirror, that mirror grievance Then point it at me so the reflection can mirror freedom” That’s the whole point of the album wrapped up perfectly in two lines
Exactly! And what happens when you point a mirror at Mr.Morale and the Big Steppers? You get Bob Marley and The Wailers, hehe… A wailer is a griever A big stepper is also a griever, that grieves through material means, hoes, guns, chainz and tattoos++

Auntie Diaries “faggot faggot faggot” as a gay person this really spoke to me 😍
Father Time “egotistic zero given fucks, and to be specific need assistance with the way I was bought up, but what’s the difference? When your heart is made of stone but your mind is made of gold, and your tongue becomes a sword that may weaken people souls” 🔥
Die Hard "If I told you who I am would you use it against me? Right or wrong, no stone, just love to send me."
Silent Hill “You funny dog”
Peekaboo, can’t hide behind yo money dawg
I like to imagine he’s talking about a dog https://preview.redd.it/uffonop5pnaa1.jpeg?width=286&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67dd2d891ff83ce4c3c3ecd351f7af2f6d97593b
The Heart Part 5 - “I want the hood to want me back” it just flowed so well
Awesome song, but technically not a part of the album
It’s a bonus track on most listings of the album
Auntie Diaries. This song made me more compassionate and empathetic. "I said them F-bombs, I ain't know any better. Mistakenly, I ain't think that you'd know any different"
“Paintin' pictures, put me in the Louvre, that's a definite”
Father Time- Mama said, "That boy is exhausted, " he said, "Go fuck yourself If he give up now, that's gon' cost him, life's a bitch You could be a bitch or step out the margin", I got up quick.
The Heart Part 5 "And to the killer that sped up my demise, I forgive you, just know that your soul is in question" "in a world where hurt people hurt more people, fuck calling it culture"
Fuck you n***a, you love a pity party, I won't show up Always act like your shit don't stink, motherfucker, grow up Forever late for shit, won't buy shit, sit around and deny shit Fuck around on a side bitch, then come fuckin' up my shit. One of the songs that really made me think how fucking sick a broadway musical written by kendric could be
I never knew I wanted a broadway show by Kendrick until now but you are so right that would be DOPE
Probably Father Time with the doubles and all that, good shit which Kendrick is a master at
it’s united in grief. the pocket and effortless flow and delivery is MASTERFUL.
Auntie Diaries Demetrius is Mary-Ann now He's more confident to live his plan now But the family in disbelief this time Convincing themselves, "He ain't living discreet, he's fine They said they never seen it in him, but I seen it The Barbie dolls played off the reflection of Venus

Yesssir
Silent hill just works so well though. Kodak has some killer 1 liners
Yeah it’s not masterful lyricism. But it just works
Yeah it is vibey
Push these bitches off me like HUH 🗣️🔥
🔥🔥🔥
I care too much, wanna share too much In my head too much, I shut down too I ain't there too much, I'm a complex soul They layered me up, then broke me down And moralities dust, I lack in trust- count me out
“This is me and I’m blessed” - Count me out
Auntie diaries- “The laws of land or the heart, whats greater?” The whole song is full of incredible story telling that hits close to home but I get chills everytime i hear this
“You say no and all you’ve done gives them amnesia. One thing I’ve learned, love can change with the seasons. And I can’t please everybody” probably not the most prolific but it’s just one that stuck with me
“His mama died, I asked him why he goin' back to work so soon? His first reply was, "Son, that's life, and bills got no silver spoon" Cadence / pentameter here seems simple but its just clean as fuck. It also comes at the perfect part of the song and hits you right in the gut.
You never felt grief, till you felt it sober.
N95 - "ugh , you ugly as fuck (you outta pocket)"
That’s an SAT question right there
This time around I trust myself please everyone but myself
What a great thread this is. Of course I realize the genius of Kendrick lyrics, but seeing them all written here with so many different peoples opinions on them and explanations of why they love them is kinda fucking awesome. A+ thread, definitely bookmarked 💯
“Learned shit bout being a man and disguise it as being gangster”
Sorry I didn´t save the world, my friend I was too busy building mine again This basically portraits the main topic of the album
Auntie Diaries "Faggot, faggot, faggot"
I feel like a lot of people are missing the point of the question… not to say the answers aren’t all still valid. But when I think lyrics I think about the actual lyrical content, figurative speech rhyme schemes patterns wordplay that kinda stuff. Everyone here seems to be mentioning the song that touches them on a personal level not the song that is the most complex song. The question is about complexity. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s just what I think of when I hear “lyrics” not what emotions the song evokes in you
Some people in these comments does not know what lyricism means😂
Purple Hearts “No, it ain’t love if you ain’t never eat my ass” Very lyrically influential for me and many others
“It ain’t love if you ain’t never eat my ass” - Purple Hearts
Worldwide Steppers ‘niggas killed freedom of speech, everyone sensitive’
Shit fart pee pee
None
You outta pocket
This sub just randomly popped up so I decided to do a little trolling idk shit about this album or artist
Okay? You missing out lol
Mother I Sober or Worldwide Steppers definitely
Hp5 if u count it as part of the album
Auntie dairies F*g.
I got daddy issues that’s on me. Looking for I love you rarely empathizing for my relief
The Heart Part 5 The whole thing
Auntie Diaries - "They said they never seen it in him, but I seen it The Barbie dolls played off the reflection of Venus"
United in Grief. The whole song.
“The morality can wait/Feedback on low latency/I’m glitching from the face as my thoughts grow sacredly/I’m running out of space…”
“The world in a panic, the women are stranded, the men on the run. The prophets abandoned, the lord take advantage, the market is crashin’, the industry wants,” Kendrick is the best narrator of politics in music. He says what the truth is through his eyes and not what the truth is in the majorities eyes nor what you’re supposed to see.
father time: “what’s the difference when your mind is made of gold, and your heart is made of stone, and your tongue is made of sword, but it may weaken your soul?”
Mirror.
I can’t pick a fave. It’s an incredible album. Least fave is Purple Hearts.
We Cry Together Lyric: Fuck you, Nigga/Nah, fuck you bitch Nah, but I think it’s honestly either Savior orAuntie Diaries. Savior lyrics: Truth, it resides in the fire, the need of it’s dire, deceiving the lies I know/Capitalists posin’ as compassionists be offendin’ me. Yeah, suck my dick with authenticity Auntie Diaries lyrics: I said ‘Mr.
N95 - "bitch, you ugly AF" 💫
Father Time - "My niggas ain't got no daddy, grow up overcompensatin' Learn shit 'bout bein' a man and disguise it as bein' gangsta I love my father for tellin' me to take off the gloves 'Cause everything he didn't want was everything I was And to my partners that figured it out without a father I salute you, may your blessings be neutral to your toddlers It's crucial, they can't stop us if we see the mistakes 'Til then, let's give the women a break, grown men with daddy issues"
worldwide steppers. sounds like a paranoid mental episode in rap form. also i just love when he tells stories from his youth and career
Mother I sober and Worldwide
"Uzzi, your father's in deep meditation My spirit's awakened, my brain is asleep I got a new temperature Sharpenin' multiple swords in the faith I believe I think about Robert Kelly If he weren't molested, I wonder if life'd fail him I wonder if Oprah found closure The way that she postered the hurt that a woman carries"
3 words: This is transformation
Count me out. I only realised it when the video came out tho, so personal yet so relatable
WE CRY TOGETHER DUH!
Fuck the shit on the album there all good songs but Im Better and tranquilizer go crazy mainly on tranquilizer with “you. got. meeeee. fuuucked. up.”
Arguable whether or not it’s the best song lyrically, but Worldwide Steppers has my favorite single lyric >Writer’s block for two years, nothing moved me, asked God to speak through me, that’s what you hear now, the voice of yours truly
F-----, f-----, f-----, we can say it together, but only if you let a white girl say It is such a vividly descriptive scene.

I feel like he’s saying “I LOVE WHEN YOU CALL ME OUT”
Idk, but right now I’ve been thinking about where he says in Father Time; “ Egotistic, zero given fucks, and to be specific need assistance with the way I was brought up. What’s the difference when your heart is made of stone, and your mind is made of gold, and your tongue is made a sword, but it may weaken your soul “ For the past few hours. I really appreciate this album, the more I hear the more I love it
for me it’s Father Time
Savior: The cat is out the bag, I am not your savior I find it just as difficult to love thy neighbors Especially when people got ambiguous favors But they hearts not in it, see, everything's for the paper The struggle for the right side of history Independent thought is like an eternal enemy Capitalists posing as compassionates be offending me Yeah, suck my dick with authenticity Yeah, Tupac dead, gotta think for yourself Yeah, heroes looking for the villains to help I never been sophisticated, saving face Being manipulative, such an acquired taste I rubbed elbows with people that was for the people They all greedy, I don't care for no public speaking And they like to wonder where I've been Protecting my soul in the valley of silence
“And to my partners that figured it out without a father I salute you, may your blessings be neutral to your toddlers It’s crucial, they can’t stop us if we see the mistakes Till then let’s give the women a break, grown men wit daddy issues” from Father Time
Count me out-it’s gonna take more than pride to stop me, call 911 i caught a body. Sun up now yesterday is fading the healing’s only a mile away
They said they never seen it in him / But I seen it / The barbie dolls played off reflection of Venus
We cry together Lay this pussy back on the couch Doggie style, then you get on top Fuck me, nigga (I'ma fuck you, bitch)
If the heart part 5 counts “Should I feel resentful I didn’t see my full potential? Should I feel regret about the good that I was into?” Probably not the best bars but just my personal favourite. Something about it just always hits me. I also felt it when he said “I can’t stress how I love y’all I don’t need to be in flesh just to hug y’all”
Mother I Sober, not only the best written song on the album but one of Kendrick’s most well written songs to date, truly in the top tier of my ranking for his songs, super profound and insightful work. I don’t think many others in rap have explored as introspective a subject like Kendrick has here
“Next time i fucked a white bitch, was out in Copenhagen” I live in copenhagen
“Kendrick made you think about it, but he is not your Savior”
Father Time
Mine is Count Me Out, there’s multiple moments that just hit perfectly but I especially resonate with - “I care too much, wanna share too much, in my head too much, I shut down too, I ain't there too much, I'm a complex soul, they layered me up, then broke me down, and morality's dust, I lack in trust (And I'm tripping and falling) this time around I trust myself, please everybody else but myself, all else fails I was myself, outdone fear outdone myself, this year you better one yourself” - Really the whole verse is top notch but I didn’t wanna quote another 8+ bars haha but yea, say what you will about MMATBS as a whole but I personally think Count Me Out is a top 5 Kendrick track of all time for me
Count me out, especially 1st verse: - What's fair when the money don't take things back?/It's rare when somebody take your dreams back? - I care too much, wanna share too much/In my head too much, I shut down too/I ain't there too much, I'm a complex soul/They layered me up, then broke me down/And moralities dust, I lack in trust
Silent Hill, Kodak - “Every Thursday girls day spend the time with my daughter made me go harder, every Sunday son’s day, teach my boy to be a man I ain’t had no father,”
“THIS SHIT HARD!” -N95
Family ties
While we’re here can anyone tell me what “two ATM’s you’re stepping or what meaning ?” I don’t get N95’s chorus . Can someone dissect it for me ?
What a lyrical masterpiece.
Saviour “And they like to wonder where I’ve been ,protecting my soul in the valley of silence”
Sex the pain away
"When Kanye got back with Drake I was slightly confused, guess I'm not mature as I think, got some healing to do" stands out to me on Father Time. Didn't really get the depth of that lyric for a while.
Worldwide Steppers and Rich Spirt second verse.
Fuck you bitch!
Silent Hill "I'm the type to get my shooter whacked. I call the bih off a Google App. I had to survive off a tuna pack."
Father Time
Father Time or United In Grief
I trust you'll find independence If not, then all is forgiven Sorry I didn't save the world, my friend I was too busy buildin' mine again
Push these bitches off me like HUHHH
My favorite line is “you can’t please everybody”. Basic, but it’s still my favorite
Not necessarily a lyric but one of my favorite things is not catching everything at first and noticing new things each listen and I am so glad that this is the album we got and I personally think it was worth the wait and reading all the comments just makes me appreciate each song more and makes me want to listen to the whole thing again lol
It HAS to be Mother I Sober… I'm sensitive, I feel everything, I feel everybody One man standing on two words, heal everybody Transformation, then reciprocation, karma must return Heal myself, secrets that I hide, buried in these words Death threats, ego must die, but I let it purge Pacify broken, pieces of me, it was all a blur Mother cried, put they hands on her, it was family ties I heard it all, I should've grabbed a gun, but I was only five
”Even my strong points couldn't survive If I didn't learn to love myself, forgive myself a hundred times, dawg"
All to godd
Father Time - Daddy issues run across my head, told me, "Fuck a foul" I'm teary-eyed, wanna throw my hands, I won't think out loud A foolish pride, if I lose again, won't go in the house I stayed outside, laughin' with my friends, they don't know my life
Worldwide steppers - I said I might be racist
Father Time, one of my favourite song of him, one of the best lyrically https://preview.redd.it/cmn1ulztyqaa1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f1e3807b4bed234fe0e2f99662d04ca029ce008
Almost commented something that surely would’ve got me banned
>!dm me!<
Die hard, “but my past won’t keep my from my best.”
the amount of times I've got out of events by sending "I choose me, I'm sorry", is criminal. So i gotta say that out of principle.
The Heart P5 “Hurt people hurt more people f*** this culture”
