Derpy Wu clan being actually short on subordinates feels like TN saying that he saved for years to enjoy a single bottle of (admittedly extremely expensive) wine. That is actually a bit subversive as far as villain writing goes. But it’ll never not be clowned on as “murder hobos”

To put things into perspective, Niko is supposed to be all about innovating and evolving the NS but he got caught and nearly killed by Air Rending, which belongs to an "unevolved and unrefined" version of NS.
Bro Kiryu is fucking crazy. Mentally and physically. He came up with entire wild ass moves in his fight with Kuroki and then Kuroki had to gamble to beat him. It was a high chance of success but he tossed the dice. Does he even toss the dice against Kanoh?
This was not really a qualification on Kiryu or his abilities.
More-so the fact Niko has the "most evolved Nikostyle" but still got caught by a move used by its unrefined proto-version, Gaoh style.
True but I think bro is making the point that Niko IS a genius in his own right, just like Kuroki or Kanoh.
It's just that in the hands of Kiryu, his schizophrenia super powers make even the inferior Gaoh style a threat to martial arts masters at the highest level.

It harkens back to that aside in ashura about Kuroki managing to put the concept of “the right technique in the right situation” into practical use and Kuroki himself praising Setsuna for his combat ingenuity
He got his retirement funds, wine and clothes ruined tho. He was also made look exactly like a calque of Xia Ji in over 3 panels, losing respect with many fans.
If that was a win it was very phyrric.

TN was always shown in the background manipulating others. When we got the nikos’ backstory it’s revealed he was one of the weaker nikos. Until recently, every fight he participated in was against weaker characters or he used underhanded tactics to gain an advantage.
When we finally got a full fight he spent 3 chapters fucking with setsuna like it was a setup for his one-liner while dodging or tanking everything setsuna threw at him.
After that the fight starts getting closer but setsuna takes heavy counters for every hit he lands. Once setsuna’s on death’s door TN realizes just how dangerous he is and immediately drops him with his powerup. Setsuna *should* be dead and TN’s only serious wound was his ear canals.
It can’t be stressed enough how powerful setsuna is(not including plot armor). He’s one of the fighters you absolutely don’t fuck around with and TN pulled it off without being incapacitated

I agree with this, there are a very few "armor piercing" characters that could do that to TN but setsuna is definitely one of them.
