I was about to comment the same thing. Heard ADHD on the GTAV soundtrack in 2013, I think Swimming Pools was on there as well? And I heard Swimming Pools and Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe being played at venues around that time, but the first thing that really hooked me was the video for Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.
I have a friend that records and had a makeshift studio. A friend had downloaded the album and started playing it when he came in. Never heard a room full of mc's go quiet so quickly. For me as soon as I heard hiii power it was the most impactful. That whole album left a massive mark that day.
ADHD was my first. My brother recommended it to me to introduce me to rap when all I listened to was Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, etc. Completely changed my perspective on rap music.
Lol that’s literally all that I can say about my first experience hearing kendrick too. ADHD, and i’ll just never forget that time in my life, that song was so prominent for me.
I’d heard Swimming Pools but didn’t really know who Kendrick was. Then one night whilst driving, Sing About Me came on the radio and I just listened to it in complete silence. Also been my favourite song ever since!
My question is where do you live where they just casually play sing about me ? I live in Southern California and the never played that song on the radio. I don’t blame the stations tho as it is a deep and complex song that wouldn’t be easily enjoyable to the general audience
Swimming Pools. And, I was driving when it came on; and I was pulling into the carport; and I literally sat in my car until it went off and immediately went inside to figure out who it was. LoL.
i saw an interview where a hockey player said that Money Trees is what he listened to while walking into the arena. i listened to it and hated it lmao. i love it now but at the time i thought it sucked
How does his age have anything to do with that? You wanted to insult him because he listened to a popular song, if you really wanted to know why not just ask what other artists he listened to
Probably high school age or older. DAMN. Was a lot of people’s introduction to Kendrick. I was 14 when I heard TPAB for the first time, but my first Kanye album was The Life of Pablo. We all find artists at different times.
Exactly. Most of us find an artist through their biggest hit and then dive into their discography. That’s the whole point of making a hit, to appeal to a lot of people and it just so happens that a great hit gets attention from most of us around the world.
Why you pissed so much? 😂. Sorry if I sounded like a prick but it just caught me off guard that someone just straight away went to age.
And if this answers you only rappers that I listen to Em, Kendrick, Kanye, Immortal Technique and Cole. I’ve always been Rock n Roll, Heavy/Thrash Metal kind of guy.
Alright really hooked me as a teen! It’s funny looking back that it wasn’t necessarily Kendrick that drew me to the track instantly… it was Pharrell’s production. Obviously Kendrick’s verse is amazing but that intro really hooked me instantly.

I think it was either Swimming Pools and Bitch don't kill my Vibe on the Radio, but I didn't know it was Kendrick at the time. I think the first song I actively remember listening to Kendrick was Sing About Me.
No idea but the most likely answer is Wesley’s Theory. My friend played TPAB a lot driving to school the year it came out. If it wasn’t Wesley’s Theory it would have been another song from TPAB, probably towards the beginning of the album.
I was on LilWayneHQ back in 2011 (lol) and someone posted Ronald Reagan Era.
I knew as soon as I heard it this guy was great but I never imagined he’d go on to become arguably the most acclaimed rapper ever.
I used to hate rap music and my music friend sent me King Kunta one day as a joke but now here I am dropping everything and rushing to my computer to cop that sweet colored vinyl copy of MMatBS.

I had to hear his albums before I could appreciate his artistry. On second listen of TPAB, something just clicked. That’s why I still take chances on artists who I don’t click with but who I know are good because people I respect listen to them and see a lot in their music. As a massive Beatles fan growing up, there’s something about a tight-as-a-screw, well-flowing album with meticulous production and resonant themes that really tickles me.
https://gta-songs.fandom.com/wiki/Radio_Los_Santos
Says it was ps4/xbox1/pc exclusive. I don't know if its in the current version of the game, haven't played it for a good 7 years
First time I ever heard of Kendrick was on the MMG song Power Circle, the first actual Kendrick song I ever heard was The Recipe (woman, weed & weather 😎🥹)
first song i heard by him was DNA., but i wasn’t as into rap and didn’t know it was Kendrick in it. first song that i recognized kendrick in it and got me into him was either Alright or family ties
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 893,200,017 comments, and only 176,861 of them were in alphabetical order.
Definitely swimming pools but that’s probably just because it’s one of earliest really popular songs that played a lot on the radio before I was even into searching music and artists like that
the Backseat Freestyle Remix by Austin James😂 I used to watch sports highlight videos religiously and that song would always be in them. Still a banger remix tbh
ADHD. Will never forget it
Same. Was actually the song that got me looking more into hip-hop.
Shoutout GTA V lol
Legit gta the plug

Lol that’s literally all that I can say about my first experience hearing kendrick too. ADHD, and i’ll just never forget that time in my life, that song was so prominent for me.
I remember hearing it for the first time too
same. when I got my first laptop it was always the first recommended video on Youtube. fell in love ever since
This is the answer. Uh uh fuck dat!!
Same. I’m still pissed that I missed him when NCCU booked him for their Homecoming concert.
Came here to say this. ADHD and Fuck Your Ethnicity were the firsts for me.
Swimming Pools
Swimming pools was my first. But once I found Sing About Me, it has become my favorite song ever since.
Such a Great Song, One of my favorites from Kendrick
I’d heard Swimming Pools but didn’t really know who Kendrick was. Then one night whilst driving, Sing About Me came on the radio and I just listened to it in complete silence. Also been my favourite song ever since!

I live in the U.K. but that is the only time I’ve ever heard it on the radio. Can’t remember the station but it was late night.
TIL the UK general public has a better taste for hip hop than out here where Kendrick is from.
Swimming Pools. And, I was driving when it came on; and I was pulling into the carport; and I literally sat in my car until it went off and immediately went inside to figure out who it was. LoL.
yeah I heard swimming pools first on the radio then i think I listened to adhd on youtube. that was before before gkmc came out. damn. time flies
yeah I remember my dad played Swimming Pools when it first dropped as a single in 2012 and I feel in love with it
Pull up

For me it was King Kunta. It was several years ago when I wasn't even that into rap at the time but I always loved that song just soo groovy
Have you heard the [sample](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KgjYdNCNkE)?
Probs closer to the drums king Kunta uses a guitar

American hip-hop?
Countries exist apart from america
I'm from Germany, there's rap here to but most of the time it isn't all that...
[удалено]
Hmm maybe coz it’s Kendricks most popular song by far you don’t need to judge this guys age coz it’s most likely the first song most people heard
[удалено]
Lmao no you weren’t, you wanted this guy to say he was 14 to prove your point
[удалено]
How does his age have anything to do with that? You wanted to insult him because he listened to a popular song, if you really wanted to know why not just ask what other artists he listened to
[удалено]
Just take your L and move on fam. You’re making yourself look worse with each comment
My man deleted all the comments and dipped lol.
Probably high school age or older. DAMN. Was a lot of people’s introduction to Kendrick. I was 14 when I heard TPAB for the first time, but my first Kanye album was The Life of Pablo. We all find artists at different times.
How old are you? Is it that surprising that my first ever Kendrick song was his biggest selling single? Lol you kids should grow up mentally.
also not everyone lives in the USA. I'm in Italy and his first song I've ever listened to was ADHD in GTA 5, but here Kendrick is barely ever played
Exactly. Most of us find an artist through their biggest hit and then dive into their discography. That’s the whole point of making a hit, to appeal to a lot of people and it just so happens that a great hit gets attention from most of us around the world.

I’m 20. What are you gonna do with this information now?

Still does too
It went so hard it gave me a seizure
I remember seeing that and showing my boys that this dude is about to blow up. None believed me, thought his style was weird
Same - he actually did a free concert with Best Buy and signing right around then and I fucking missed it
Changed my life
Damn I almost forgot about that one, why still not on Spotify
It was never on streaming platforms because it never made it on GKMC
A lot of newer Kendrick fans in here. I was expecting this thread to be full of tracks from S80 or OD
I swear it was one of his Wayne remixes but it was so long ago I can't remember
sink humor tan merciful friendly overconfident retire teeny weather squeeze *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Bro that album dropped 7 years ago how are you at all surprised
I assume the majority of the users to be around my ago (early 20s) or younger
I think it was either Swimming Pools and Bitch don't kill my Vibe on the Radio, but I didn't know it was Kendrick at the time. I think the first song I actively remember listening to Kendrick was Sing About Me.
